I recently heard about this place and was curious to try it tonight. Wow! Blown away! I had the chips and salsa which was spicy, but delicious. Tables were dirty. Beans were cold and flavorless. They are very stingy with their chip baskets, they barely give you any. Service was below average. Ambiance is depressing. The sun BEAMS straight into the restaurant and they are too cheap to place drapes or shades to stop the sun from straining your eyes. Their prices are ridiculously higher than advertised and food is small portioned and mediocre. Oh and to top it off, they charge you extra for paying with any credit card, and they won't disclose that until you see extra charges on your receipt. Will never go back again! Another great experience at Taqueria Chápala, I normally come here on Sundays after church and have the mojarrita frita so delicious! I found a new trick and now I order it with bread instead of tortillas. I'm South American so tortillas are not my favorite, but their bread is toasted with butter and tastes SO good! The service is also great, the waiter staff is attentive, they're bi-lingual and your food comes out fast. I like the art in the tables and chairs, there is enough space probably for about 50 people sitting. This time we tried the desserts, the caramel flan was perfection and the churros, oh the churros...they fry them right up when you order them and they taste like heaven. Babe and I were craving Mexican food and saw this place close by that we had never visited. It's 10/10. The food is so authentic, and I love the decor. It feels like I'm in Mexico, but here in Austin and I love it! I always love the feeling like I'm out of the country when enjoying food! Babe always loves to get a Michelada, and it was delicious. We shared the mini tacos with beans and rice--so good. This will be my new spot, and it's near my place. Service was good, our server kept checking on us and management did come by to see how we were enjoying the food which is always a plus for me. read more

Nice family restaurant attached to a gas station While we decided what order, we got some chips and salsa. Both were pretty good. Salsa was just spicy enough to not burn your ass but keep you wanting more. Chips were fresh and crunchy. Ordered the mojarra frita (fried perch) and man, it was good. Served with crispy fires and salad. Done right. Wife got the sope which was huge and she enjoyed. First impression was great: clean, good service and good food. Normally, I am impressed with the speedy service and kind hospitality that Chapala offers. However, I stopped in today for a quick carne con queso and guac for a snack and received this abomination. Mind you, this had a $5 price tag and was without carne. Highly disappointed. read more

Delicious food! The service was quick and the food was yummy. It is a casual place next to a gas station. I love the art on the chairs and tables! The machacado was flavorful and soft with a decent amount of meat. I would prefer larger pieces of meat but definitely satisfied my craving for machacado! The Asada taco was very good! The meat was salty and seasoned well and there was a good portion of onion and cilantro. The queso was thick and creamy but needed a bit more flavor. I loved how the corn tortillas on the mini tacos were lightly fried and the al pastor and campechano was very flavorful. The green salsa for the table was creamy, tasty, and lightly spicy. read more

It's connected to a gas station but believe me it's levels above that. The Chilango torta is the best I've had in my life. I've been to Mexico City and lived in California where the food is authentic and this place is the really deal. The huaraches with pollo was amazing and so was the Chile relleno. They have some Tex Mex there too because I guess they have too. These ppl are from Jalisco Mexico so they know what they're doing. It was only $30 for a chile relleno plate and the torta and drinks and the service is so fast. Chuys has nothing on this place. read more

I want to give this restaurant the best rating possible. The food is exceptionally good, and as a mexicana, I have tried a lot of mom and pop to high end Mexican food to compare to our own home cooking. Everything is just perfect, from the bright colorful and clean environment, to the comfortable temperature, to the very delightful staff. We have to eat there every time we go to Buda. The food is very flavorful, not too spicy unless you want it to be, and absolutely not greasy. Add to that, excellent service, like bringing lemons for ice tea without us asking, makes this little place a gem!! read more

Delicious homestyle Mexican food. I had a egg and cheese omelette stuff with pico de gallo and bacon. On top of the omelette or two different types of delicious cheese, yellow and white cheese. Prices are reasonable three of us ate for just under 20 dollars. read more
