3.5 stars. I really wanna love this place, but it's inconsistent. They have great specials. $5 for 2 fish tacos are delicious when made to order. When the fish has been sitting their, I think you can figure out the problem. Same thing for the shrimp taco special Tacos are generally great but can sometimes be a bit dry depending on the meat. The salsa macha is my jam $5 torta Wednesdays. $7 Thursday burrito. 99 cent Taco Tuesday, so I'm really not complaining Friday churros are the best churros in town, hands down. Stopped by because I saw they were having a $2 taco deal, and even at that price, they were NOT worth it. I ordered 3 for dine-in and 4 to go for tomorrow's lunch, which turned out to be a HUGE mistake. I wish I would have tried them first before ordering extras to take home. The tacos were AWFUL. The bistec tacos had such a strange taste that I can't even compare it to anything else I've ever had. Got a birria taco as well and it smelled and tasted terrible. Eating these tacos was a very unpleasant experience from start to finish. I was grossed out the entire time, but I didn't want to waste food, so I drowned the bistec ones in their green chile salsa to make them somewhat more edible. The birria one, I could not finish at all. It was that bad! To make matters worse, the cilantro looked unwashed and had several brown pieces mixed in. What upset me was that they also messed up the four tacos I ordered to go. I ordered bistec as well, but when I got home and opened the container, I found 4 carnitas tacos instead. Considering how long I waited for my order, it's frustrating that it was still prepared incorrectly. Unfortunately, the carnitas were no better. They were hard, dry, and looked and smelled unappetizing. Carnitas also isn't my preferred meat, so I knew immediately that I wasn't going to eat them. I called the number on the receipt, and while the cashier answered, there was no apology for the mix-up. I was simply told that if I wanted a refund or exchange, I would have to drive all the way back and return the incorrect order. At that point, it wasn't worth it. I live somewhat far from this place, and spending additional time and gas just to replace tacos that were already disappointing didn't make any sense. If you order food to go, I highly recommend checking your order before leaving so you don't end up with the wrong order like I did. The aguas frescas are alright, hence the two stars, but the food itself is mediocre. I personally do not recommend this place and will not be coming back after this experience. read more

Ordered Carnitas Taco and it was chopped in blocks, fat all over it. I prefer it shredded. The Birria was pure salt, all salt. I couldn't finish it. I wonder if they taste their Birria during and after they make it because the salt is overpowering and not edible. I won't be back. read more

Walked in with my family and the cook took our order the reason I know he was the cook because after I was done placing it he went to the kitchen and started cooking it. But that's not the problem the problem was He was rude, dismissive, and clearly annoyed that I had questions since I was new to the place. Zero hospitality, zero effort. I should have walked out right then, but I stupidly stayed because I wanted to try something new. Biggest mistake. The food was completely flavorless garbage. My burrito tasted like nothing no seasoning, no spice, no character. The meat was bland and lifeless, like they forgot it was supposed to have any taste at all. The only thing that had any flavor was the guacamole, which of course was an upcharge. Everything was an add-on. Nothing came standard. They nickel and dime you for the most basic ingredients while serving food that has no business being sold. I will never go back and I strongly recommend no one else does either. I usually go on weeknights before the dinner rush, and I prefer to sit outside because the music is too loud. Tacos are $3 each depending on the meat. Premium meat costs more. If you order regular meat, then you can get 3 of the same tacos for only $5. Salsa macha is self-serve on the far left of the counter. The chili oil includes peanuts and has a smoky and earthy taste. TACOS ORDERED - Fish. The fried fish tacos are delicious and not too oily. Shredded cabbage, tomato, and onion add freshness. I appreciate the smear of guacamole at the bottom. - Cabeza. Juicy and soft with the classic gelatinous texture. I like the meat drippings, but sometimes they put too much and it makes the tortilla disintegrate. - Carne asada (Arrachera premium meat). The steak can be really good or average. Sometimes it's tender and smoky, other times it's tough and less flavorful. - Chorizo. I enjoy the meaty texture and sour flavor of this sausage. Incidentally, this ingredient has given me the most trouble. One time, I asked for chorizo and received al pastor. There was another time when the chorizo was straight up missing from my breakfast burrito. - Carnitas (deep fried). I find that the pork is neither juicy nor dry. The amount of oil varies. The last time I ordered a carnitas taco was frightening. Oil continuously pooled out of it and got all over my hands. I mopped it up with a napkin 3 times and was burping all night. - Al Pastor. I usually take a bite from my bf's plate instead of ordering the al pastor for myself. The quality of the meat seems all over the place. Sometimes it's tender, sometimes it's too hard, sometimes it's sliced, and sometimes it looks like ground meat. The flavor is interesting though; it almost reminds me of char siu pork. - Quesabirria Plate ($14 - 3 pcs). The shredded beef is soft and juicy. Unfortunately, the meat was too salty when I first tried it, and the consomme was EXTREMELY salty and oily. The second time we got this, they forgot to include the consomme with our to-go order. They also added too much cheese, which overpowered the beef. OTHER ITEMS ORDERED - Papa Ranchera ($14). This was a massive russet potato topped with arrachera, crema, green onion, and broiled cheese. Underneath the cheese was a pool of butter that provided a necessary amount of fat and moisture. The steak was a little tough, but the uneven cook on the potato was more egregious. Half of it was hard and overcooked and difficult to break apart. The red salsa was good though, spicy and earthy. - Carne Asada Fries ($14). This was a generous heap of grilled steak and nacho cheese on top of thick-cut fries. The steak was excellent that day. However, I prefer more toppings on my asada fries. I added shredded cabbage and chopped chili pepper when I got home. - Tlayuda ($33). So my bf and I discovered that the tlayuda feeds about six people and comes in a pizza box. We shared it all week LMAO! The thin, crispy tortilla at the bottom was on the dry side. It supported thick layers of refried beans, cabbage, and Oaxacan cheese. There were further toppings including cured beef, chorizo, sliced tomato, ripe avocado, grilled nopales, jalapenos, raw onion, and pickled onion. The beef was a little dry and salty, but the flavor was good. I liked the chorizo better. I've never had cactus before, but it was alright. The texture was like a firm and crunchy aloe with a slightly sour flavor. - Torta with Al Pastor. This was a straightforward sandwich: meat, cheese, and guacamole on a chewy, buttery bun. I would have preferred some vegetables, but I remember the al pastor was really good that day. - Chorizo Breakfast Burrito. It was a solid burrito, except they forgot my chorizo. There was only egg, cheese, and potato. They gave me a sausage on the side when I went back to let them know. I went home and put the chorizo into the remaining part of my burrito. read more

