Probably one of the most authentic restaurants in Marshfield. It fills the hole that El Jalapeno has left behind. Their salsa tastes very fresh and the chips are home-made. Me and my guest came in after 6:00pm on May 18, 2014. When we arrived at the restaurant, we noticed the parking area is very small and some cars were parked along the street. We came inside the restaurant and noticed they do take credit cards for payment, and how quiet everything was. We went to the counter and waited for to be seated. We noticed the color inside was tan, green, and dark burgundy. The tables are very nice structure and design with wooden chairs. There is lots of windows in front, but 1 window in the back along the side with no window in the 3rd room. Ceiing lighting was in control where window did not provide the light. We were given a waitress right away and she sat us in the front. We looked at our menu and it was written in both Spanish and English. We had to call our waittress to come to our table to give our order. She understood little English. I used both languages to accommodate her understanding. We ordered the Buritto Dinner served with refried beans and spanish rice for $8.99. We were given tortilas with salsa. I was also served my soda Pinapple soda and my guest had Budwieser after pointing it out to the waitrress of the beer. While we waited, we observed how clean the restaurant looks, and then noticed no music to set the scene, no tv to watch, it was all quiet and we waited over 15 to 20 minutes for our dinner, which took way too long due to there weren't that many people in the restaurant. During our wait, we were greeted by the owner and he was very nice and checking to see how we like the new restaurant. When we received our plates, they were neatly organized with the burritos split in half, the rice was on one side and the refried beans was on the other side. Beautifully set, and everything looked cooked. When I started tasting it, the refried beans and the rice were warm not hot. Then when I tried the burrito, it was hot but, very bland and I told the waitrress everything on it, I seen very little tomatoes, mostly lettuce and beef, and slight sour cream. When my guest had his dinner, he noticed no fork in his silverware and I had no spoon. Hmm, we had them corrected. His burritos was a lot of diced tomatoes, beef, lettuce, and very little sour cream. I could not taste much of the flavor inside the burrito due to very little items. Here is how a burrito should look: Sour cream for base, refried beans, choice of meat, lettuce, tomato wedges not diced, and cheese. This restaurant did not equal to that. Whlle we ate, the waitress was very slow and did not come to us and asked how is our food. We had to ask the owner to give my guest a hot sauce. I had to go to the register to get my bill where they did not come to us to give us the bill. This restaurant needs a lot of work with customer service when it comes to the tables, and they need to work more on their food to put in more flavor and less bland. The trick in mexican cuisine is top service with the customers, flavor is a must to every dish and seeing their logo on their card: The Flavor of Mexican Foods, it has to be top notch and it did not meet there. We have been going to this restaurant since it opened. This is real Mexican food. It is not TexMex. The food is cooked from scratch and not prepackaged food that is microwaved. The place is clean, the staff is very friendly. Like any new place the first week or so things did not run as smoothly as they do now. The tacos are the best I have eaten and I have eaten in Mexican restaurants from here to Tucson. The tamales which are only available on the weekend are also the best. They have lots of tasty filling with not an excess of corn meal. Chili Rellanos are difficult to do well but theirs are first class. We have not had a burrito but the enchiladas are also good. The place has become very popular and parking can be a problem. This restaurant is a very welcome addition to what is a somewhat bleak restaurant scene in Marshfield. read more

Mexican cuisine in Wisconsin. I was fooled by the rating on yelp. The service was slow. The waitress was untrained. The food was aweful. The presentation terrible. I gave it one star because rhe modelo negro was cold. Avoid this place. The food was awful. I have had some excellent mexican cuisine in Wisconsin, especially in the Milwaukee area which has a huge Mexican-American population and some very good Mexican restaurants. Taqueria el Sol was tremendously disappointing. The food came out so fast that i have to assume it was not made fresh to order. There was a sad cheese enchilada in the center of the plate that lacked any flavor. The cheese wasn't even completely melted. My wife had taco de camaron...the shrimp has no spices. It look inedible to me, but then again shrimp in the midwest...i always try to steer her away. I had Carne a la tampiquena. It was tasteless. Even the avocado couldnt help it. Worst Mexican food ever! Chips were good, but the salsa is tasteless, so I ordered the cheese dip, it taste okay but it's hard to dip because the cheese didn't melted all the way. And it cost $3.99 just for the dip. I also ordered the three taco dinner,: So disappointed! The rice and the beans were cold and there's no cheese on top of the beans. I have to mention that my family is a returning customer from Taqueria El Sol. We have eaten there a bunch of times and we will continue doing it. We love a lot of things from this restaurant, it is really clean, nice decoration, music and family enviroment, the owner is always there to take care of details, you receive complimentary chips and salsa. Their prices are reasonable. Talking about the food is made from scratch and they have the taste of traditional Mexican food. They offered dishes to please those who like Mexican food on the Tex Mex side or those who want to try authentic Mexican food as well. Fajitas and burritos are excellent, and if you want to try a Mexican dessert you should try the Flan. On the traditional side they have the best Menudo that I have eaten. Talking about Tacos you can buy it by the piece or try the Taco Dinner. They have a huge variety of meats to choose from, I have eaten all of them from beef to tongue Tacos and I like all of them. Attached to the Restaurant you can find their Mexican store, there you can buy ingredients for Mexican dishes that you won't find in a supermarket. This is probably the worst restaurant I've ever been to, they didn't write anything down and forgot to bring something back that we asked for. The waiters were also very rude. When we were done we wanted to pay with the card but she kept pressing the enter key and the card kept getting declined and I know that there was money on the card so we had to pay with cash. Very nice place. We stopped in for lunch today. Hubby got chicken enchiladas and I got chili relino. Both very good. Price was very reasonable. I would have given it 5 stars but our chips weren't the best. Some fresh, some stale. Salsa was great and their green chile sauce was excellent. We will definitely eat here again. read more

