    Sirloin and Chorizo Tacos.
    David N.

I'll never say no to a taco, so when the opportunity arose to check out Taqueria el Pastorcito, I was more than excited to check it out. We showed up shortly after they opened on a recent Saturday, and the place was already half full. I decided to keep it simple by grabbing the Sirloin and Chorizo tacos, which come with an assortment of sauces and a bowl full of lime segments. They arrived about twenty minutes later and holy moly are they delicious. They've both got this rich, irresistible meaty flavor, and they're taken completely over the top with the liberal application of those various sauces. (All of which are absolutely incredible, by the way.) I also tried the Pastor Burrito and it is, no surprise, amazing. I've never had a burrito that's basically just meat but it totally works. And then you add some sauce or the included sautéed onions and you've got a delectable concoction. I don't think it's a stretch to label Taqueria el Pastorcito one of the best Mexican joints in the city. I'll definitely be back.

I was really pumped to try this place given the reviews and how busy this place gets, but my experience was so-so. The service was prompt and very friendly. I loved the generosity with the onions and cilantro and the various salsas. The tacos were good, but not outstanding on this visit. I had a pastor, a sirloin ($5 each) and a lengua ($7). The tacos were definitely ample. Eachj had two tortillas. The bigger issue for me was that the meat didn't feel fresh off the grill - heat-wise - and neither did the tortillas. I want a taco I can barely pick up, it's burning my fingers. For me, that's what makes a taco go from just okay to superb. I visited near lunchtime and it wasn't totally bustling - maybe the taco meats and tortillas are given that critical time on the grill during the evening hours when it's really busy and tacos are flying. Anyway, I felt it was a bit lacklustre but maybe I'll give it another go sometime because it's definitely popular.

Had read about this place and decided to check it out When almost everyone in the place is speaking Spanish, you know you're in a good place! Tacos are $5 each and come with a variety of condiments. The pineapple salsa is very hot!! And so was the red sauce. But we thought the pineapple would be less spicy and my friend piled it on high! Luckily she had a a horchata to drink to cool her mouth off lol I got a steak and chorizo taco. They also have flan and tres leches cake. We got the flan (sorry forgot to take a photo) she liked it a lot. Definitely want to come back. My friend had the pastor and chorizo. She liked the pastor more than the chorizo. Im not as experienced taco eater so it just tasted good to me lol

I very much enjoyed my visit. As soon as I entered, the rich Mexican aromas and a live duo playing vibrant tunes welcomed me. The seating felt tight, but the buzz and warm vibe made it easy to overlook. Right away, I fell for their complimentary platter of scratch-made salsas. We're talking lime wedges, grilled onions and jalapeños, habanero salsa, pineapple chunks, and more. The habanero-pineapple combo packed a sweet and spicy punch that woke up my taste buds. Then came the tacos. Each one sat on two sturdy corn tortillas, piled high with fresh onion and cilantro. The Pastor Taco was my favourite--thick, juicy pork slices seasoned perfectly, especially when I added that fiery habanero salsa. The Sirloin Taco had generous chunks of beef, though it leaned a bit tougher in texture. Still, the flavours were on point, and the salsas brought everything together. For a sweet finish, the Horchata was a real charmer: smooth, sweet rice flavour with just a kiss of cinnamon. Service was just as lively as the atmosphere. The staff was attentive, upbeat, and genuinely seemed happy to have us there. Overall, Taqueria el Pastorcito delivers mouthwatering Mexican fare and a fun, festive experience. I'd gladly come back for another round of those stellar tacos, salsas, and Horchata.

The place is a bit small so it can be a bit tight so I would highly recommend having reservations if you have a large group. Tacos: The soft and the crispy tacos were both delicious. The tinga chicken and the beef barbacoa were juicy and full of flavour. The portions was fair, the quality was a standout and tasted quite authentic. Overall, I really had a great experience at Playa Cabana, totally would come here again to try out their other dishes.

When I went to the basement washroom, I swear I saw what looked like the end of a mouse's tail sticking out from under the door. Needless to say, I completely lost my appetite. When the waiter asked how everything was, I told him honestly that it was terrible. I had only taken two bites, and there was really no response. I wouldn't have wanted a replacement anyway after that experience. I also had some fruit bites, and about 10 minutes later my stomach started gurgling. By the time I got home, I felt awful. I was shivering, felt like I was going to throw up, and had to rush to the bathroom. It honestly felt like food poisoning. And I still paid for my meal Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place.

We got lucky and they were able to squeeze us into seats at the bar area, which ended up being the best possible spot because we had a front-row view of the live fire cooking the entire night. The ambiance was lively and hip, with a great energy that made the whole experience feel exciting. This was my first time watching each main courses get cooked over live fire in real time, which added to our amazement given that all the dishes came out cooked to the right doneness. Every bite of meat and seafood was perfectly kissed with flame -- the char, the subtle smoke, the texture. Beyond the fire element, you can really taste how fresh everything is. Nothing felt heavy or muddled. Each dish was well thought out with balanced flavors, but the ingredients and that fire/smoke magic were always the main event. Service was also superb. All the staff were attentive and high-energy. Different servers checked up on us throughout the meal, our water was always kept full, and dishes were cleared in a timely manner. Only drawback: the heat. Sitting by the fire is incredible for the show, but it definitely started to feel like a sauna at times. Still, I'd do it again and choose to sit at the bar without hesitation. If you're in Toronto and you love a tasting menu, this is a must. Just make sure you book at least a month in advance - it's popular for a reason.

Quetzal was recommend by our server when we were dining at a Vancouver Michelin restaurant (Barbara), as our server was originally from Ontario. So of course we saved it on our list for when we visited Toronto. Very very accommodating staff and attentive. All the tables next to us seemed to really enjoy their meals as well. Every dish was amazingly flavoured and presentation was on point. Atmosphere was lovely too, laid back but chic. Comfortable yet elevated. Highlight was the scallops, we asked for it to be included on our set menu, and they delivered. Can't wait to go back!

The inside was nice, it was dark with ambient lighting and decorated with a modern and Mexican theme. The waitress was super nice, and the staff were fairly attentive. We got the chips and guac to start. I do wish they gave a little bit more walk because it came in this really small cup so we had to go light on the guac to chip ratio. But overall the guac was yummy and the chips were very crunchy with a nice seasoning. They have a special every day of the week and Thursdays are there crunch tacos, which are hard shell tacos, wrapped in a soft shell taco with some sauce in between, and you can choose between their chorizo or chicken. We got one of each. I liked the chicken more but my partner liked the Chorizo. And all the toppings the perfect Fixin's. When we left the place was still at 40% capacity, maybe. Would not recommend.
