07/12/26 - After spending a few hours @ the Fashion Outlet Mall my wife & I went to Maharaj Restaurant for an early dinner just last 3 pm. We missed the lunch specials which go from 11am - 2:30pm. This is located @ 3400 River Road in Franklin Park just 2.8 miles south of The Fashion Outlet Mall on the west side of River Road. Don't blink or you'll drive right by it. Trust me when I say you won't want to do this. When we arrived we were the only people there. We were greeted by Kennedy our server. He recommended an item from the Chefs Recommendation a Maharaj Mix Grill that came w/an assortment of meats like Tandori Chicken (excellent), Seekh Kabob (ground lamb sausage (excellent), Malala Kabob (chicken seasoned w/yogurt, cream cheese, garlic, cardamom & nutmeg, Dal & Butter Chicken. This also came w/lentil beans, grilled naan bread (charred) excellent. This all came on a small iron skillet w/grilled onions sizzling on the iron skillet.. We also ordered a dish of mild butter chicken that for me should have been spicer but that's the way my wife wanted it). There was a tiny condiment w/a spicy green sauce which helped w/the mild butter chicken & a milder red sauce. The Chefs Recommendation of Maharaj Mix Grill was $28. This was an awesome choice as it came w/a great assortment of different meats, grilled onion, grilled naan bread, lentil beans, a portion of butter chicken & basmati white rice. The stand alone butter chicken for me was lacking some spice & had too much sauce & not enough chicken. For dessert they brought us hot sweet ball w/a syrupy sauce that was tasty. I throughly enjoyed this meal as the flavors, seasoning & spices were very good. Kennedy was our server for the bulk of our meal but he must have left @ 4pm (shift change) because we had a different server. Either way the food & service was excellent. We had a nice dinner at Maharaj last night. We have guests over from Delhi so it's big shoes to fill. One of them was cracking dal makhani and I thought of Maharaj. This is a cre that doesn't seem to like anything , but I'll declare victory in that they like it! Mission accomplished! One thing is the place was pretty empty so that's a bit disconcerting when that happens. Later one 2 other tables were seated. On to the food, the dry gobi Manchurian was pretty good. The others through the chicken they had too spicy, it they ordered it spicy, so. The for the mains, the paneer makhani was pretty good. They out too few paneer pieces I'd say. Dal makhani was also good. I think the naan were kind of mid. Didn't taste like they had a tandoor. It was kind of dense instead of soft/chewy. Well, it's a good place. I'll have to try out their downtown location. Hopefully more lively. read more

Great Indian restaurant and our go-to spot every time we land in Chicago! As travelers, we love that it's conveniently located near the airport. The restaurant is beautiful inside, the menu has tons of options, and everything we've tried has been absolutely delicious. Quick note for spice lovers (or non-lovers ): mild = spicy, so be careful if you're thinking about medium. Either way, the flavors are amazing. The drink menu is large, portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. Consistently great experience every time. Highly recommend! read more

Food is always excellent here - been many times and will be back many more times! Portions are pretty big, so if you're not sure if you like a dish, consider getting one of the sampler platters. Great for leftovers too, though, so don't be afraid to order too much! Dal mahkani is my absolute favorite - they offer lots of good veggie options. Fantastic food and fantastic service, what more can you ask for? Went here for my birthday dinner with family and it was the perfect place. Definitely family friendly, large group friendly. The food was fantastic. It pleased my mother who has very high standards when it comes to Indian food. We got a 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and dessert for 6 people which was plenty! Our waiter, Kennedy, was so attentive and kind. He made sure we were well taken care of! All the staff sing you happy birthday (which is my worst nightmare) but it was so lovely. Everyone individually wishes me happy birthday afterwards. Definitely a recommended place for good Indian food! read more

Great food and fast service! We ordered their samosa chaat and it was wonderful. The samosas were hot and felt like they were made in-house. The garlic naan was also good - perhaps the softest we have had in a while. Kadhai paneer was flavorful, would recommend! read more

