Dinner I had 3 tacos they were out of carnitas every time but the asada and barbacoa are awesome. I got mine with flour shells instead of standard soft corn shell. The tacos are dressed with cilantro and onions and served with 2 types of salsa in squeeze bottles green is medium reddish is hot. The sauces definitely accent the flavor or the tacos! The food was some of the best we've had this side of New Mexico. If you like handmade corn tortillas, seriously consider the Gorditas -- basically a variation on the great Salvadoran Pupusa. But it was all good. The service was spotty but friendly. Maybe they were understaffed? Plus we sat 20 minutes waiting on our bill because no one mentioned we needed to go to the register para pagar. The lighting is too bright in the dining room. It made the clean and festive looking place feel more like a fast food joint. Dimmers maybe? The other sore point was the margarita that had no price on the menu, but that came in at $9.95. it tasted good. Lived in Marshfield for a few years and had the opportunity to return. Found Taqueria El Sol and gave it a go. Pleasantly surprised. Firstly kudos for the homemade Horchata!!!! Thank you for sticking to the real thing - not a mix out of a package. The decor is fun and bright. What's not to love about yellow suns staring out at you from every seat. The service was chaotic, but it all worked out. My carnitas were a bit overfried and the beans should have been cooked down to make them more thick, but flavors were all good. This is the most disappointing and disgusting experience I've ever had. Where is it okay to substitute meal when vegetarian soya was ordered. I have eaten there many times and always ordered vegetarian. Did they think I would not notice the difference. That was very disrespectful to me. Asking me if I am allergic is not the issue. The server asked if he should take it off my bill......no I don't eat meat, you served me meat...do you want me to pay for that. Was not impressed. Started with a margarita that had great presentation but that's where it ended. The waitress was equal parts attentive as immature. A lot of 'no problems', which just ticks me off. I ordered the steak fajitas. The food came out fast and hot. What it lacked was imagination. Everything was either very bland or very salty. Even the pre-meal chips and salsa were lackluster. The ambiance is nice, sunny, bright and relaxed. The tables are very clean. Chips and salsa (free) came right out and were fresh and tasty. Menu is diverse and they even serve posole (on week ends). Lots of Mexican and domestic beers in bottles from whence to choose, as well as Mexican soft drinks. My mixed fajitas were tasty and well cooked, and the price was reasonable. We came here expecting some good food. We get in and right off the bat it looks sketchy. He takes us back to our tables and it smells like rotten food. We get our chips and order queso but the waitress kept forgetting to bring it to us. She was slightly rude and kept forgetting things, she never wrote anything down. Surprised to see some menu items (like the huarache, al pastor meat, real horchata) one does not normally see in areas of the country where authentic Mexican are few and far in between. I really liked Ana, the owner. She's sweet and courteous to customers. I tried this place last Sunday while I am here for work. The food was so good that I went back on Thursday to get the same meal. The food appears to all be authentic Mexican, not Americanized Mexican. It makes sense that some people are unhappy because they are probably wanting Americanized food. To me, the food exceeded my expectations. Coming from an area with a lot of authentic Mexican food, I consider my expectations to be pretty high. As a general rule, the place needs to be run by people who truly know the cuisine and I want to see customers from that ethnicity eating there. This place was it. To make it even better, there was no wait for a table on Sunday and the service was fast. On Thursday, Rosa took my order and had my meal waiting for me to pick it up by time I drove across town.