The food was fresh to order. The asada was amazing! Juicy and tender. The ambiance was chill- not too busy or loud but just what you'd expect. The service we received was quick and courteous. Their current menu in store has more options than those uploaded on Yelp. Also, yes $3 tacos. Gordita $8. Agua frescas $7 We got the torta de asada and it was delicious! The bread was soft but warm/toasted, the cheese was melted and warm. The Gordita was stuffed and filled with toppings and meat. Asada tacos were also filling. Definitely not stingy with the meats. We appreciate the self serve salsa cus we are sauce people. Iykyk. Took a visit this past Friday during the farmers market and ordered two fish tacos, an asada taco, and a asada torta. The cost was effective however, the quality of the food was incomprehensible! I literally took a bit of each item and tossed the whole thing away. The fish was salty and the tortillas were cold, the asada meat was undercooked and tasted terrible. I could've approached the kitchen staff but if this is what they served, I'm sure they couldn't care less to rectify themselves. I am sorry but how is this place even open! read more

The store is located in old town Monrovia off Myrtle. There is parking on the street and in nearby lots. We tried the fish tacos (fried fish, grilled not available) and huevos and chorizo burrito. Plenty of toppings and very good portions. It was a bit greasy to me but maybe because I'm used to grilled fish tacos. With the economy right now I say good bang for your buck ;) Very pleasant staff. Large selection salsa bar. Large menu with a good selection. Perhaps next time I'll try a different kind of taco. They seem to have a big variety of meats so maybe that's their specialty. read more

Came here on Taco Tuesday excited for a deal, but left a bit disappointed. The cashier who took our order had an attitude that threw us off, but we brushed it off at first. We paid $46 (which seemed high for .99 tacos), and when we checked the bag in the car, the order was completely wrong, missing tacos and several we didn't even order. Went back in and were met with another round of attitude from the same cashier, but luckily another staff member helped us out and was much nicer. She acknowledged the mistake, reprinted our receipt, and confirmed we were overcharged. Thankfully, she processed a refund. As for the food... meat was just okay. Wonderful tacos!!! The tortillas were sturdy and didn't fall apart and I love their creamy orange looking sauce! Definitely come check out their taco Tuesdays deals. We got the buche, cabeza, al pastor, and they were all fantastic. Parking is easy and they have plenty of seating in an open area. They also have something called Dubai Chocolate Strawberries?? Ambiance/Decor: Alright decor with some tables and chairs to eat and sit on. They also have some tables outside. Service: Service was okay. Depending on the day and time, it can be busy. We went on Farmer's Market Friday Nights and the shop was packed. Food Of Choice: Pollo Quesadilla: Their quesadilla is a decent size (4 big pieces). Which comes with pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, and hot sauce. Sure wish they can include sour cream, but that might be wishful thinking. The chicken was good also. Drink Of Choice: Agua frescas are very good and most importantly, they have free refills! I usually get the pina (pineapple) flavor. Very refreshing! I really wanted to love this place but after trying it several times, I've decided it's a no. The tacos are so dry from the meat to the tortilla and with very little flavor. Just so you know, they don't come with any toppings. You will literally get your choice of meat in a tortilla that isn't even very warmed up and will crumble in half when you pick it up. Usually when you order street tacos they come with at minimum cilantro and onion. That is not the case here if you order to go. If you dine in, then you can choose from the toppings that are sitting out on the counter in covered and not cold being exposed to flies. The guacamole was the only thing that was delicious but for $4.00 for a 1/4cup... I'll pass. The service was quick but if you're just throwing meat in a tortilla then you better be. read more

