My friend & I were craving some true Mexican food in this white-scale state. Thankfully, the drive to CULTURED-LAND wasn't too far from our hotel. When we arrived, the place was splashed in banana yellow paint, speckled with tangerine and several other blunt colors. Yet, we never suffocated in the color or the decor, we felt welcomed, as patterned banners wistfully hung from the ceiling across the shop. A mix of Spanish and radio pop music filled the atmosphere, and there was a large menu to order from. The orders came out quick, within 15 minutes, and the man that took our order was very charismatic and warmly to talk to. I got the Birria Tacos, which only came with steak, and 3 tacos per order. It came paired with lime slices, a sauce cup of green salsa, and a beef broth soup, with cilantro on top. The taco had a crunchy shell, yet it gave very easily, and the beef was shredded, soft, and tasted salty and savory. The onions, cilantro and green salsa added sweet and sourness, while the tasty lime grounded the entire thing. I also got two green salsa tamales, which were pretty neutral, but it tasted slightly sweet, and the green salsa inside added a very subtle sweet and sour flavor as well, and the talames overall complimented the tacos by acting as a ground zero. This made me enjoy the flavor-bomb of tacos even more, and vice versa. Highly recommend trying out this place. read more

Taqueria Cinco is the truth. From the manager addressing his customers by name or with a kind "mi amigo!" (and making sure to remember your name for the next time you come around), to the aguas frescas made with real fruit instead of syrup from a mixer, to a huge menu that even includes barbacoa and duck--this place delivers. From the many things I've ordered, none has ever let me down. I often end up going for seconds or grabbing an agua fresca for the road. The prices are steeper than I'd expect ($3.50 a taco), but when its 2025, there's a drought of quality Mexican food--and I'm already stopping by the liquor store--why wouldn't I indulge? We ordered some birria tacos & chicken abobada, carne asada & Al pastor tacos. The birria tacos were very good. The chicken adobada blew me away. Usually chicken tacos do not impress me, but the flavoring on this one was good. The Al pastor & carne were just ok, not as flavorful as I would have liked. Oof. I was looking forward to authentic taqueria fare but didn't get it. I ordered four tacos. Two pastor and two lengua. The pastor was good, and unless they are tending a trompa and shaving the meat off it'll only be seasoned pork and pineapple. So. It was good Now the lengua was terrible. The meat tasted off but the worst part was that it wasn't tender and they didn't peel back the outer layer! It was chewy gristle and taste buds. It's supposed to be tender and taste like slow roasted beef... Like pot roast but this was gross. I ordered a side of beans and rice. The rice was just ok, with overdone 50lb bag rice and frozen peas and carrots mixed in. Not terrible but nothing special. The beans were just black beans and the juices from the can wrmed through. No salt. No flavor. My wife got nachos with carnitas. The carnitas were just OK. Not crispy, not fried in the rendered fat like a GOOD carnitas. We won't go back and pay $4 per taco for this. Definitely one of the best Mexican establishments around this area, their dishes are authentic regional rather than your typical Mexican American variants. During covid its difficult to find a sit down restaurant so this was a big surprise. The burrito with rice and black beans and pork carnitas was outstanding as was the beef enchiladas, rice and salad. Who doesn't like elote which was the perfect accompaniment to a wonderful meal that celebrated the authentic flavors of Mexico. As a regular and having tried most of the menu by now, I am more than happy to give this business 5 very well deserved the stars. I was in Groton for work for about five weeks and was lucky enough to find this place at the beginning of my time there. The food is some of the best authentic Mexican cuisine. I've had in a long time. I used to live in Mexico and this place took me right back. The tacos, tortas, enchiladas, pozole, and elote were my favorites but I never had anything from there menu that I didn't like. The service is top notch. They make you feel like family from the moment you walk in the door. I was impressed with how they always remembered me and seemed genuinely happy to see me and serve me. I like Chipotle for a lot of different reasons. The food is fresh, hot & tasty. But I also totally understand the draw of these authentic taquerias. I have realized I am just not a big fan of them. The meat generally has been way cooked ahead & it's always really dry. They generally don't use the best cuts of meat also so often you get pieces with tendon that are chewy. None of the ingredients are ever hot & fresh either. Everything is lukewarm. The tortillas here were homemade which was nice. The red salsa was flavorless though. All you could taste were tomatoes. No garlic, onions, cilantro, etc. It also did not look homemade either. It was not the flavorful fresh pico de Gallo they normally serve with street tacos. The guacamole was also boring. It was creamy but completely bland. It had no flavor. I could not taste any garlic, cilantro, onion. The GREEN salsa they give you with the tacos was GOOD. I enjoyed that. I had 3 small street tacos @&3/each, a VERY SMALL side of chips, guacamole & salsa (what they put condiments in for your sandwiches) & a Jarritos drink. It was $15- which I thought was pretty pricey for the small amount of food. Overall, I am not going to this tacqueria or any others unless customers rave about them. invariably I am just always really unhappy with the taste & quality of the food. read more
