We arrived when they opened. When you arrive you put your order in, grab a free orange, and head to your table. The cheese dip is very yummy. It almost beat us to the table.They give you a very generous serving amd very crispy chips. I ordered the roasted chicken enchiladas with beef chili topping, turnip greens, and shrimp and corn chowder. The enchilada is my go to meal. It was very delicious and consistent. The last couple times I have ordered the shrimp and corn chowder it was lacking SHRIMP. It used to be another go to, but I do not think I will order again. The turnip greens were salty. I will probably not order those again either. My Honey got the brisket tacos and the refried beans and rice combo. He said it was all very tasty. He did give me a bite. Neither one of us finished our meals. Like I said, very GENEROUS portions! Go and visit. It is worth the trip. Pay attention to the hours. They close during the afternoon for a few hours a day then reopen at night. Came in here the other day ordered a couple tacos and a beer. Lady at front asked for ID I provided which is a Georgia State Issued License. Was told to show another form of ID which I produced 2 she looked at them I paid thought all was good. All my other friends had their beers I figured it would be brought with the food. I go back up and ask kindly if she forgot my beer which I'm told my ID is fake. I ask her if we can call the police to check and instead I'm sent to the bar and finally got a beer. I got here a little bit before a group I was meeting & was kind of anxious about what to do but the employees were extremely helpful and kind when they told me what to do. I ear at Taqueria DelSol at least once a week. The food is always delicious and the service is excellent.

The guac and margaritas here are awesome. I always get guac, chips, and a margarita here. You can't go wrong with this combo. However, keep in mind these are probably some of the least authentic tacos you will ever try. They're really small and none of them are similar to traditional tacos I've had at several authentic Mexican restaurants. I actually really like the chicken taco, which is literally a fried chicken tender in a tortilla with lettuce and mayo. Sounds weird but it's good! It doesn't really taste like a taco though. I've also tried the special chicken taco here, which was also really good. It was grilled instead of fried. The brisket taco is okay to me but it's really juicy. Also the line here is usually really long unless you go at kind of a weird hour. The line starts outside the building when it's crowded and you order at the front, then sit down. The food is then brought out to you, usually pretty quickly. Food is pretty cheap as well. I would recommend about 3 tacos + chips to be full, 2 tacos if you're not a big eater. If you hate non-authentic Mexican food and hate lines, you might want to stay away from this place. Otherwise, the guac, tacos, and margaritas here are a satisfying combo! read more

For sure one of my favorite spots in Athens to grab dinner! The service is always super quick and I love that it's so low key but also offers amazing food! My go to order is the enchiladas with carnitas and the lemon cream sauce! They are so delicious. The sauce isn't overly lemony, so don't be worried about that. The queso is also amazing so be sure not to pass on that. The guac is always amazing and you can't go wrong with a marg. Right now, you order up front per usual but they aren't bringing food to your table. They just call your name and you have to go get it because of covid precautions. Over the years, I tried almost everything and have Rarely ever been disappointed. These people know how to create some Of the most Wonderful weekly specials. First time popping into TDS was not one to disappoint! Great location. Fast service. Food is super fresh. And the tacos were amazing! We had the brisket, Memphis pork, and fried chicken, and all were . Pork had such a great deep smoke flavor and chicken was perfectly breaded and freshly fried. The small menu here is spot on and the fast casual environment made for a perfect quick bite. Definitely on the list of must go to spots in Athens. And sadly, there seems to be not much that hits the mark in terms of flavor, service, or quality food from what we've tried. It's nice to see a place that is no muss or fuss and does things right. I went here with a club association and I felt bad as we arrived 45 minutes before close with 19 people for to-go. But when we got our food, the tacos were soggy. And afterwards the majority of our group got food poisoning. As a Mexican I didn't approve completely of the Southern x Mexican cuisine. But I definately