THE HORROR!!!! (exaggerated sarcasm) I am no longer a fan of Taco Ensenada! Around 3 weeks ago I went in to order some tacos and a burrito. I was looking and looking for my favorite buche, tripa and cabeza meats on the menu; but, these meats were no where to be found. So I asked the cashier where are these meats, which she replied, "we no longer offer those meats". I was shocked and adruptly turned around a left. Of coarse, this was not the only reason for my final decision to end my relationship with Taco Ensenada. They've been raising their menu prices a little too much in recent years. To a lesser extent, what Mexican resturant offers sushi rolls?! Stay in your lane! Customers don't patronize a Mexican restaurant to get Japanese food. This is a great place for lunch or dinner. Fish tacos are solid. The Govenador taco is one of my favorites. Queso Birria are on point and the Cheese Quesaddilla is the best I've ever had. I know how that sounds but it is. Salsa roja is good as well. Staff is friendly. Vibe feels like a Mexican Taqueria with costal influence. The food was decent. My tacos de pescado would have been really good, but I kept wondering whether the hard pieces in the tortilla were actually part of the tortilla or plastic, which made it hard to enjoy my meal. The service was okay. My grandma never received the tortillas she originally ordered with her meal, and when we mentioned it, the server spent quite a bit of time questioning the staff in Spanish before finally saying they would bring them out. I would have preferred a simple, "Okay, we'll get those right out," instead of feeling like our request was being questioned. read more

Came in for Taco Tuesday and it was a hit ! The fish tacos and the shrimp tacos are amazing! They are loaded with flavorful pico de gallo, crema and salsa roja. The next time around I came in for the taco place with rice and beans. The beans were so moist and delicious. Horchata was so flavorful and refreshing after the spicy kick of the salsa. I added some of their onions they have on the side and bit onto their chile toreado and it was off the chain! so delicious ! Parking can get a little busy on taco Tuesday but there's street parking as well., so go for the walk, and make room for another taco, It'll be worth it. I'm back with another review for Taco Ensenada in Duarte! This time, I ordered take-out and had the chance to try a few menu items I hadn't had before. Even though it wasn't Taco Tuesday or Thursday, the prices were still very reasonable--I got 8 tacos and a tostada de ceviche for about $35 total, which is a great deal for the portion sizes. Taco de Pastor: The flavor was bold and strong, maybe a little too heavy on the spices, but still incredibly delicious. The portion of protein was generous, so much so that I ended up mixing the meat with rice at home, and it was perfect! Tostada de 3 Ceviche: This time, I had it as take-out which comes in a different format than if I were to have it in the restaurant. It comes served in a drink cup with three tostadas, which I actually prefer. In the non-takeout version, the bottom tostada gets soggy, and you only get two tostadas. This way, you can build each tostada without the sogginess, and the portion was just right. Taco de Asada: The amount of meat in this taco was impressive. I had been feeling a bit of an iron deficiency, and this taco alone gave me a noticeable boost--super hearty and satisfying! Fish Tacos: Always a solid choice here, and still my favorite. Light, flavorful, and a must-have whenever I order from Taco Ensenada. The service was quick and efficient, just as I remember it from my previous visits. The atmosphere hasn't changed much, but I did notice a small upgrade--they added black cushions to the seating area in the back. My son was craving tacos so we came here. It's a very spacious space with lots of tables so there's no shortage of seating. We ordered tacos dorado pollo ($3.99), taco de asada ($3.25) and when we saw they sold sushi (so random!), we had to try their version of a California roll ($14.99). Everything was good, even the California roll! It was unlike any CA Roll I've had before since it contained shrimp and cream cheese, but it wasn't bad. One of the best carne asada meats in the area and is one of the places I will always go to when I'm craving for tacos. My significant other has been coming here since he was in high school (15 years ago) and when we moved back to the area this past year it's still just as good as he remember it. It's just bigger now since they expanded. Bathrooms are cleaned for the most part and there's an outside sink to wash your hands. There is no baby changing station though. The order taker is always so helpful and the wait time for food is usually about 10 minutes or less. Even when I went today during the lunch rush. We also get their fish tacos on Tuesdays and asada, pastor, chicken or carnitas tacos on Thursdays for their specials. Their nachos are stacked with cheese, beans, sour cream, pico de gallo, and guac. They also sell bottled cokes and desserts like flan. Plus they have onions, lemons, limes and chilies on a chilled cart. Their red and green salsas are addicting. No wonder why they charge 50 cents extra for them. They open until 10pm. There are several locations. We've tried three. Sierra Madre is our favorite. Monrovia is a hit or miss and Duarte is always crowded. If you wanna place to sit with people, you're gonna wanna go to Monrovia or Duarte. Duarte definitely has the most seating. Sierra Madre has outdoor tables so if it's cold, that's something to consider. There's one or two small tables inside, but it is quite small. It's one of my favorite places to go, and I love their avocado tostada. I know it's more of a fish place, but I have yet to try any of the fish.. read more

