I visited this place years ago, and while they've updated the menu, there are still great choices available. I ordered three tacos: shrimp, fish, and pork belly. The shrimp and fish were good and tasted as expected. The pork belly featured a long piece of meat and was well-seasoned--definitely not what I anticipated, but very delicious. I got burritos, quesadillas, and taquitos. The burritos were super massive, filled with meat, rice, and refried beans. The jerk chicken was really flavorful in the burrito. Was not a fan of the lettuce and refried beans in the burrito. The quesadilla was also alright, cheesy and served with sour cream and salsa. The taquito were probably the best thing I had there. Unfortunately, this was not "it". Our chicken tacos came out warm, which was a bit concerning to start. We also ordered a chicken quesadilla which had no flavor to it, and the worst part was it was obviously canned chicken- watery, pale color, no seasoning, overly shredded. We had been here before the pandemic and really enjoyed it. We finally had a chance to go back and was looking forward to it. First thing we noticed...no handicap access. Nor handicapped parking spots. As they are in a strip mall, if wouldn't be their fault entirely. But it made things a little difficult. I wanted to order a plate of two enchiladas to split with my wife, but when I asked for one to be beef and the other chicken, the young woman said they had to be the same thing. Stil don't understand why. I ordered a beef burrito and a chicken burrito (more expensive) that came with rice and beans. What we didn't know is that the rice and beans were not side dishes, they were blended in the burritos. On top of that, they had no flavor at all, no sauces other than some side sour cream. The plastic utensils they gave us had a hard time cutting into the burrito sandwiches. And they were tasteless and we didn't finish them. We won't be going back there. read more

Was very excited to try this place as I've driven by a few times. Atmosphere is cute but very basic. Service is adequate but zero frills. Sodas were refrigerated but warm. I ordered the chicken, steak and shrimp tacos. Easily the most bland tacos I have ever had. Soggy and no flavor. The salsa was basic, the chicken and steak had zero seasoning and were watery, making the flour shell soggy and frankly inedible. The shrimp taco was ok, but only had 4 small shrimp. I didn't even end up finishing my tacos. The other 2 people in my party were equally unimpressed. Maybe it was just us though, spoiled by the West Coast taco scene. read more

So when you are out and about along the upper shoreline in Ct before the casinos you will find this little gem on the niantic / east Lyme line. They have a vast variety of food from enchiladas , burritos , wings , and of course tacos Tacos can be had on soft flour / corn hard corn shells. Have all the regulars a few specials that are only served on soft flour tortillas. Chips very tasty as was the salsa the guacamole lacked spice and taste the cheese quessso was delicious forgive the spelling lol . Pork belly taco more like bacon crunchy beef was also lacking spice the quesadilla was delicious the burrito lacked spice as well. Overall a pleasant little place to stop can eat in or outside not far from great neck state park. Is a good attempt but if you want traditional and more flavor go south to new haven the wharf to taco truck row as you will not be disappointed read more