don't approve of food poisoning. I've already been to the location in Westside Atlanta, so I wanted to see how this establishment was doing in Athens. Like the other location, the interior remains clean and minimal, light wood floors and tables flanked by clean white walls. There's also a spatious outdoor seating area that's roofed and cooled by large fans too, very enjoyable during the long summer evenings in Athens. The menu is largely the same, new American inspired soft flour tacos, enchiladas, along with sides, soups, and chips. Our table started off with the salsa trio, which you can't beat. The corn tortilla chips are lighter than most of the ones I've eaten, really crisp and delicate. The sauces we had were this green tomatillo/salsa verde, pico de gallo, and this purple/brown tomatillo (don't know what it is). The pico de gallo was fresh and as expected, the green tomatillo had some kick to it, but the brown salsa had this perfect balance of savoriness and spiciness to it. For my entree I ordered 3 tacos: the Memphis, Brisket, and Fried Chicken tacos. All of them were average sized, 3 tacos would fill up most people. The Memphis taco was by far my favorite among the three. The pork was tender and juicy, with a nice bark on the outside, and the tang of the BBQ sauce balanced out with the creamy, crunchy coleslaw on top. If I could change my order, I'd order 3 of these tacos. Probably on par with Torchy's Tacos down in Texas if you ask me. The Brisket taco was average in my opinion. The meat was cooked decently, tender but a bit tough still. The flavor, however, was pretty lacking. I guess I could taste a subtle hint of cilantro with the brisket or something, but just the pico de gallo left the taco pretty neutral. The Fried Chicken taco was a disappointment. I think it was just my taco in particular, because the rest of my table thoroughly enjoyed it. The piece of chicken I had was tough, overcooked slightly, and chewy (maybe a little tendon in there?). Like the Brisket taco, there wasn't much flavor to it, except for a little creaminess from the mayo. I wish they battered it in buttermilk batter or dressed it with a more pronounced sauce, because it felt really lacking, and I really wanted to like it. My experience here was a mix of good and bad. However, out of everything, I really enjoyed the atmosphere the most here. Sitting in the outdoor patio with the summer night breeze and crickets, talking among friends was pleasing. Delicious fresh tacos at crazy low prices. The fish taco had 2 small fish fingers with a sauce on top. It was really good but was undressed and needed a little crunch - maybe a bit of coleslaw. The Brisket and Veggie Bean tacos were really good too. Chips do not come with the meal but you can get them if you order cheese dip, salsa or guacamole. We got the cheese dip which was too spicy for me. It has jalapeños mixed in it already and they put even more marinated jalapeños on top. My friend liked it. I love the open air vibe of the restaurant, however, we came on a summer day and it was uncomfortably hot sitting outside and the inside was full. Parking is difficult. Found a hair in my taco, the manager did not even attempt to step in as I told the waiter. She then proceeded to tell the kitchen "un pelo" (" a hair") in spanish and laughed it off. Since I've discovered Taqueria Del Sol, I've already been back a handful of times. Parking can be a bit tough during a busy dinner service. The wait to order your food can be long, but the service is ridiculously (almost scary) fast and I really enjoy that. If it's just you and friend, feel free to grab a seat at the bar during rush hour to get quick service. The atmosphere is chill and relaxed. The restaurant is always clean. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating area is an open concept and has fans from the roof to cool you down. It's the perfect seating with a breeze. On a rainy day, they put down clear curtains to block out the rain. Every week they have different specials. Their main food consists of tacos and enchiladas. Chips and salsa are not included, but you can get them as an appetizer. The salsa trio comes with 3 different salsas, each with a different taste and spice level. The cheese dip is served warm and it the cheese is just so ooey gooey. The Memphis is my favorite taco out of the ones on the main menu. The smoked pork and refreshing coleslaw is a great combination. The fish is also good, it comes with a piece of fried tilapia with tartar sauce and jalapenos. The fried chicken and brisket tacos are just ok, nothing too special. I really enjoy their margaritas (frozen or on the rocks) because it's not too strong in alcohol. read more
