Another amazing night at Home. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. Our daughter was moving to Boulder the next day, so this was a celebration/good-bye dinner, and it couldn't have been more perfect. Our table was lovely and private, perfect for heartfelt conversation, and our server, Bailey, was cheerful as always and so accommodating. We started with mussels and the Caesar salad. Both were good, but I can't stop thinking about the buttery deliciousness of the mussels and broth. Honestly, the best I've ever had. My husband and I had the fish and chips: steel-head trout, lightly battered and fried with tartar sauce and malt vinegar. So good! Our daughter had the ribeye and it was out of this world. Perfectly cooked to medium rare, nice sear on the outside and a gorgeous red center. Easily the best steak my daughter and husband (couldn't resist a taste) had ever had. The garlic compound butter is a must-have. Perfect compliment to the steak. We foolishly ended with an incredibly decadent dessert and it, too, was amazing! A chocolate brownie with ice cream and rum sauce . . . We fought over it even though we were so full after the great dinner. We love Home. A wonderful relaxing dinner, a wonderful special occasion place, or a great place to try their take-out menu, we are so lucky to have Home so near our community. This was a good find for a date night in the mountains where choices are limited. It was clean, pretty and great ambiance. The menu was limited and overpriced but that comes with any nice restaurant. We both got the filet and thought good, both were overcooked and not worth the $60 price, more like $40-$45 steak. The green beans and potato cake came with it. Would have preferred a baked or sweet potato of my choosing as the taste of the cake wasn't my favorite. All in all, it was still a great dinner and a great choice, especially if you are not a picky eater and like trying different things. The bread and spread were also yummy and their cocktails looked really good! We would visit again when in the area. read more

What a great restaurant! This was our first visit and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was super-friendly and knowledgeable. They have a full bar and did a wonderful job with the drinks. Must have reservations! Very small restaurant set in house off the road...parking limited. Peeked around to see lovely set tables with a fresh rose, and windows to view outside trees. No sterile bright lit environment, which I loved, nice music. Separate bar area with a couple tables which also takes reservations. Take out menu appears quite larger than daily changing menu. Ordered the local Watermelon radish salad, and brownie like ice cream dessert...restaurant made bread etc..also for purchase. Had the Everything bagel for breakfast. Had a fabulous time dining at "Home." We had reservations at 7p & arrived 15 mins early. Our table wasn't ready but we were seated within 5 mins. The menu was not huge but the dishes seemed tasty & prices weren't too high. Not a lot of non-alcoholic options but they have the basics. Wine & draft options are extensive. All the dishes from beginning to end were good. Nothing was over seasoned. Everyone who served us acknowledged what we were there to celebrate & we were given complimentary in-house-made chocolate truffles. Most diners were of an older crowd but it's a family-friendly setup & great for date night, business meeting, or night out with friends. Low pop & r&n plays low throughout the restaurant. Low lightening with a chill vibe where you can dress up or down. This is a hidden gem. read more

Wow. This was one of the best meals that I have ever had. We ordered carry out through the Toast Tab app, and the process went very smoothly. They also offer dine in but make sure to get a reservation! We ordered the Grilled Chicken meal for 2, The Ribs for 2, the Caesar Salad, and the Brussel sprouts. The grilled chicken was very well seasoned and it was served with great Mac and cheese and Focaccia. The Focaccia was incredible! It had a subtle sweetness to it that was amazing. The ribs weren't my favorite thing that I ate there, but they were still very tasty. They were served with a delicious squash casserole and two dinner rolls. The Caesar salad was pretty standard and tasted very fresh. The Brussel Sprouts were absolutely incredible. The combination of the lemon and the Parmesan was so good. I wish I would've gotten multiple orders. The portions were good and the food wasn't overly expensive. Overall we were very pleased with our experience ordering from The Home Restaurant and we will definitely return if we are in Big Canoe again. read more

Bartenders and servers are enthusiastic and busy but very attentive with the full restaurant. The ambiance has it all... Romantic, family, friends, party .... Or single people feel great comfort in a room full of friendly strangers! The bar seats go first to the early birds.... And regulars . We have never gotten a seat there. Reservations ARE a must ... but not required. Chances of eating without reservations is slim. Parking sometimes looks filled up but we we ALWAYS find a spot ! The food is home cooking but next level flavors and presentation! Everything tastes better here!!! A burger... will be the best burger you have had and the TRUFFLE FRIES ! Go go go !!!! Went here for a birthday dinner. We got seated quickly that's about the only thing that was quick. Our server Waylon, was missing in action several times. He was really nice but the attention to our party was slow. For example, the time to get a water was about 15 min. The place isn't too big so I knew we didn't have to put up missing person signs. While on vacation, our friends treat us to dinner at this restaurant and we're so excited to take us. Once we got there, I definitely understood why! The service was amazing. Our waiters were still attentive and helpful and were excited to share about the food and drinks here. We started with some drinks and appetizers like the pork belly, as well as brussels sprouts and some others and everything was great! we could not stop eating them and nothing was left on the plates. We also ordered dinner. I ordered the meatloaf that came with mashed potatoes and an onion ring on top as well as some veggies and it was to die for. There was nothing more comforting at the moment than to have some meatloaf while on vacation on the mountainside of Georgia. The desserts were even better! I can't wait to go back to Georgia and check this place out again and see what else they have since they also rotate their menu and everything is fresh as served. Super dinner for 5 at Home. The cocktails and mocktails are fun. The small plates we shared as appetizers: braised short ribs with Home made pappadelle pasta, roasted brussel sprouts in a wonderful sauce, mozzarella cheese served with herbs and caviar. Dinner: great lump crab cakes! Wonderful sea bass and delicious rainbow trout. I had a lamb shank that was perfect. And a meatloaf lover. Everyone loved their main dish. Dessert: the banana carmel fudge brownie with ice cream is always a huge hit. We tried the peach tart with ice cream. It was okay. But it is GA peach season! My wife and I have been to Home Restaurant multiple times and always have experienced quality dining at a fair price. We took two friends from out of town to dinner to celebrate last night and it became an unusual combination of highs and lows. Apps that should have been hot came out cool, and entrees where the protein was cooked perfectly had sauces that were so heavily salted that our dishes became almost inedible. I do not know if the kitchen staff is new or inexperienced in QC checks prior to serving, but this (no pun intended) left a really bad taste in my mouth. The ambiance and service could not have been better which further upset my expectations. read more

