I'm not one to leave negative reviews but when it comes to bugs I HAVE to let others know. My husband and I pass this restaurant often and decided to order food for the first time yesterday. Upon opening our bag and making sure all of our food is there I noticed something on the outside container of beans I ordered. A leg. ‍ A f*&#ing roach leg !! I know it when I see it. I went pass them today and I saw that I love their place! Why is it close? I love their chicken taco dinner. It was also my go to.

I love this spot ! I been here twice and both times the food is been great. Very attentive , the waitress coming back to check on us at the exact time. We sat all the way to the back, because we didn't wan to bother anyone with us been loud. I had the pozole and the flavor was great. I needed to be more spicy and she brought Chile in a jar. Before today, I last came here about 8 years ago. Though I was not very fond of it then, I decided to give it another chance to see if there was any improvement. Especially since they may have changed ownership since the last time I was here. I could be wrong, who knows? I don't pay attention to a lot of things. Well, this place still has some issues. Let me start with the chips and salsa. I've been spoiled by the better places that give me warm chips and fresh salsa. La Carreta gave me neither. The "restaurant style" chips were right out of a bag, and the salsas were cold and obviously pulled right out of a refrigerator. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I cannot stand eating cold salsa. Room temperature would have been fine. But that would only help to an extent. The red salsa was watery and weak, were as the salsa verde was very hot (spicy). Normally I love hot/spicy salsa, as long as there are some other flavors to it. Some garlic maybe? Salt? Onion? Anything besides just the hottest part of the pepper. A rough start to the meal. Onto my steak burrito with sides of rice and beans. Right off the bat, I noticed the flour tortilla looked old. Like the ones at home I usually throw away after having them for too long. Since there wasn't any discoloration, I consumed. Not a bad burrito, but not great. The rice was pretty bland. Good Mexican rice usually has some kind of vegetables in it. Apparently this place thinks otherwise. The beans were okay. A very mediocre meal. Good thing it was slightly under $10. La Carreta has an impressive menu. They also have a full bar, and accept credit cards ($10 minimum). Service is pretty good also. But despite these things, they need to work on the quality and freshness of the food. I found in this little corner shop some of the best Al Pastor tacos I have ever eaten. I have eaten a couple other things over the past year and was not very pleased with any of them. Today I took a coworker there and he ordered the steak fajitas. I tried the steak and it tasted like steak but what he found and I posted a picture of is simply unacceptable. Apparently the green pepper that was used was not thoroughly scrubbed as if it had been it would not have been sliced, grilled, plated and served with the BAR CODE STICKER STILL ON IT! Lest we not forget that there were 3 tables total during this service. We must have waited at least 20-30 mins for our dishes to come out. Its sliced steak and marinated pork....how long does that really take? Ordered a water never got it.... My co workers Steak fajitas with a 16oz horchata was $17.00....they must charge extra for the grilled adhesives. read more

Been going here for years. It's my favorite local restaurant. Really good tacos alpastor,Shredded chicken is also incredible and of course great steak as well. On the weekends they have special dishes like Pozole and Menudo. I like to buy by the gallon and bring it home for the family. I just had a great caldo or stew that rocked my world. The place is pretty popular, almost always someone in there. I see other places that are like ghost towns. This is an obvious sign of a good place. No delivery but take out is available. I was not too thrilled about this place who overcooked the meat and greased up the dough. I agree with other reviewers about the chips and salsa which were nothing special. I ordered beef tongue taco, pork taco, and gorditas with steak. Both pork taco and gorditas were greasy. The meat was overcooked so there were dry. This is my first time to try beef tongue taco which was actually better than the other two. I was not too happy with the cleanness and overall appearance of this restaurant neither. I have eaten here on and off over the years. The quality goes back and forth. Their tacos are good but anything fancier is hit and miss. Please stop putting oranges in the to-go containers. My attraction to, and experience of, quality Mexican dining will be pitfall to places like La Carreta. Though I mildy enjoyed my experience here, I didn't leave with much of an impression. The service, from the start, was what I would label as "uncomfortable". Not that the waitress was uncomfortable, but they she made me uncomfortable. She seen me come in and continued to let me stand in the doorway, politely waiting to be seated, for a good 10 minutes, until she had me seat myself. It was almost like she was unwelcoming or really just had no desire for my business, I suppose. Anyway, the menu seems reall good actually. Pretty wide variety, and the descriptions made everything sound like they'd be great. I settled for a chorizo y juevos torta (sausage & eggs sandwich) which comes with tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, and sour cream, plus a side of rice and beans since I ordered the meal. The sandwich had been drowned in sour cream; I'm a fan of sour cream, but not when it's molesting my sandwich. The beans were good; at that point I'd expected them to come cold but they tasted fine, as did the rice (nothing extraordinary). The bill was very cheap, which was a plus. There's a very small parking lot in the back of the restaurant, enough for maybe 10-12 cars. Again, I think I've spoiled myself by endulging in some very fine Mexican dining, and this turned out to be more like the McDonald's or Denny's of Mexican dining, for lack of a better analogy. read more