We've been meaning to come here for a while now. We come by often on Fridays when there's the Farmer's Market on Myrtle. They have a neat display on the counter if several menu items. It caught our attention since they looked pretty appealing. Food ordered: basket salad with al pastor and tripas nachos Drinks: cucumber mint agua frescas The basket salad shell was crunchy and the al pastor meat was juicy, but a bit salty for my liking. It has many layers inside, with beans, veggies and rice closer to the bottom. I thought it was interesting that they had kale in there, which is not a typical veggie in Mexican tacos or tostadas, but I didn't mind it. It's quite a large portion so I only ate half of it. The nachos were loaded with protein, but it didn't stand out as much to us. We don't really see tripa on nachos, so maybe we could've ordered a better combo of protein with the nachos. The agua frescas was good. It had a lot of mint and concentrated cucumber flavor without it tasting too sweet and overpowering. It's on the more expensive side, but I guess the portion sizes are larger. I can't speak for the tacos since we haven't tried those yet, but the basket salad and nachos were plentiful. read more

Don't do it.. go to King Taco instead. You can tell that the people behind this did their homework and cherry picked ideas from other taquerias (like Tacos Los Cholos and King Taco), but it didn't work. Quality of ingredients was not good. The rib eye fries are made with canned nacho cheese, not fresh shredded cheese (as are the nachos I heard). For $18, I am completely disappointed. The tortillas were not hand made like someone had indicated in their review. And the panela in my taco was actually queso fresco straight out of the refrigerator so the tortilla was cold on arrival. The nopales were stiff and uncooked, just toasted on the outside. The veggies were spoiled. The agua Fresca wasn't so bad but more on the sweet side. The chile relleno was the best thing out of everything we ordered. On the plus, the place is bright and inviting. The staff are nice but not too sympathetic with how disappointed we were. Introduction: - saw this shop when I was craving for some food. Thought I would give this place a try since Im here in Old town Monrovia quite often. Pros: - Their quesibirria tacos definitely hit my taste buds. It was a flavor bomb. Rich with juices and topped it off with the soup & lemon. I put myself in a food coma. The place is amazing but they need some consideration in the way MEAT is cooked. 1 . The Food. AAA The sauces great taste and smell great. Crispy bread for Salad bowl amazing. But !!! The chicken was over cooked to the point that taste like jerky . All they need to do is under cook it till order comes and then heat it up. It was really felt like dry jerky. Amount of meat on salad was very little too. Rest of ingredients were really fresh. 2. Parking ( A )it's down town Monrovia parking is not easy . 3 restrooms AA are great new and clean 4. He offered me a bit in a sample cup to taste and I loved the chewy, silky texture. We've been excited for this local spot to open for ages and now they finally are! Great location, friendly staff, nice vibes and very clean, but expensive for the quality and prices aren't posted anywhere inside that I could find. We got three chicken tacos and these ended up being $3 each. They were decent - the meat was soft and had a nice flavor - portions were generous. But they're your average street taco and just weren't outstanding enough to justify the price. Their quesibirria tacos come as a "plate" of 3 and aren't sold individually. I love anything Birria so I had to try theirs. Unfortunately, the Birria is extremely dry, even with the large bowl of consommé included. And about 30% of the tortillas were so hard they were inedible. This plate is $12 - so $4 each - expensive and not justified imo. Definitely wouldn't order again. They offer Aguas Frescas which looked delicious. They also have burritos and other items. They have 3-4 different spits with different types of meat and a large variety of veggies for toppings that all looked fresh. Staff were friendly and helpful - definitely need to list their prices on the menu. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and in a great location with wonderful windows overlooking the main part of Old Town Monrovia. Parking is either street parking or in one of the numerous public lots nearby - not usually an issue unless you come during the Friday night farmers market. There was a bit of the stringy texture to parts (it's normal, I just have a texture thing with it) and my partner still loved it! Was a little on the pricier end for what it was, but it was good! We were glad to get it -tacos carne asada: tender meat, flavor full! I really liked the tortillas! -tacos lengua: yuuuum. Even with the slight stringy texture (on parts), it was delicious! Wish I got more lengua -tacos pastor: sooo full of flavor! Meat was also tender and good! Not too sure why El Diablo has only three stars but after being tempted by their $5 fish special, I'd definitely like to support the business with more positive reviews. Ok I haven't given 5 stars as I haven't been here often enough to support 5 stars. However, I really loved the welcome from the service staff, and the hot displays they have on offer. One thing that is unique about El Diablo is their Kebab-like meat spinners which really grab the eye when you're surveying the counter. I took a sample of the lamb on offer and it was delicious! Not too mention there's plenty to get excited about with the array offerings including fresh Mexican drinks. The restaurant space is very well designed with an overhead menu which is eye catching. While you're there try the homemade Salsa which has a real kick and don't be too worried about asking for a meat sampler from the spinner!! read more
