You do have to ask for cilantro. My other half had a goat burrito, that was good. And my other person had pork stew that what she said it was, by this point I didn't try it, she liked it though ,again she said rice was dry. The food was bland,dried out and incomplete. The steak Tacos, Burrito, and quesidillas my wife and I had were delicious!!! Service was also very good. Only complaint (which was from my wife) was that the salsa from the free chips and salsa was too hot for her. Unfortunately because of that we won't be frequenting there too often as chips and salsa is my wife's favorite part of the meal, lol. But what really just stuck to me was the service. We came in and were promptly greeted, handed a menu and once we were ready to order we stood there for a minute or three. Well originally craving for Mexican going to franchise Pepe's but unfortunately I couldn't make it there because I am around the vicinity in Franklin Park by just tires to get a wheel alignment and it's going to take him almost the entire day since I came late around 11:00 a.m. and was craving for Mexican food specifically Pepe's franchise but had to look for a local Mexican restaurant in Franklin Park in this was given rating reviews. It's a decent Mexican hole in the wall Mexican restaurant locally in Franklin Park. That's the three stars I don't know why it's considered the best? The corn chips they bring out to you with the salsa was okay especially the tortillas it wasn't the freshest but it wasn't the worst it was good now they're guacamole that I ordered extra was very fresh that I give them good credit for if not great thank. I know this is not true Mexican eating tex-mexer fajitas but I do give them a decent credit on the beef, shrimp and chicken combination fajita with your standard mole sour cream and that fresh guacamole I liked. I usually don't order sodas but I went for the jarritos lime soda which was what I was craving for. No fried ice cream like Pepe's but went for the flan instead which was also delicious and fresh but nothing unique or out of this world. Staff was a super attentive and quick delivering the food price wise a bit expensive especially for fajitas getting up to $20 was expecting a little more but it's satisfied since I've experienced other Mexican restaurants generously giving a lot more in fajitas. Otherwise to summarize a good decent hole in the wall local Mexican restaurant but not something I would be obsessed going to since I don't consider it the best but at the same time from the other hello Yelp reviews trying to say it's the best would be an overstatement but it's decent and good. Note beware if you are paying with credit card they charge an SVC or service charge that shocked me. It was $1.78 more which I didn't understand because they already gave me the bill yet when I was submitted my credit card to pay my debt I saw like a difference in the cost. I had to dress the cashier about that and I told them despite that they have a sign up in front about that on credit card payments they should put it on their receipts. read more

This is my second review for Zacatecas restaurant. I ordered the enchiladas de pollo con mole. It was served with rice and refried beans. A complimentary basket of stale chips and spicy salsa with onions and cilantro were brought to the table. My husband ordered the ground beef tacos served with rice and refried beans. I asked him to rate his food on a scale of 1 to 5. He rated the tacos with a 4 and said he had "better tacos at other places." We arrived on a Sunday at 12:25 for lunch. Our food arrived at 1:07 p.m. When we walked into the restaurant all the tables were occupied except one. It was loud. It was very busy. There are only nine tables and we were given the very last table. Right next to the short hallway leading to the bathrooms. Our server was very apologetic when she delivered our food to the table. It would have been nice to receive a refill of water. This was not the case. Since it took them a long time for us to get our food a complimentary dessert would have been nice. This was not the case. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my chicken enchiladas. The meat was mixed with dark and white (breast) chicken. Of course, it is my fault because I did not ask if the tacos are 100% chicken breast which I prefer. The rice lacked spices and seasoning. It was somewhat bland. My husband and I both agreed that we will not come here on Sunday for lunch anymore. It was very loud. It was very busy. The service was excruciatingly slow. I certainly don't mind waiting for my food (15 minutes tops). I understand restaurants become very busy so please find a solution to compensate your customers. When food is delayed for over 30 minutes a complimentary dessert or a complimentary beverage is the way to take care of customers. It's called common sense customer service. My wife and I are always looking for a nice authentic Mexican restaurant while we're on the road. Zacatecas was a great option. We had to get creative