Amazing service -- celebrated a birthday here and they went above and beyond for the surprise birthday song singing. Overall, food is very good -- the fish tacos are AMAZING. It is quite a drive away from where I leave but hoping for my next Mohegan Sun concert so I have an excuse to stop by.

    Burrito and fajitas

My husband and I LOVE it here! The nachos are my go-to I could have them as a full dinner, even though my husband likes to share. He always orders the fajitas, which are fresh and packed with flavor. We've also tried the chorizo appetizer, and it's definitely a favorite. I've had the burritos before personally found them a bit lacking in flavor, but with so many great options on the menu, I'm always excited to try something new. The servers are always friendly, the music adds a great vibe, and we love sitting on the bar side it has beautiful wallpaper. Highly recommend!

Overall 4/5 Stars! Overview: Happy hour deals are good, the service is great, and I would definitely come back here! Nachos - Were definitely different from your typical nachos & for a good Happy Hour price ($6)! I personally really loved the nachos because of the smaller chips and the guac, shredded cheese, sour cream, and bean combination. It's a great eat while you're waiting for your meal! Chips & Guac - Was not mine, but my friends did devour & loved them! Chicken Chimichanga - Was LARGE and tasted absolutely delicious, however I did have to take most of it home. The Chimichanga was a lot less salty than previous chimichangas I've had and the amount it was fried was not over-the-top. I personally wasn't extremely fond of the sauce because it tasted quite cheesy, but if you enjoy cheese, it's definitely a great choice! Service - Was great! We were seated immediately and our waitress was very efficient without us feeling rushed.

First time visit to our local Mexican restaurant. Went for happy hour and then ordered dinner. The pork dinner was so tender didn't need the steak knife provided. So good husband wants to go back just so he can order it for his meal. His mole chicken with rice and beans was large. So full after we took a slice of flan to share at home. So glad this is just down the street from our new house. Going to become regulars.....

We stopped in for lunch and the food was simply delicious!! If you are looking for authentic Mexican food with complex flavors look no further. We had the chilis rellenos and the enchilada special and both were delicious. We met Martin the owner and we can see why his food is so good as she truly has a passion to bring authentic Mexican dishes to his restaurant. And the margaritas were perfect!!

I was excited to check out Zavala's new location because I remember them from when they were in downtown NL. The food was as good as I remember. My strawberry margarita was perfect! I could have drank so many more of those cuz they were smooth! Our server was nice and attentive. We tried the Mexico City Quesadilla, the Tuna Ceviche for apps and obviously chips and salsa. All of which were delicious. I had the carne asada tacos snd enjoyed them as well. I also liked that they put hot sauce in a tiny little squirt bottle on the side if you wanted to make your food a little more spicy. The spice level was mild which is what I like. Our server was nice and attentive...she even asked if we wanted our apps out first or all together with our meals. It's a pretty nice space with a bar and lounge on one side. Will definitely be back to try other items!

Mexican food is definitely one of my favorites, so I was very much looking forward to Zavala opening in town. I went at about 5:30 or so and was able to be seated right upon arrival, but it definitely got busier as we were eating. I did notice that there is a small bar area not in the dining room that I would love to sit at next visit as well! While the menu is not very extensive, there is something for everyone! The salsa and totopos is of course a must have. The salsa is quite flavorful, and it comes with a tiny bottle of hot sauce for those at your table (me) who like the extra kick of flavor. The Mexico City Quesadilla was also delicious and stuffed with cheese. We couldn't resist getting the tuna ceviche on the specials menu and it was outstanding! The guacamole on top was something I've never had with ceviche but it was the perfect addition. For my main meal I chose the fire grilled chicken tacos. The smoky flavor of the chicken was delicious, and I couldn't eat them fast enough! While I had no room for dessert on this trip, I absolutely had room for margaritas. I tried the Original Margarita and the Fresh Margarita. The original was great, but the fresh will definitely be my go-to. The squeezed citrus is just amazing! I will definitely be coming back to try some other items on the menu!