Driving by the road hubby spotted this cute little restaurant. Pretty decent size menu, fairly quick order but it seems like they are a bit short handed for the amount of foot traffic. Food was great, perfect size, temperature, flavor. Not a whole lot of sitting available, but we didn't mind sharing out indoor table, there are some outdoor sitting as well. In Niantic today book shopping and we needed some lunch. I'm not normally a huge taco fan, but this place came highly recommended and all the teens wanted to go. It's a small little place with bright cheerful decorations inside. Quite a bit of outdoor seating with just a few tables inside, seems to be a lot of pick up and go here. We chose to eat inside where it was quiet. Our food was delivered all wrapped up like we were leaving with it, but I guess that's just how it's done here. After unwrapping and adjusting condiments, I took my first bite, not expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this taco was, delicious and I had a different meat in the 2nd taco, also delicious. My son had a beef burrito and he enjoyed it very much. Mixed experience today at East Coast Taco. The main dishes we had - tacos and quesadillas - plus the friendly staff would have gotten 4 stars. But there has to be a one star reduction (at least) for the ride and beans that come with the platters. All agreed they were among the worst versions we've had - just so mushy and bland. It was really odd for a place that actually has some creative taco flavors and combinations. Think they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. The blackened shrimp tacos were my favorite - awesome flavor and just the right amount of spice. The pork belly tacos were tasty too, although they would more accurately be called bacon tacos (nothing to sneeze at, but when ordering pork belly I'd expect a nice meaty piece of pork). The taco shop is cool and has a replicated "authentic" looks and feel. I cant say that same for the food. Don't get me wrong, the food is good but its not authentic like you see more towards the west coast (im from NV). I had carnitas taco which seemed to be more of a pulled pork. The food was very good at a good price point. The menu had just the right amount of variety to where even with a larger group everyone could find something they would like. Ordered 4 beef tacos and a order of chicken nachos, all to go. Drove down to the beach to eat, we open the bag and find 4 tacos wrapped in foil which were delicious. Then we take out the aluminum container to eat our nachos and there is writing across the top in marker saying BAKE FOR 7-10 minutes @ 375..... shocked to find just a container full of corn chips shredded cheese and jalapeños just RAW, not melted and the chicken In a container of its own. Kind of disappointing when you don't have an oven in your car!!! Needles to say the nachos never were eaten and the dog ate the chicken that was supposed to go with them. When I'm craving some chips and salsa and a quesadilla, East Coast Taco definitely hits the mark. It is located in a tiny plaza next to the Book Barn and before coming upon downtown Niantic. While they have since reopened for inside (and outside) eating, I tend to do my order online and pickup since they are not far from where I live. Their app is very easy to use and it rarely takes longer than 20 minutes for takeout. Their chips have a delicious seasoning on them, and their salsa is made in-house. I always make sure to order a bigger container than truly is needed as it is THAT good! Their quesadillas are quite large as well, about the size of a small pizza. You can choose to get them spicy, and I promise it does deliver a kick! If you are in the mood for some quick Mexican, this spot is definitely one to try. read more

If you're looking for authentic Mexican tacos, this is *not* the place I'd recommend. Though (pre-pandemic), they had a huge list of tempting-sounding offerings, that was about the only good thing about this place. Though we were able to sample one of each of many different kinds of tacos (e.g., fish, shrimp, pork, beef, vegetarian options, etc.), what they all had in common was lackluster taste and a quality more similar to cafeteria food than a real tacqueria. The chips and guac and salsa combo was good, and the fact that you could get lots of toppings on the taco was a plus, but other than that, I was rather disappointed. For a real foodie, I'd say skip this place and look elsewhere for some true fuego. read more

Ok. I read several reviews that East Coast Taco's serves great food. Well, I am Mexican and I grew up learning from my mom the basics on how to make tacos using various meats. My first fish taco was Pacific red snapper with lemony crema sauce, fresh cabbage, and a spicy avocado sauce. With every bite, you can taste the fresh fish and the subtle fresh condiments; you can actually taste the fish. The cod fish taco at East Coast Taco was overwhelmed with condiments because the amount of fish was so small. I also ordered the carnitas taco, which had plenty of meat, but it had a strong cinnamon flavor. Authentic Mexican carnitas are cooked with garlic, fresh orange, onion, bay leaves, Mexican oregano, and a cinnamon stick, but the spices are well balanced to prevent overwhelming flavors. The sign outside read that East Coast Taco has been in business since 2006; absolutely congratulations. However, stick to the authentic Mexican recipes, and ask your staff to clean the floor (see pic). read more

I have been wanting to visit this place for a long time. We finally went on Friday for lunch. We were greeted outside by a very nice man who took our order. There is no service inside right now. We sat down at the picnic tables outside and was enjoying the beautiful weather when very shortly our food was brought to us. It was pipping hot and smelled heavenly. Talk about delicious ! Let's jump into here: 1. The staff was incredibly nice and funny. 2. The food was very reasonably priced. 3. Unlike other Mexican places, they know HOW to use spice and go easy on the salt.