I have been fortunate enough to work just down the road from Taqueria El Sol - an unmatched, authentic Mexican restaurant. It only took one visit for me to get hooked and I have been back multiple times since. Before my visit, I was expecting similar food to the other popular, yet not very authentic, Mexican restaurant in Marshfield. If you are curious about what authentic Mexican food tastes like, take a trip to Taqueria El Sol. Everything is extremely fresh. You can watch them prepare the food in the kitchen and instead of using pre-made batches of ingredients, you can see them hand chop fresh tomatoes and onions and peppers for your order. Lime juice is freshly squeezed. The various types of meats they use are perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The flavor profiles are distinct, vivid and satisfying. I implore you to try it out because I believe that anything this amazing should be shared with as many people as possible. I've had the privilege of traveling across the country and have visited many Mexican restaurants, but none as good as this. It was worth the detour on our way home from the cabin to stop at this place. Friendly staff, clean restaurant and good food. We ordered guacamole and it was freshly made. We also ordered Carne Asad a tacos and chicken enchiladas. The tacos were reminiscent of street tacos and very good. The enchiladas were lightly covered in green sauce and equally as good. The restaurant has been open for a while now - so my family decided to give it whirl. Food was good - definitely more on the authentic side which was a nice change of pace. Service was "ok". The server kept apologizing and saying that she was new - she never asked what kind of meat we wanted for anything or add-ons, so she had to keep coming back to our table to ask multiple questions (which I would rather have them ask than not) - then the manager came out a few times to ask questions too. After food was delivered by the manager, we didn't see our server again until the check came. We just chalked it up to the fact that she was new. Avoid this place at all cost! Found a 6" long black hair in the salsa. Dipped in and it was hanging off the chip... Server witnessed and never mentioned. The overpriced margaritas were bland and out of a bottle. Ordered the mixed fajitas. When the plate of beans rice and sour cream was brought to the table, there was another hair in plain site. Server took it back to the kitchen immediately and replaced it. Fajitas were mediocre. Service was exceptionally slow and as we were about finished we found another hair in the sour cream. We were done eating at that point. Only apology was a "I'm sorry" muttered by the server as he took the plate back. Not a penny taken off our bill after the hair was pointed out. Paid $25 for fajitas and a margarita, which is completely over priced for the quantity and quality. Save yourself some money, taco bell would be better. read more

Completely disappointing. Everything started well. I love chorizo and they offer it in just about everything. But when the food came, it wasn't exactly as described/pictured. My taco salad came with a giant gob of beans in the bottom, which weren't listed on the menu as an ingredient or I would have asked for it without. My partner's huarache looked like fry bread on the menu, but arrived on a masa-like crust. Again, no mention of masa on the menu. Worse, the "dinners" were stingy in portion, especially compared with other Mexican establishments past and present in Marshfield. So my taco salad was even less satisfying after I ditched the portion spoiled by beans. If it weren't for receiving a second bowl of chips and salsa, we would have left hungry. read more

Not impressed. We arrived for lunch and it was difficult to find a clean table. My husband ordered a Mountain Dew and was served carbonated water which we ended up paying 1.79 for. The food came out very promptly but the taco shells tasted like they just came out of the deep fryer. The refried beans seemed really runny but the rice tasted o.k. The service at this restaurant is the best we've ever had! Our hostess Gwen was an absolute pleasure. After she seated us, the waiter seemed to keep walking past us. After looking at the menus and deciding what to eat and we still had not ordered drinks, I got up and asked Gwen if we had a waiter. Apparently our waiter had mistakenly thought we had already been helped. Well let me tell you, Gwen and the manager went over and above to apologize and make it right. She took our order right away, we got our drinks right away, free of charge, a free order of guacamole, and our food came out of the kitchen piping hot within minutes. The manager served us himself with a personal apology and both made sure everything was to our satisfaction, which it absolutely was. We had the chicken enchiladas with the verde sauce and the chicken de Sol burrito and they were both very good, including the beans and rice on the side. The restaurant itself is bright and clean and spacious. This restaurant has it all...great food, great ambiance, extremely affordable prices and best of all, great service! Of the two Mexican style restaurants in Marshfield that I have tried, this one came as a pleasant surprise. I noticed when we came in that there were several tables of folks of Latino origin. This speaks volumes for authenticity. Clean, quiet, no blaring Mexican music (which is a big annoying downfall for the other one). We could actually comfortably talk to each other in normal tones. The menu was also surprising, lots to chose from. The waiter was prompt, courteous, and knew his menu as we had several questions, all answered to our satisfaction. The food was excellent, and plentiful. Not overly or underly spiced. The free salsa was admittedly bland and not the best, but passable. The steak entree I had was tasty, tender, juicy and served hot. And a real steak not just skinny tough strips of questionable provenance. The sides were good. It was reasonable pricing on a par or maybe a little less than the competition. Would make a nice family stop. All in all this is the Mexican place I will be going back to in Marshfield. read more