    Maybe a 1/2 bag, runny guacamole. $12

After quitting her job as a social worker, Garay decided to focus on her true passion: cooking! She and her partner Brendan spent over a year converting his work truck into the food truck. I was cycling on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail and decided to take a detour and check out the new location of the brewery. I was pretty hungry and was hoping that a food truck would be available. After looking over La Mesa's menu, I decided to order the Steak Quesadillas. They were served to me with a side of tortilla chips, sour cream, and salsa verde. These were really good quesadillas! We couldn't decide on just one thing, so we went all‑in on appetizers: * Tuna Tartar - super fresh and flavorful * Calamari Ecuadorian Style - tender with a sauce that was different in the best way * Trio Empanadas - the Colombian beef and Ecuadorian chicken were my favorites; the plantain & cheese one wasn't really my thing * Chickpea Salad - the dressing deserves its own award And shoutout to Fausto, our server. I have struggled with whether to write this review because this has become one of our favorite…read morelocal restaurants over the last year. In fact, one of the reasons we kept coming back was because this was one of the very few local restaurants that I believed truly understood celiac disease and took gluten-free dining seriously. However, as someone with celiac disease, I feel a responsibility to share my experience because what I have encountered goes far beyond a one-time mistake. Several months ago, we ordered takeout and I tested three separate items that were represented as gluten-free: tacos, a wedge salad, and a pop tart dessert. Most was already naturally gluten free. All three tested positive for gluten. These tests are not cheap, costing approximately $12 each, so this was not something I did lightly. I contacted the restaurant and spoke directly with the head chef. She was professional, understanding, and seemed genuinely concerned. She thanked me for bringing it to her attention and even mentioned that she planned to order a test herself because she could not understand how those items would contain gluten. Because of that conversation, I chose not to leave a review. I genuinely believed the issue would be investigated and corrected, and I wanted to give the restaurant the opportunity to make things right. Unfortunately, a later visit resulted in a positive gluten test on the smoked fish appetizer. Most recently, I returned again and tested several items. The calamari tested negative, but my gluten-free tacos once again tested positive for gluten. At this point, I have simply been glutened one too many times by a restaurant that I genuinely wanted to trust. What makes this especially difficult is that this restaurant presents itself as understanding celiac disease. I was told that members of the restaurant's family, including a daughter, have celiac disease. Hearing that gave me confidence that gluten-free orders would be taken seriously and that proper precautions would be in place. That is what makes these repeated positive gluten tests so confusing and disappointing. When a restaurant claims to understand celiac disease, I expect more than simply offering gluten-free menu items. I expect systems that actually prevent gluten contamination. After multiple positive gluten tests across multiple visits and after bringing my concerns directly to management months ago, it is difficult for me to reconcile those claims with my actual experiences. During my most recent visit, the waitress was kind and helpful, and I appreciate the way she handled the situation. However, I was told that a manager would come speak with me, and no manager ever did. My tacos were removed because they tested positive for gluten, yet I was still charged for them after deciding to take them home (for my non celiac hubby) rather than have them thrown away. In the end, I received a discount, but only after spending nearly $50 on gluten tests during that visit alone. As I write this, I am sitting here sad, frustrated, and in pain, knowing exactly what the next couple of weeks are likely going to look like for me. People often do not see what happens after someone with celiac disease is exposed to gluten. We do not go into anaphylaxis in the restaurant. We go home and suffer through the consequences alone. The symptoms may not be immediately visible to others, but the physical toll is very real. Every restaurant can make a mistake. My concern is not a single mistake. My concern is a repeated pattern over multiple visits, over several months, after the issue was brought directly to the restaurant's attention. I truly wanted to continue supporting this restaurant. I truly wanted to be able to recommend it to others in the celiac community. Unfortunately, after repeated positive gluten tests, repeated gluten exposures, and no evidence that the underlying problem has been corrected, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone with celiac disease or anyone who requires a truly gluten-free meal for medical reasons.
