Been here several times. The first time we were drawn by the positive reviews. The dine in experience is great. It's a nice quiet break from the cannery row madness. Just a few blocks up from McAbee Beach, it's an easy walk while Bob your uncle is taking a scuba class. We also did a catering order. Call ahead. The lady is really nice. We brought different burritos to the group, and we had happy campers. Literally. They were camping. So someone mention crab chimichanga. Yelp did not disappoint. Tons of crab stuffed inside a hard tortilla. Served on a plate of rice and cabbage. Wow good. We also ordered off the special board. If wet burrito is spelled wrong then you know it will be good. I got this recommendation off of Reddit (lol). The scallop was not very sweet and the overall flavor profile was a little too tomato-forward. The fish taco was very tender and the sauce was not too heavy. It's not baja style so keep that in mind! Plenty of cabbage; eat shortly after taking out to ensure the flour tortilla doesn't stick to the wrapping. The family that runs the place is so sweet! The burrito is approximately the size of my torso. It. Is. Intimidating! It comes with green and red salsas on the side, both of which I used a ton of. I wish the red sauce was spicier! My biggest complaint. Gimmie more hot! The burrito was amazing. Simple and so so good. The fish was so moist and broken into perfectly pieces. It was so flavorful and flaking apart perfectly. Besides that, the burrito just has sauteed cabbage and mayo and a bit of cheese. Pretty basic, and yet, so good. Overheard the person working tell a patron that the fish was sea bass. This little unassuming Mexican restaurant happened to be along our walk from the Monterey Aquarium. We were actually headed to another Mexican eatery, but found it to be closed. We were disappointed, because Joe had done some pre-vacation research to try some keto friendly dishes that they had on their menu. The Taqueria Del Mar, is nothing fancy as you walk in, just your basic order counter with old fashion diner style interior. Joe asked the woman who showed us their menu, if he could make changes in how his food could be prepared and they had no problem making the adjustments to fit his restricted diet. He ordered the scallops & fish combo with sparkling mineral water, while I got a shrimp tostada and Diet Pepsi. Our food arrived to our table freshly made and looking delicious! My tostada was generously loaded with a mound of grilled shrimps, black beans, shredded cabbage, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. It was good to the last bite. Even my tostada stayed crisp and crunchy to the end! Our meals were very satisfying, and we were glad that we ended up here after a long day at the aquarium! read more

I've been going to Taqueria Del Mar since 1998. It's been owned by the same family the whole time, and the food has been fantastic consistently. Bright clean space, welcoming vibe, fresh ingredients. My favorite is the fish taco with rice and beans. It's got fresh cabbage, and this amazing sauce. The rice they have is probably my favorite of any Taqueria. It's got this chewiness to it that I love. And their salsas are fantastic. The chorizo burrito is a close second. read more

After spending a most exhaustingly wonderful morning at the Monterey Aquarium, we drug our tired aching bodies up the hill to Lighthouse Avenue to grab some Mexican food. Unfortunately the Mexican food restaurant we wanted to eat at was closed so we trudged further up the street until we happened upon this little taqueria. My whole point for choosing the other Mexican restaurant was their keto friendly choices. Fortunately, the people in Taqueria Del Mar were super nice and accommodating when I brought up the subject that I did not see any keto friendly choices on their menu. I ended up ordering a fish and scallops tostada without the rice, beans and tortilla. They added extra salad and vegetables and the whole thing was delicious. The smoked paprika was a nice touch. The food is fresh, healthy and very well prepared, and the service prompt and friendly. I used to nearly always order the squid burrito, but the owner will not buy the local squid down at the wharf because it does not currently meet his standards. Until and if the quality squid returns, I order the shrimp burrito or shrimp tostado, and often an artichoke taco...delicious!!! Do NOT try to eat while driving. Flaw...they are supposed to open at 11:30 AM...they often don't open sharply...aim for 11:45 AM to Noon and you should be fine...worth it! Now when harp on some mexican restaurants and them being cookie cutter, this place has standards I must say they keep their flavors fresh and on-point. Plus did mention its economical too.
