We are regulars at this location, well, maybe I should say we WERE regulars here. Arriving shortly after opening, my husband texted me to say that the chicken quesadilla I requested wouldn't be ready for 15-20 mins since the chicken wasn't ready. He ordered a menudo and waited for the order. They brought the quesadilla and when he realized the menudo was missing, he was forced to wait back in line behind 4 other people. He wanted his money back, rather to have to wait again but the cashier refused so he had to reorder the menudo. The cashier refused to expedite his order, saying that they work the tickets in order. What kitchen does this? He was already waiting 20 minutes! So while he waited for his menudo, my meal was just sitting there. When he arrived home, my fries were cold, the quesadilla was greasy, and everything was heavily coated in seasoned salt, something that they did not used to do. He waited 40 minutes for food that wasn't even good. The whole experience was such a disappointment that we will no longer patronize Taquería Garcias. read more

This food was terrible. I ordered 2 Potato Breakfast Tacos and a Chicken Taco. The chicken was terrible, I tasted a piece of the chicken and couldn't even bring myself to eat the taco. The Potato breakfast tacos were terrible too. The eggs were dry and overcooked, the potatoes are half cooked French fries, and the cheese was sour. The tortillas taste like Kroger brand. I ate some of them because I was so hungry, but I didn't escape regret afterwards. This is probably the worst Mexican food restaurant I've ever had. Obviously, I do not recommend. read more

Nothing says "authentic North Texas" like gas-station tacos, so after spending a small fortune on dog food and treats at the nearby Petco yesterday, I decided to drive south in search of a spicy chicken sandwich from a certain national restaurant chain. But before I could make it there, I spotted the sign for Taqueria Garcia's, put on my blinker, got over one lane, and left tire marks on Plano Road when I pulled in to park. Bottom line: If this is your neighborhood or you work nearby, this taco stand should be on your radar. I admit that I went in expecting an experience similar to the one I get south of Henderson Street in Dallas, but no one spoke to me in Spanish. It was a late Saturday afternoon, yet a few patrons were occupying the metal tables inside the Chevron. That's always a good sign. The menu is above the cash register and they accept cash or cards. All I wanted were tacos and there are quite a few options to choose from. When I spotted the 3-taco birria plate for $10.50, which comes with a side of beans and rice, I decided to try it. I was not disappointed! I took mine to go and they were just as greasy and flavor-packed as I anticipated. The best part? The picante sauce, which is a blended tomato-based sauce that was so good that I poured the leftover into the rice and beans. Yum! Despite the sign on the door that says masks required, I was the only one wearing a mask inside, including the employees. Unlike Valeria below, I did not see any rats, but honestly, I would go back despite her warning. Notably and unrelated, while I was waiting for my tacos, I decided to get in the convenient-store cashier line to buy a fountain drink and check out how much the Power Ball jackpot was. There was only one cashier working and the line seemed to be moving slowly. Finally it was my turn and when I asked to buy a lottery ticket, the cashier laughed and went into a long tirade about how he used to go in with his coworkers on tickets but that it's a waste of money, even lifting his leg like a dog, saying that's what is being done with the money. He almost refused to sell me a ticket! Then he talked about how the gas-station owner has several other stores, told me his cousin has a store in New Jersey and they have had some lotto winners, then he moved on to talking about his accomplished adult children and how he's looking to retire and travel soon--all this while the checkout line behind me has tripled in size! It's Texas, so I was polite and obliging, but oh my stars, just sell me a ticket and a soda for heaven's sake! Finally, he relented and gave me the ticket but somehow forgot the soda. I had my wallet open and was holding a buck and coins. He said, just give me the dollar. Less than one minute later, I knew why: the soda fountain didn't have any soda! I went to get Dr. Pepper, but it came out clear. When I asked a taco-stand employee if she knew whether there was more, she yelled at the chatty cashier who said no. This place is sketchy and non descriptive from the outside, yet contains a hidden gem of delicious tacos on the inside. Damn good trompo! Although the edges may not be super crispy, the marinade is a lovely enhancement to the meat. The meat itself is moist, with no piece ever dry. They give you a hefty serving as well. I like that its hunks of meat instead of grounded bits. The barbacoa is a great balance between moisture and structure. I can feel and taste the meat itself, while the fat and water simply uplifted the solid structure. Most of the time it can lean between super wet, or too lean. This was the best of best worlds, with no compromise to flavor. My hat goes off for this. The lengua was tender, while not chewy. It also had the right amount of moisture. I think the carnitas were the crumbled bits, and that was dissapointing in my book. It still had a fairly good meat flavor, but the texture was a little dry in some pieces. The chicaronnes were super wet. I prefer mine to be crispy, but I will say I actually could taste the pig in this. So it may have been the most fresh tasting, wet chicharonnes Ive had. The cabeza was like the fatty parts of the barbacoa to the max. Each bite was a greasy pleasure that made me wish there was a little more meat than fat. I have a feeling if I combined the cabeza and babacoa together, that would make a great burrito. The green sauce feels like pure cream and jalapeno. Although not super spicy, I kept coming back for more. The red sauce feelt like pureed red peppers with some heat thrown in the mix. Although the body wasn't complex, it felt fresh and the heat gave me some slight heartburn in the process. They don't use anything special for the tortillas. They get the job done, but I feel they could throw little more grease on the grittle. Otherwise, they are a decent vessel for these magnificent meats. read more

