He took his own jalapeno today; not because they do not have, but because he really likes a lot of fresh jalapeno. And as he said "you're not to be embarrassed here!" He raves about the service. Everything is fresh & delicious and most importantly, he loves the value. He had 2 filling soft shell tacos for $6.96. (I received a picture of the receipt with a BIG smiley face!) If The Captain keeps coming back with his "refined taste buds", you must be doing something right!!

The smells brought me back to being in Cozumel grabbing a quick taco off the main drag. I ordered the Carne Asada steak and it was out of this world. The sauces they give you were all completely unique. Watch out for the dark brown one because it about knocked me over with the spice. I was in tears although it did taste amazing. My order was made quick, making it a great option for those looking for a satisfying meal on a busy schedule. Taco House stands out for its authentic flavors, and attentive service. If you happen to be driving north headed to Chattanooga I would stop and give them a try.

Chips and salsa were generic, sadly about what I was expecting. Vegetarian burrito was above average. Lots of veggies, unfortunately they were a bit oily and overall the burrito was also bland. Ironically, it was plated very well with some grilled onion, rice and beans and guac. The rice and beans were the same industrial type food as the chips, but the guac was actually pretty good and I appreciated the grilled onion. Not my first stop, but not horrible.

The freshness and flavors took us back to street taco carts in Mexico. We don't live close ,but do pass this exit often. They will def be on our "Stop by " list! Go , you won't be sorry. For those still reading, if you're used to going out for "Mexican" food where sombreros hang on fake adobe walls and the lunch menu includes something called the Speedy #5, forget it. But, if you grew up in the South like me and know that a craving for Nanny's biscuits and gravy means avoiding flashy chain restaurants like the plague, you'll understand Carniceria Y Tienda La Mexicana the minute you walk in the door. This is a wonderful place serving up authentic examples of Mexican down-home cooking. A few things to keep in mind: 1. The menu seems to be fairly extensive, although I've never actually seen a menu. 2. If you don't speak Spanish, you might be in for an adventure. Don't let that scare you away though! Persevere and you'll be well rewarded. My first time, I was a bit out of my depth. Luckily a nearby table of young ladies came to my rescue and acted as my translators! 3. When you're ready to pay, take your ticket to the counter in the attached grocery store. Make sure to browse while you're there for tasty treats unavailable in your local mega-mart. 4. If you're concerned about a language barrier, go to the grocery store counter when you arrive and ask for a little assistance ordering, they're very nice and quite fluent in English. I've saved the best for last. On Fridays and Saturdays, the ladies in the kitchen make up a giant batch of the best Tamales I've ever tasted. In fact they might be one of the best anythings I've ever tasted. So, run by on your Friday lunch break and pick up a couple. A chocolate brownie with ice cream and rum sauce . . . We fought over it even though we were so full after the great dinner. We love Home. The family they were seating was even SO shocked that they looked at us and said no you guys were here first and apologized. When I asked the young waitress why she skipped us, she replied that the table was for 4. I expressed that it was not ok to skip over us and that we were not going to keep waiting while they continue to skip over us and that we would leave. She shrugged and said "Ok" while the short fat woman that was training her looked in our faces and loudly said "Oh well"! When we got in the car and I called for the manager, she first blamed us for leaving and then tried to blame the waitress in training. I'm not sure what training has to do with common sense or etiquette but it seems as though none of the 3 women had either! This ENTIRE experience was HORRIBLE!!
