It's great when restaurants use skirt steak for their asada. El Canton De La Patrona gives you a generous portion with excellent beans and rice. Their hand made tortillas are delicious and come out piping hot. When I saw the plate, I assumed that it would be a 5 star meal. Everything looked so perfect. I've actually had to give it some thought and concluded that I would have to rate it 4 stars because of how chewy the meat was. I found myself having to work very hard to finish the last few bites. The asada was medium rare and that might be undercooked for a cut like skirt steak. I'll be back to try their ribeye, which would be perfect medium rare. read more

Long overdue review update - Glad to see El Canton still going strong!! We've enjoyed everything here over the years and all my sentiments in my previous review still stand. On our most recent visit we both tried something new! Hubby loved his Huevos con Chorizo (comes with choice of tortilla) - and I thoroughly enjoyed my Crispy Shrimp Enchiladas. They have a generous amount of plump tasty shrimp inside and come covered in a delectable mild red sauce. Would get both of these dishes again! They also offer a weekend brunch buffet that seems extensive - lots of variety of dishes and accompaniments as well as a large omelette station outside on their patio. The only reason we didn't try it is bc it's a tad expensive and we didn't think we could eat enough to justify the cost lol! Service is always excellent - attentive and friendly - and the vibes are super chill - relaxing sports bar ambiance and always clean. I'm an AGM at 3 revenue centers in Temecula, and I would scoop her up as an employee in a heart beat. Instead of genuine accountability, it reads like an owner having a temper tantrum using ChatGPT to defend overpriced food with no flavor! Also noticed almost every bad review gets an oddly defensive or aggressive response. I was not harsh, I was actually honest! Those servers are amazing do not forget about the good parts I mentioned! My waitress was kind and very attentive. She even thanked me for the yelp review! Bad food is bad food. Saying "different palettes" or "many guests enjoy it" doesn't change the fact that the Pescado al Limón was NOT good. And nothing about that watery lemon soup passing as "sauce" felt authentic to Mexican cuisine. We had a fantastic dinner here. The whole family enjoyed it. Food was flavorful and beautifully served. We had the steak fajita and carnitas del chef. The tomato wine reduction of the sizzling plate of fajita was amazing. The pieces of carnitas were clean cut and crispy on the outside. The corn and flour tortillas tasted freshly made and came out piping hot. We were served warm chips and salsa when we sat down, and they refilled it for us. Great service! I have ordered food from here 2x via DoorDash with no complaints but today was the first time I dined in. Came in on a Sunday late afternoon and it wasn't too busy inside. I believe her name was Catia or something like that, idk she was mainly behind the bar, but was very friendly, she made me feel like I had come home to my aunts house and she was treating us as family so that was very nice. The queso dish as N appetizer was delicious, the chorizo it had on top was cooked to perfection. The carne asada place was very delicious. The meat was very tender, cooked the way we asked for it. And the chile relleno had carne asada in it so it was to die for. I usually start with the beans and rice, because of those aren't good you know the rest of the food will be crap. So happy that they were delicious. Authentic, you can tell they didn't come from a can. So my compliments to the chef. They had very cute coat racks next to every table which I thought was adorable and handy. For the restaurant being pretty busy it wasn't overwhelming. The noise level was tolerable. And the buffet I hear was decently priced. I saw that they had mimosa flights, I didn't partake but I saw them being made. They looked tasty. All in all a great experience. From pinto beans to enchiladas, chiles rellenos, rajas con crema, ceviches omelets and all that Mexican stuff I mean come on. What else could you ask for?. They even got a guy outside making them omelets and chilaquiles. From the buffet the birria and aguachiles definitely took the spotlight tho! Birria hella tender and tasty. Brought my family here yesterday and this place NEVER disappoints. The food is amazing and fresh. They have homemade tortillas flour and corn. They tasted great. We drive from LA which is almost an hour drive and it is totally worth it. The staff is super nice and super attentive. The meat had lots of skin, every bite felt rubbery and no flavor, it was not marinated. Also the "salsa" was very watery. I mentioned it to our server but he did not seam to care or did nothing about it. I have had this plate in many places before and it has always been clean. We made an order over the phone for pick up. We ordered: La Patrona Ceviche, $16.95 prior to tax- The ceviche was fresh and refreshing. This order also came with 3 tostadas. The ceviche is made with shrimp, cucumbers, avocados, red onions and tomatoes. I wished I had a few more tostadas. Burrito, $15.95 prior to tax- My husband got the asada burrito, which was packed with rice, beans and lettuce. Cheese and guacamole are also in the burrito. A side of chips are served along side the burrito. This entree was very filling, which my husband ate over 2 meals. 3 item combo, Trio Perfecto, $16.95 prior to tax- For this meal combo, I picked sopes, tamale and soft taco. This meal was also served with a side of rice and beans. My mom enjoyed the tamale and soft taco. We both also enjoyed the rice and beans and I liked the sopes. The 3 item combo is a good portion for one, although a fair amount for 2 to share (for a small dinner). ----------------------------- (Total= $54.96 after tax) Please note that there is a small discount if paying with cash. I Changed to dos XX, the manager was pouring obviously didn't know how to pour. Again horrible and flat. I gave her advice on pouring and she said they just changed the gas line, please tell me what gas lines had to do with the beer lines? I mentioned CO2 levels and she was very rude to me. Never checked on me instead talking to the employee. Oh and wine based alcohol too. Completely false advertisement with their signs. I will not go back and I do not recommend the food, drinks and the service. It's pretty sad to feel Taco Bell is more Mexican than this place. My friend and I recently stopped by for lunch. The inside is spacious and was nicely decorated for the holidays. The waitress was attentive and sat us down after we walked in. We were given menus. They have a variety of different options. We decided to share the Molcajete La Patrona. We were so glad we decided to order it because it was so flavorful and delicious. It came with carne asada, pollo, chorizo, nopal, queso panela, salsa, cebollitas, y chiles asados. On a separate plate came the rice, beans, and guacamole. It also came with tortillas, which we got half handmade corn tortillas for me and flour tortillas for them. I made myself 3 tacos with the tortillas with a little bit of everything. My favorite meat was the chorizo. It was flavorful and did not taste greasy. The tortillas were on the smaller side but soft and tasty.
