I decided that since I can't find a modern quartz operated battery clock with a similar face that is 12+ wide in diameter, it was well worth saving despite a family member who advised to toss it into the garbage can. One of my friends at work recommended the Northville Watch and Clock Shop. This business is located in a vintage house that has been converted into a business that does first-rate repairs on any type of clock or watch, especially cuckoo clocks from Germany. With that being said, the service that is provided here is top-notch, and super fast. I was thinking it might take a few months to repair my beloved wall clock, but it was done within a week, complete with a new movement installed. Likewise, all of the repairs done here come with a complete one-year warranty. The best part, the clock keeps perfect time like it did when I first bought it back in 1991.

Why couldn't she have just told me to wait? We are on our way back from lunch and I called to ask if she could please give us 5 extra minutes (ETA was 3:05) to pick up. Her response? "No, we close at 3 sharp. Are you going to be able to get here in time?" FYI -not great service, guys. I'm in the market for a grandfather clock and would have loved to support a local business. Clearly, I won't be supporting this one.

Here's my story: I'm a watch collector with a good working knowledge of watches and movements. My collection contains all of what you would expect from Patek to Rolex, Tudor to Seiko. I know watches. My immigrant father passed away in January and I inherited the watch he came to America wearing. A 1969 Seiko of no value to anyone but me. It was running poorly, but running none-the-less. I wanted to have the movement overhauled and serviced to get the watch working to the best of the ability of its movement. I totally understand and specs of the movement and how well it's capable of functioning when new. I didn't expect it to reach those numbers. But I DID expect that it would run without stopping while wearing it and that it would hit reasonable amplitude numbers. My expectation is that this "watchmaker" would call me when the movement was disassembled for cleaning and tell me the parts that needed replacing. I got no such service. I never saw or spoke to the "watchmaker". I only spoke to his gen-Z son. He quoted me three-four weeks for a complete overhaul at $300. I gladly left the watch with him. After no call regarding condition of the movement or necessary replacement parts, I reached out and was told they needed another two weeks. I started getting a weird feeling that this is not a qualified "watchmaker". I did my research and found some articles that highlighted he was a Lebanese immigrant that learned his trade in his family's shop in the old country. I thought, well - maybe real world experience is better than schooling. I gave them the extra time. Still had to reach out when that time was up and magically "he just wrapped it up - but it needs a few days on our winder". Ok - I just want it done well, take your time. I get a call a week later and I'm told to come pick it up. Upon arrival I asked to have the watch placed on the timegrapher and I asked for the results. They did this and informed me that the amplitude was too low. I would have to leave it for the "watchmaker" for another week. I sighed and said "ok, I just want it done to the best of your ability and functioning to the best of its ability. It's my dead father's watch and the only thing I have to remember and by other than photographs. Please treat it like the heirloom it is." They agreed. After two weeks of no contact I had to reach out. Once again it was "finished" just needed a few days on the winder. At this point, I started to realize the reviews for this place were suspect. They would keep watches for a very long time and never communicate with their clients. A review stated they didn't log any of the work that was done or provide a synopsis of the service. Not a normal industry practice for Watchmakers. Legitimate Watchmakers will provide you with a printed serve description with warranty. When I told them I wanted this included, they agreed. What I got was a handwritten piece of paper that stated "complete overhaul, One year warranty". Completely unprofessional. When I went to pick it up, I was informed that the watch was running well but would only wind in one direction. This is a by directional rotor, watch. The fact that they gave me a watch back that only worked when rotating in one direction is absolutely a sign that the "watchmaker" is not real or not a qualified technician. Imagine going to pick your car up from a mechanic and you are told " You can only turn left, but it works otherwise". This is essentially what I was told. After some research, I realize that the rotor is jammed now. It was not jammed when I gave it them. Also, it's obvious that the low amplitude is a result of a worn out main spring. This should be replaced and they should have told me it was necessary. Long story short, this is not a qualified "watchmaker". This place is an absolute joke run by young slacker punks. I will be including photographs of my communication with them. They are not responsive and basically robbed me.

This is the worst repair service ever. I paid $350 in advance ( don't!) to have a pocket watch…read morerepaired. after 2 years received it back as repaired but it was not. The case hadn't been opened showing all the grease and dirt still present. Took it back, under 1 year warranty, and again it was presented as repaired but still doesn't run. The "new crystal" was a piece of plastic that fell out. Over 4 years later my vintage pocket watch still doesn't run and cannot even be worn as a pendant.

He replaced them, as well as the batteries. When it came time to pay, he told me the amount and gave me a hand written invoice showing that same amount. I gave him my credit card, he gave me another receipt from the transaction, and I left. When I got in the car, I noticed that the amount on the receipt was about $4 more than what he told me, so I went back in to find out what happened. He proceeded to flip around a sign that said there is now a 4% processing fee due to inflation and said "Oops I forgot to turn the sign around." I generally like to support small businesses, but this guy is a liar, not to mention his store reeks of cigarette smoke. I will never return to this store again.

They were wonderful and didn't pressure me at all. They even talked me down in size because they felt the stone I nearly went with, was too big and, blocked too much of the few of the stones in the band. When a jeweler talks you into spending less money at their shop, you know that you've found the right jeweler. In the end, they were right and my ring looks absolutely beautiful. I get compliments all the time. They also can repair anything and helped me with a few necklaces and a bracelet.

The saleswoman there denigrated the ring, indicating that we'd paid too much. She then offered to "recreate" the jeweler's design for half the price. I explained that I wasn't interested in doing so, but that I did want to see the Tacori piece that I'd emailed about. The salesperson indicated that the price as I wanted it was 5.5k, doing so with a tone that made clear she didn't think we could afford it (we were casually dressed on a Saturday morning). I told her that we were going to go back to Orin's before making a final decision, as the Mark Schneider piece needed to be resized anyway. The salesperson at Artisans scoffed at the jewelry store, scoffed at the city and indicated that I would be back for sure. By this time my fiancé and mother, who was along for the ride, had had enough of the entire experience. I assured them that they'd receive a completely different level of customer service at Orin's and from Jennifer specifically. We continued to Northville and found the perfect ring, again without any attempt to make a sale. In fact, we decided to add a diamond to one of the rings and Jennifer suggested that I go with the smaller of the two options, as it would suit the ring better. In doing so, she suggested a diamond that was 600 dollars cheaper, but made clear to us what her priorities were (i.e., finding the right ring as opposed to making the most money). I don't often write reviews, but did so for both Artisans and Orin's. The experience at the former was not one that I appreciated, while the experience at the latter was one that I genuinely enjoyed. I would absolutely recommend Orin's to anyone looking for engagement/wedding jewelry. Ask for Jennifer.

The screen began shaking, scrambling, and becoming unusable almost immediately after I left the store. The phone's back cover was also loose. I returned more than once, but the problem continued. I had been told there was "no warranty," but I was never told before paying that the replacement screen might work only intermittently. When I complained, I was told something along the lines ofllllthat sometimes these screens work and sometimes they do not. A no-warranty repair is not the same as paying $212 for a screen that appears defective immediately. Had the risk been clearly disclosed beforehand, I would not have authorized the repair. If the screen is compatible with my phone, the expectation if for it to operate correctly at least for 3 - 6 months. Leaving the store and before getting into my car and not working, is extremely disappointing especially after spending over 200.00.
