    Reuben lunch special
    Jil G.

I called in and ordered to go. The girl on the phone was very sweet! I ordered Ruben sandwich because it was the lunch special of the day and it did not disappoint. It was served on delicious rye bread and was packed with meat! I could only finish half. The potato salad was delicious too! I added the salt and pepper. The have really cleaned the inside of this bar up. They don't allow smoking inside which is nice because I usually stop in during work and don't like smelling like cigarettes. Definitely check this place out if you're in south Tampa. It seems like a fun neighborhood bar and they have a bunch of drink specials too. Lunch specials are $8 everyday. Grab you Sammie! The man who makes them makes them with a lot of love!

I've rode by here & thought to check it out just never got around to it until today... I made time since I was in the area. When I saw they had food I was like yessss, I'm going! Gina greeted me with a warm down home smile, making me feel comfy immediately. I ordered the southwest turkey sandwich...absolutely divine!! The turkey is plenty & everything tasted fresh & delicious! Prices are still reasonable & it definitely feels like a locals gem... I will definitely return & they stay open late. Only con is: there's a slight smell in the place just smells like old building & pipes. Ask for Gina when you go!!

Ruben sandwich and small pitcher if beer.

So, this is my third visit to Tappers. I found it when looking for hole in wall bars. My main issue with place is smoking in there as it just permeates your clothes. The food not bad, the small grill area is behind bar. But, the highlight would be the cheap beer. A small pitcher is only $5.00, there is only 4 varieties on tap. But this bar is a straight throw back to the standard american dive bar. So, if you don't mind smelling of a cigarette and enjoy cheap American beer. This is the place for you.

Simple dive bar with locals. Smoking is allowed indoors. They seem to have a nice selection of foreign and domestic beers and a full bar. The service is good and a couple of cute girls.

In the style of Brett N, why 5 stars? Because 1967. --- --- --- Much like the fictitious TV Cheers bar, every neighborhood has a local watering hole where everyone knows each other. For folks from the SOG, Bayshore Heights, Palma Ceia and Virginia Park areas, this is that place. This was the first bar I visited on my own accord, and first establishment in which I legally threw back some suds. As if that isn't nostalgic enough, the place was jam-packed full of friends and associates from my high school days, including the bar tenders. It was a fun time back, and a great place to catch up with the local gossip. That's how we used to do before the days of Facebook. I haven't lived in the SOG since 2004, but I still get down there from time-to-time, and when I do I think about the Tapper Pub. Honestly, I never stop by, but that changed last Saturday. I rolled in with La Chica, and I was surprised, but happy, to see it looked exactly as I remembered. Really, the only thing that changed was the prices on sandwiches. That is how a true Tampa dive bar stays relevant for 40 years.

    Viva, the classic pub!

Your name alone brings a smile on my face…read more I had a month where I would just end up spawning here. No rhyme or reason but with I'm not upset about it, I just happened to stumble through the door. But name a better place to do so at? At late hours, yeah, you can't buddy. First go around here really rocked my world. Almost scared me. You are telling me I can get a chicken corndon blue sandwhich as well as a miller highlife and deep fried tots? Ok yeah sure let's do it. But that's not the end. The menu is extensive, the bag is deep and filled with tricks. Daily specials, yup. Dessert, yup. Full bar, yup. It's a fun spot. Inside/outside seating. Green iguana next door. Yeah a dangerous duo. Kobe and Shaq vibes. Vintage Bron and D-wade. Give it a go. Get off that Water St. pedestal you are on. Visit a real dive bar and live your life.

This location isn't as swamped as the St Petersburg location. There was plenty of parking and lots of room to sit down. We chose to sit at the bar. Dave W ordered a fruity mocktail (Bartender's choice), and I ordered a fruity cocktail (Bartender's choice). The drink I got was 'Sex On The Beach' ($3.25). The cocktail was tasty with a slight kick. Later I ordered another and told her to make it a double ($5.25). The second drink had a big kick! I ordered the Shrimp Dinner ($14.77) choosing to have the shrimp grilled and it came with broccoli and yellow rice. I substituted fries for the rice. Dead Bob's fries are special. The shrimp didn't look grilled to me. That cost them a star. Other than that I have no complaints about the service or atmosphere.

I've never had it ever before but fell absolutley in love with it. The lemon truffle vinaigrette over arugula is just to die for. I don't bother ordering anything else when I'm at Mad Dogs. The service is always great and a nicer pub atmosphere. A great place to meet and dine, watch a soccer game, or have brunch.

Especially when restaurants want us to pay their server's salaries with 20+ percentage tips. So I'll start with the positives... I was incredibly impressed with the inside of this restaurant. The outside... Not so impressive. The neighborhood... Not so impressive. I wasn't expecting a really nice restaurant... But then the doors opened. It's amazingly beautiful inside. If you are planning an event or want to go on a very nice date night... I recommend this place. Now the in-between part of the review. The food was good... With a few exceptions. My mother-in-law got the salmon... It looked great. One of my sister-in-law's ordered the steak and fries. She ordered it medium... It was definitely medium rare if not more on the rare side. That's the way I like a steak... But, definitely not the way she ordered it. She said it was good. My other sister-in-law ordered the fish and chips... Quite good. Definitely the star of the show so far. My wife ordered a healthy chicken dish... not worthy of commentary. My son ordered the kids cheeseburger... He said it was the best cheeseburger he's ever had. And finally the disappointing entrée... Mine. I ordered the shepherds pie. I was pretty excited... I don't think I've ever had a lamb shepherds pie. However, I still don't think I have!!! I'm not sure there was any lamb in my lamb shepherds pie. Did it taste good... Yeah. In one bite I noticed something that resembled meat. In EVERY OTHER BITE... there was nothing. I was expecting a lot of mashed potatoes... It's shepherds pie after all. I was expecting the vegetables... I got some. But, where was the meat? Quite disappointing. Summary: Great looking restaurant with overall pretty good food. Pricing wasn't too bad. Entrées were reasonably priced... But, if you use my shepherds pie as an example... I don't really know what I paid for??? The restaurant does nickel and dime you for everything! The hummus appetizer came with a few pieces of pita and a lot of hummus. Obviously, you need more pita. They charge you for it. A Coke is $4.75. Wow! We were celebrating and brought a small round cake. We got charged a cake cutting fee ($15) in lieu of getting a free dessert. The receipt looked like a receipt from CVS... It just went on forever with every nickel and dime fee they added. So would I recommend the place... I guess so. Not a strong recommendation. But, a surprisingly nice looking restaurant with decent food. Just don't get the shepherds pie.
