I don't always seek out Mexican food when I'm in Europe, but there's something irresistible about a taco shop that looks legit and has very high ratings on Yelp. So we gave it a shot, and we were not disappointed.
My wife called to reserve a table at 7 PM on a Saturday, and the hostess almost laughed at her for worrying that we couldn't get a table at that hour (because the locals eat so late). Sure enough, when we showed up at 7, all of the tables were taken except the one we'd reserved. Most of the other tables were taken by American tourists like us just trying to get their taco fix.
Having lived in Mexico as a kid, I have a special place in my heart for a place that only sells tacos (you can't get a burrito or a fajita at Taquerias Tamarindo), and there isn't a bean or rice for miles around (not that I wouldn't like some). So they've staked their claim on tacos, and boy do they deliver. There are a bunch of different varieties, and I tried the campechana and the barbacoa, along with a choriqueso for good measure. Everything was amazing. I thought the choriqueso would just be melted cheese and chorizo in a bowl, but it was in a tortilla, kind of like a meaty quesadilla. For the tacos, there are three salsa options: one red, one green, and one extremely hot. They're all worth a try (and the extremely hot one isn't going to burn you).
We also had some guacamole and chips to start, some aguas frescas to drink, and everything was great. There was one lone server on duty at that hour (the upstairs dining room opens at 9 PM), and he was friendly and helpful. The prices are very affordable. read more