Came to Maharaj with high expectations. What I got was acceptable , but just ordinary Indian food with high prices. First, the good; the biranyi was by far the highlight. Good spice complexity, soft rice, flavorful. The bread basket was also very good, but it was $14 for bread. Our royal tandoori platter, featuring 3 types of Indian style chicken and a seekh kebab was OK, but lacking substance. The platter featured 2 chunks of each Indian style chicken (3 different styles) and 4 pieces of cut up seekh kebab. Royal & platter in the same sentence conjures up something spectacular. This platter was in need of more stuff. Butter chicken was ordered, too. The sauce was more tomato tasting than buttery. And lastly, the chicken 65. Absolutely awful. There was no flavor and little spice to chunks of DARK MEAT chicken. Squiggining, rubbery dark meat chicken is a killer in any cuisine. On top of this $100 meal, white rice doesn't come with the entree and is à la carte. When chicken dishes run $18 an entree, charging $3 extra for white rice is a deal breaker. On that point alone, I will not be back. Services & ambience were excellent. read more

We love Indian food and this is our new go to spot. Every dish has been delicious and the service is very friendly and accommodating. They are spot on with the levels of spiciness. Even the mild dishes have tons of flavor. We are used to eating in an Indian area of the city where it is extremely hard to find parking. It's nice that this place has its own lot. I was very impressed with the good food, superior service, and cool atmosphere. See if you can get Kennedy as a server! The menu is very comprehensive with great vegetarian options. Their malai/palak kofta had great sauce but the kofta was bland and doughy. Mango lassi was fine and appetizers were excellent. Their best menu section for us was the dessert. So good!!! We came early on a Friday evening, so it was not crowded. Our server took care of us right away, in fact too soon for us to figure out what we wanted! I ordered the chicken acchari masala and the hubs ordered Rogan Josh, a lamb dish. I enjoyed mine thoroughly. I ordered it mild but could have gone spicier tbh. It was very tasty though! I tried my husband's and his was very good, but I'm not a huge fan of lamb. In any case, dinner was fabulous and we'd love to come again. Prices are so reasonable! read more

This place is amazing. The food is so good and the people are so friendly! My favorite is the palak paneer with buttery naan! I also like the salty lassi. They have an amazing lunch special menu. Honestly unbeatable. I've been to the one downtown and now this one. They both are very cute with great vibes and very pretty dish ware, tables, and seating. First time at this location. They have been changing the decor to have more of an authentic Indian experience. Our waiter Rusty was friendly and attentive. We ordered butter chicken and kadhai chicken. Food arrived quickly and it was hot and fresh. I asked if I could have my kadhai chicken Indian hot and it was perfect heat my wife had garlic nan it was outstanding as well. Check this place out. I'm so glad they opened this new location nearby! Even though it's been around for three months now, I used to visit their other two suburban locations. Both were good, but they had their issues. I've already eaten here five times, and every experience has been great--the service is friendly, and the food is always delicious. The lunch specials are a nice touch, too. I've also gotten takeout twice, and it's been just as good. There is one downside, though: the owner has a large pickup truck that parks right next to one of the disabled spots, which isn't allowed. read more

I love this restaurant! We've been twice on a Friday night and it's been amazing. Great place to chill and have a great meal after a busy week. It's quiet in a good way - tables with other guests are spaced out so you can seriously relax and stay to enjoy the really good food and drinks. We've been eating Indian for many years and there are so many dishes I haven't tried or heard of on the menu and the ones we've tried here have been off the charts. Their onion kulcha (naan with onions) alone is so tender and delicious. I had a new eggplant dish and we've tried a couple paneer-based & tandoori dishes that were excellent. Love! read more

The food was soooo delicious. We had veggie Samosas, Chicken Tikki Masala, Tandoori Chicken and Methi Malai Matter and garlic naan! Everything was excellent and so fresh! I met my son for lunch here today and was pleasantly pleased with everything! Clean and beautifully arranged and the staff was amazing. I have never had Indian food before but our waiter Charlie was happy to educate me!