I don't know if it's because I ordered through GrubHub or if I would get the same in the restaurant, but my meal was just OK. I didn't receive any red salsa with the tacos, which was pretty disappointing. Also, I ordered a burrito through the app, and it only let me choose between "fajita," "trompo" and something else. I chose "fajita" and I was hoping for chicken or steak with fajita peppers and onions. I asked for no tomatoes, no cheese, and no sour cream. The burrito had very low quality beef, with rice and beans, and that's it! No lettuce, no onions, and no salsa. It was almost inedible, but that may be my fault for trying to modify it so much. It was wrapped in foil, and the foil had been cut in half, leaving small aluminum fragments in the burrito. I don't know about you, but I don't like to eat any excess aluminum, as it's a major toxin linked to neuro problems. Anyways, I liked the trompo (who doesn't?!... that stuff is so flavorful and addicting), and the chicken was pretty good. I'd pass on the barbacoa in the future. read more

I've been on the hunt for a great breakfast burrito and this place didn't let me down. They are pretty good size and have good taste. The salsa is spicy and they also give you grilled onions and a grilled pepper. One of the best Tacos I've have in my entire experience of Tacos, customer service always amazing, they don't speak much English but always are patient with me trying to explain what I specifically want in the orders. I called to order nachos since online they were only $8.50 after calling I was told they are actually nearly $11 and they no longer serve guacamole, they only have pork and steak. I could barely understand the person. Once they had given the phone to someone who was a little more fluent in English they told me they actually have shredded chicken , fajita steak, shrimp , or ground beef. I placed an order and didn't receive the beans she told me would come on them and got a plate full of grissel! They were half the size of golf balls which could've easily been removed . I absolutely hate to get spoon fulls of grissel I will literally throw away the whole plate . The food tasted good, but if I would've know I wouldn't have gotten any meat I could've just gotten beans and cheese nachos . The best trompo tacos in the area. This is my go to for trompo tacos, and it doesn't hurt that they have a special going on that if you buy 25 tacos you get 5 free!! Not overly greasy or dry. They are always served hot and yummy. And of course what is a taco spot without some great salsa! Taqueria Garcia's is in a corner store (heads up). I called in my order for 6 breakfast tacos (bacon potato and egg) the total was around $9 they said it would be ready within 5 minutes. I got there in about 10 minutes and the food was ready and bagged up. The tacos were a little smaller than I would have liked almost like street taco sized maybe a tiny bit bigger but were really good. The guys working were nice. I'll be back if I'm in the area and want some breakfast tacos. read more

I stopped at this Chevron on my way to Dallas, but I only got one taco because I was skeptical about a taco from a gas station... however, my one taco was so good that I went back the next day and got a whole platter! This isn't your regular, sketchy gas station food. This is a REAL taqueria. I got my platter with one trompo (pork) taco, two fajita (beef) tacos, rice, and beans. Everything tastes amazing. Garcia's specialty is the trompo tacos (they have an actual spit!), but the fajita ones are just as good. I haven't tried the other meats but I'm sure they're good as well! Your tacos come with raw onions, cilantro, limes, and caramelized onions on the side. The caramelized onions are a true game changer. Combined with the marinated meat, the caramelized onions on the tacos make for a truly heavenly tastebud experience. You MUST drop by here if you are passing through Garland. This is the place to get tacos; that is all that needs to be said. It looks super sketch when you are just driving by or building up the courage to go in and give it a try. It is worth it, no mater how nervous you might be when it comes to walking into a corner gas station, this place is the grail of tacos. The price is just right and the taste and smell are just...I got into my car 4 hours after transporting lunch home and could still smell the wonderful aroma which just made me smile. If you are even slightly hungry and in the area you absolutely deserve to treat yourself to this place, every bite is a comforting adventure in flavor.