Came here upon a friend recommendation. Parking was easy as they have a parking lot in the front. When I stepped inside, what stood out to me was that it was very colorful. The restaurant's main colors (orange and green) were plastered throughout the walls. They have a huge menu pasted next to the top of their kitchen. I ordered the fish taco as that was their specialty. It was honestly pretty delicious but the price for tacos is just getting more and more expensive. Wow, worst shrimp nachos ever! I usually order shrimp nachos at this place, and the shrimp is grilled. I never had to specify how they should be made and assumed the shrimp is always grilled. This time, they served it to me with super thick batter! So horrible! This is an authentic hole in the wall of a place for delicious Mexican food! The price to quantity to quality of food is right on point. We routinely buy a ton of food from here when we host the family over for holidays. The burritos are so huge and full of meat that they're easily splittable between 2 adults and both people are guaranteed to be full just on 1/2 of the burrito. The red sauce that comes with the burrito is amazing. My fav thing is probably the ceviche and the bar with all the fixings you can pack up to take home. It's hard to pick a fav ceviche ... prob the shrimp, then crab for me. The aguachile is fireeeee, but I can only tolerate a few bites of it before my mouth is on literal fire lol. Even for my Mexican husband, it's quite hot ... but worth it to us both to be sweating and blowing our noses at the end lol. read more

2 Stars only for the Salsa Fiasco... but honestly, the fish tacos are great. Let's just say the tipping point for me is 1 Salsa for 4 tacos, and if you want extra, they're 50 cents each... I'm not buying it -- I canceled my order and walked out... I am taking a stand; I am not buying salsa when I expect it as part of my meal. Just about to buy 6 fish tacos, a shrimp cocktail, and one soda, all for nearly $40. But then saw a sign that read, 1 Salsa only for 4 fish tacos... the cashier was nice, the girl did offer us 3 salsas as a courtesy, but that's not enough for 6 tacos -- I'm done with the nitpicking on salsa and sauces. And that's $40 they lost out on over salsa. If they cannot figure out how to price food more appropriately to account for customer's taste and requests for salsa, or sauces that some other restaurants now charge for, their days are numbered. BTW - there are still some restaurants that offer free sides and full-open salsa bars, and those are the restaurants I will continue to take my business to. I used to come to this location a lot. But since prices have gone up, I come just a few times over the last few years. But when I used to come, I'd get 3 fish tacos and 2 Roja and 2 Verde hot sauces, and that was a plenty... and let's just say, no salsa was wasted. Today, the place was slightly empty, and by the looks of it, struggling to survive what was once a great fish taco restaurant. But if salsa is their tipping point, I am not sure how they're gonna survive. When restaurants start charging extra for sauces or salsa when they were complimentary before but now charge a fee for extras, I'm done with them. Here's what I am suggesting; not for people to enjoy eating at Tacos Ensenada but for Tacos Ensenada to change this policy only... salsa is a given; not everyone wants it but for those who do, don't charge extra for the few extras people want. Most people, I will assume, only want one or two salsas for 2 or three fish tacos, I want 4: 2 green and 2 red. But if I am only allowed 1 salsa for 3 fish tacos, I am not going to do business here. I know Tacos Ensenada can do better and still make money. It is a good place to eat at; the fish tacos are really good, and I'd love to come back, but not until they change this policy. Good food and prices exit close to the freeway. The service was quick and it was easy to place order. It was not super busy when we came here everyone was friendly. I got three tacos and I love the fact that they have pickled onions and peppers on the side. The chips tasted a bit stale and no salsa was available one of my must haves! I came here for lunch during one weekend and ordered 1 shrimp and 1 fish tacos. Both was very good tacos and the fried fish was not oily at all. My hubby got the fish and shrimp burrito. It tasted pretty good but very mushy. I like the shrimp taste, but the fish was very mushy in the burrito. There are lime, peppers, and onions on the side that you can grab yourself.
