Nothing fancy, just a Mom & Pop operation, serving up some very tasty food at incredibly reasonable prices. A small seating areas offers a few four top tables and they do a steady to go business. I ate there Dec 21, 2022. So they are open. Got 3 barbacoa tacos, with onions, lettuce, tomatoes. Absolutely outstanding. This is a hole-in-the-wall inside a hole-in-the-wall place. Restaurant is in the back, with a now-nearly-closed mexican grocery in the front. They had no heat and the restroom was locked, not working (I guess use the restroom at Shelton's across the street). Small table at the front to eat your food. The barbacoa tacos were excellent. That's all you need to know, as all the rest is trivia--the barbacoa tacos are great. Your only regret will be not ordering 20 barbacoa tacos to go. Gave it a 4 instead of a 5 as the ambience has to pull down any rating. Go for the food. Ground beef tacos were good in prior visits when they were sold out of barbacoa, not a fan of the pork tacos then. read more

Okay. We just moved up here from the south a little over a week ago. I've been on a MISSION to find a good Mexican spot. Our first day here, we got there a little too late and it was closing.. but when I saw a sign that said they sell elotes, I knew that this was not an accident... oh no, my friends, God was showing me where I will be spending half of my time while I'm living here. So a couple of days later, I'm on here looking up the address to this place and a couple hours earlier someone made a review stating that it was filthy and had horrible food. Did that deter me from my elote destiny? Absolutely NOT. I still wanted to give the place a chance because let's be real, elotes are actually THAT important. So we pull up, go in, and I notice how CLEAN the place is. They have some groceries in the front and a little dining area in the back. I ordered my elote in a cup and as I'm waiting for my appointment witch cheesy spicy destiny, I'm looking around. I got my kids some drinks. All the groceries are super reasonably priced. The people seemed nice although I didn't get to talk much. So anyway, 5 mins later my elote is ready. Anyway, have y'all ever seen Forest Gump? You know the part where Forest and Jenny are running towards each other and reunite in the reflecting pool in D.C.? (Yes Claire, but what does this have to do with this?) I'll tell you what it has to do with this! THATS HOW GOOD THAT ELOTE WAS. Seriously, all the feels. I left and ate in my car so I could be a piglet and inhale it in two seconds but it was SO GOOD. And I def didn't get "sick" from eating here. Side note: food-borne sicknesses or food poisoning take AT the very LEAST 12 hours to incubate so if one got sick "immediately" after eating here, it wasn't bc of the food. This place doesn't need a health department visit. They need an award for making my taste buds insanely happy. :) I didn't have time to go try anything else that day specifically but best believe I'll be back bc their other food looks fire too. read more

My friend really wanted tamales and we saw on Yelp that this taqueria served them. We entered the supermarket and saw that most shelves were bare. We went to the back to the order counter and placed our order for tamales. There was one other customer, but our food took over 10 minutes before it was ready. While waiting at the table, I couldn't help but notice how filthy the floors were! The tamales were inedible as they were so dry with very little filling...the husks were so dry that trying to "peel" them off was an ordeal as they came off in little pieces. My friend took one bite of the pork one and didn't eat any more. I had a bite of the chicken one and it was just as dried out as the pork one. We left the food and left the market very hungry. Not looking for tamales anytime soon! read more

Everytime we visit my wife's family in Niles, we make a point to pick up some vegetarian tamales from here. This is one of the few places that we have ever found to get authentic tamales WITHOUT the meat. These guys do a fantastic job, but you need to order them a day in advance so that they have time to prepare and cook them for you. It is so worth the wait and we will usually order a dozen or two just because we know we won't be able to stop eating them. A hole in the wall that's the gem of authentic Mexican Food which is very rare to find. Their tacos and tostadas are the bomb. Their Horchata drink is soooooo good wayyyyy better than the Mexican spot a mile up the road. Very humble place that cooks their food with lots of love. I love this place for authentic Mexican food for lunch. Their pork tacos are delicious. They have a cup of corn that is amazing, and is a must have at every visit. The food is fresh and made to order. The front of the store is a grocery store, and the restaurant is at the back of the store. Friendly staff and great food. Five stars for sure!! read more

I go there at least once a week and love the food. Almost always get the veggie tostada which is excellent. It is loaded with rice and beans, lettuce, tomato, big slices of avocado and yummy Mexican cheese. It's fast if you just go in and order but you can also call ahead for carry out. read more

My boyfriend and I were at Walmart today and we were checking out, when we struck up a conversation with a man behind us. He said he was one of the owners of a Mexican restaurant by sheltons and they were having $1 tacos for cinco de mayo. There is no decent authentic Mexican restaurant in the area so my boyfriend and I decided to go. We walk in the door and it was empty in the grocery area until we walked to the back where the restaurant is and saw all the people in line to pay and all the ones that were eating. I had no idea this place existed and have never been more happy I took a chance. We ordered 6 tacos to go. When we got our food the man who was behind us at Walmart was behind the counter, remembered our names and thanked us for coming by! And let me tell you it sure won't be the last time. The tacos were the best authentic tacos We have ever had! They were stuffed. They definitely didn't cut any corners and their menu has me excited for my trip back!