Had it once, never going there again. Sad part is , i liked my food but the service was so awful. There were 5 of us and the only table in the place. The waitress put two kinds of salsas on our table and asked if we wanted chips, we said yes. My friend asked for just cheese and onion on her tacos and asked for the melted cheese w the tortillas ( dont know the real name of it lol ) . Our food came and her cheese plate never came ! Diamond in the rough! I lucked out, on my way to a different mexican resfurrest, I saw this dos equis sign in the window .pulled a fast U-turn and here I am. Everyone is always on a hunt for a special hole in the wall Mexican resturant.. all of them are.. but this is the hole behind the hole in the wall. Really cool, old school designed drive thru building. They put these two beaitibea, thick and creamy salsas out in front of me that forced me to buy the chips. (The waitress just made the chips and I told her she should never give these away for free) I got taco dinner, 2 pastors were something exteemely special. Super gormet family style BBQ style Mexican. Even the rice was extremely delicious (who the heck brags about Mexican food rice?! ) Cilantro everything here is perfect. The Tuesday waitress was a little gem that sweeted up my day so much!!! My wife and I stopped in for a bite and I am certainly glad I did. I am assuming there have been some changes at this place since Mark was there. The salsa for the chips was cold, which from my experience is usually served that way. My wife and I both ordered their Flautas. I ordered a taco with picadillo, beans, and rice for our son. All I can say about this place is HAND MADE TORTILLAS! My wife kept saying the flauta was "fresh tasting" and not like the usual deep fried plate you feel guilty about eating. I had the beef flauta and was very happy with my meal. IT was served with beans, rice, and the usual tomato, lettuce, and lime wedge. Overall, two flautas dinners, one beef taco, a bottle of Coke (glass bottle from Mexico), and a can of Fanta came to 30 and some change including a six dollar tip. read more

I call today to place a order, I always go there for dine in it is the first time that I order to go, and some young kid take my order and I ask him if my order comw with beans he say yes, I ask him I want my fish with garlic and he say yes, then I got home no beans no garlic, So I call back to let them know about the mistake and istead of apologize and they resolve the issue, the lady who answer the phone try to argue about the fish dosent .come with beans and I never order garlic on my fish, Really bad experience for first time order first and last, I work in a restaurante and qe always try to make our customer happy, but I will take my money to a different place where they a least try fix the issue at least apologize I spend 40 dlls not the right way to run a restaurant read more

My son and I stopped in on Saturday December 26th at around 9pm. I ordered a Milanesa torta which was very salty and a cup of coffee. I had to add some lime juice and salsa to get rid of the nasty salty flavor, I usually don't like to complain about the food in general while at the restaurant. My son ordered 3 tacos and a cup of water. Service was ok nothing crazy! I asked the server for the check and she said "se page en la caja" (pay at the register) without handing me an actual check. I got up and went to the register to pay. The total for our meal was $16.75 What I hate about places like this is that they show you a price on the menu and they charge you something else. Torta $4.50 Tacos $1.95 ea Water free Coffee $1.50 Total of $11.85 We will never go back. I call and complained, but the lady there told me she couldn't do anything about my situation even though everyone knew the prices were wrong on the menu they will not reflect correctly at the register. I hope the owner gets a chance to read this because they are stealing from the customer. read more

I've had mixed experiences with Taqueria La Carreta. When I go, I usually get some form of burrito or chimichanga, and these have always been very tasty. I have no complaints about the food. The service, however, is very hit and miss. Sometimes service is pretty good, other times it's extremely slow. One time I came in for takeout on my way to work, and just as I stepped in the door the person behind the counter went back into the kitchen. I waited for 10 minutes and they never came back out. Someone else stuck their head out the kitchen door once, saw me, and then went back in the kitchen. Eventually I had to leave and pick up food somewhere else because I was out of time. I suspect the restaurant is family-owned, because surely anyone who is not family would be fired for ignoring customers for that long. read more

WOW sweet potato candy, where have you been all my life. the rice *is* completely bland, like eating tomato flavored play-doh. time to call grandma and weasel that recipe out of her. maybe barter a little, escort her to mass for 6 months. get the GOOD recipe. the dining area itself is a david-lynchy diner style that appears to have sprung right out of the early seventies, adorned with cattle horns, serapes, and a full bar with a nice tequila selection. love that too. read more

Came here last night 8/28/11. I had 2 Tacos / 1 Quesedilla w/Rice & Beans dinner and my gf had a Steak Taco and Pork Tamal. If I were to go back I definitely prefer the Chicken filling over the Steak. Overall, everything was either average or above average. Chips and Salsa were nothing special.