The most arrogant owner in all Georgia ! We just bought in Big Canoe and everyone and everything had been spectacular which is why this place stood out. Rude, arrogant and dismissive does not capture the ethos the wonderful owners exude. Go to Sourwood, go to the clubhouse for great people and food DO NOT go to home - crap people who smile as they tell you to go take a hike I was in total disbelief. The owner had her hands on her hips and was wagging her finger turning us away - I know how about 1. "Sorry But coming for glasses wine and see the inside of the restaurant!" Or 2. "Sorry let me recommend a few other restaurants that might be able to accommodate you" But noooo, she had the maturity and the discretion of a 4 month old lab. Hey Home - you dont earn the right to be in Big Canoe. Sad. Maybe your just a homophobe even that would make more sense. Fortunes come and go and someday you will be begging for business but you will have earned your spectacular failure. read more

Finally went to Home after it being recommended numerous times...and we were not disappointed. Menu changes often and could have a bit more to offer a vegetarian (my wife); however, they did have a small plate pasta offering along with delicious Yukon Gold potatoes and excellent roasted Brussels Sprouts in a truffle oil sauce. I had the Steelhead Trout as an entree which was a large portion and very Salmon-esque in appearance. It was served with a cauliflower puree which was fantastic. Nice bar and an extensive bourbon selection...their Old Fashioned was very good. We'll be back. read more

We have eaten here probably half a dozen time. This has become one of our favorite places to eat and go for a date night. The menu rotates slightly weekly but everything has been very good. We have had everything from Onion rings to salad to burgers, steak, pasta and shrimp and grits. We have always had desserts and not one of them has been bad. This restaurant has a comfortable feel to it and it feels special and not like a chain. They use local Ingredients and make everything and I mean everything. If you get another yes it's local meat and yes they made the bun. They tell you on the menu where everything comes from and don't hide it. The staff is always nice and just the right amount of attention. The drinks are great and whoever is the bar know how to make an old fashioned. If you are looking for a place to go and want to enjoy a nice dinner date or dinner with friends you won't go wrong here and please make a reservation. read more

Alright. First let me state I am not a family member or close friend of anyone at Home restaurant. I have done more than one review of Home being it's our favorite place and close to us. As much as we love to go and have the in restaurant experience we haven't had the opportunity for quite some time and use the take out service. Last night we had the Beef Enchiladas over rice and the shredded pork over grits with fresh veggies and accompanied by the best bread around. Once again outstanding. I promise, if we have something we don't like we will tell y'all but we have yet to be disappointed. Wife and I Have a friend in town and we all agreed the meal was five stars. We all shared 2 double orders of the enchiladas (only needed one, but have the other order for tonight) and the pork and grits. So delicious. We each had a little of both orders and it turned out to be the perfect combo. We are calling it the US south meets Mexico special . The orders for two are a great deal and are very big portions. Great value for the quality and selection...We had the Fried Shrimp and Crab Cakes to start - fresh, hot, and delicious! Don't skip the complimentary Bread. We ordered a bit of everything (party of 7) - Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, Meatloaf, Burger, Brisket, and Vegetable Plate. I'd rate the Fried Chicken and Catfish at the top with an edge to the Chicken because of the Greens on the side. The Burger was a strong third with outstanding flavor and "Best French Fries Every" as my son says. The Corn was great on the Vegetable Plate and everything else looked delicious (didn't sample those). My Daughter loved the Meatloaf and substituted Macaroni and Cheese for the vegetable - it was delicious. Clean, friendly, and great atmosphere. Dine here -- Really, you must! We traveled to big Canoe from Michigan, as we had rented a house for a weeklong getaway. Genuine, Southern hospitality is a thing, and they have perfected it at Home. Our server (who, coincidentally, was also from the Mitten!) was absolutely lovely, attentive, and we felt very well cared for without anyone being obtrusive, which is an art. They did a great job anticipating our needs. The entire staff was wonderful. And the food! It was spectacular. We had our eight-year-old twins with us, who are used to dining out but are somewhat picky. Everyone found something they absolutely loved. In fact, the kids enjoyed the flatbread so much, we ordered one to take home for lunch the next day. My salmon was absolute perfection. Our children asked if we could go back to dine there again the next day. We all would have loved to if we weren't heading home! Michigan has had some of the strictest Covid precautions in place, so we really haven't done much of anything for close to a year. Our restaurants only just re-opened at 25% capacity last week. We felt completely safe dining here. Tables were more than adequately spaced, and they have clearly thought through every aspect of the dining experience to make sure their guests and staff are safe. This is exactly the kind of remarkable, independent, family run establishment we should all be supporting, especially in these trying times.