with ordering. I ordered a burrito and she ordered the fajitas and boy were they filled with flavor so much we wanted to enjoy every bite we took our time. The burrito had some special salsa on top of it and have beans mushrooms and was loaded with vegetables. My wife's fajitas had mushrooms peppers spinach tomatoes and sliced carrots and she had it with a side of rice and beans and guacamole and she really enjoyed it. If you're a picky Mexican foodie, you may want to check this place out the next time if your in the area. My boyfriend really likes the Hawaiian torta here. I hadn't been to Zacatecas yet, so I thought I'd give it a try. The direction we come from, it's right before the tracks--so that's nice! We came in and the restaurant had maybe four full tables, so they weren't that busy. I ordered a chicken torta and a horchata, he ordered the Hawaiian torta. A simple order that should've taken at most 10 minutes. It took 30 minutes. Flippin RIDICULOUS. They only had one cook on staff and evidently there were many takeout orders. But sweet jesus! We sat there just staring at the cashier and the cook. Would it have killed the cashier to at least apologize for the wait? When we finally got our food, we asked if we could get the chips and salsa. The dude said it was extra. BRUH. It's free when you dine in...PLUS we waited eons for TWO TORTAS. Just give us the damn salsa and chips. We deserve it. My torta was okay; the chicken was dry. I was in the mood to try someplace new, and I remember passing Zacatecas a few times, and being surprised to see a Mexican restaurant open in this location. I don't know why a Mexican restaurant opening anywhere would surprise me. But with Gene n Judes just down the road, it's a bit of an odd location for Mexican. For me personally, a less than impressive experience. The place itself is pretty nice. Plenty of room to dine-in and enjoy your meal. But the food ranges from average to slightly below average. I would have put off reviewing until sampling more of the menu, but with much better places in the area, the chances of me coming back are slim. I ordered three tacos de al pastor with rice and beans. The al pastor almost looked like chorizo. It was dry looking, and too sweet. It's pretty hard to screw up refried beans, but even this tasted off. It was too orangish, and also had a bit of a sweet flavor too it. Nothing noteworthy about the rice either. Just "meh". Even the red and green salsa were mediocre. Too watery and not enough kick. I don't completely rule out ever coming back, since they are open till 12AM on weekends. Another slight advantage they do have is they deliver ($10 minimum, $2 delivery charge). It also gives the drunks at Hala Kahiki another place besides Gene & Judes to absorb those pansy fruity cocktails they've been drinking all night. read more

The amount of food/drink you order is not worth the money. It doesnt make sense that a champurrado is like $4 and ONLY sell the one size but they can not fill it up at all. I came last week for a champurrado too and after I payed and waited 5 minutes, only for the cashier to tell me they do not have any more and offered just plain hot chocolate for the same amount of price and i stupidly agreed. It was not filled up as well. However, I thought champurrados were already made and ready to sell but I waited a while for mine only for AGAIN to to be filled up to the inner line. When I brought it up, the older waitress said something like "if it's for here its x amount and if it's to go it's x amount". What? So they only offer the one size for same price but its different amounts of liquid depending if it is for here or to go??? I shouldve just had my money back but I waited to damn long for my drink. My husband and I go here sometimes once to twice a week. We have brought so may friends here too. It use to be Mr. Taco, which was our go to taco joint till it closed down and up went Zacatecas. I can say its even better than Mr. Taco. Its not a huge place but only had to wait to a table one time so far. The entire staff is super nice, never had a bad experience with the staff or the food. I love the spinach quesadillas and the caso fundido. My husband really likes their horchata too. We have had their tacos, tortas, tamales...pretty much half the menu : ) ALL of it has been amazing. Its real Mexican food, no Taco Bell type tacos here!!! The only thing I can say bad is they either have it too cold in there or too hot for some reason. The former served beside a frosty mug. I ordered the pork sopas dinner plate and was served a very uninspired plate with the main dish separating the rice from the beans. I will never understand this. The first time I dine at Mexican restaurants I always order pork as it's usually the tastiest choice. This is the first time I wasn't able to taste the pork. In fact, it was hard to distinguish between it and the potatoes in my sopas. Everything else about the main course was nice; the gem was finding the hidden pineapple wedge under the pile of crema, chihuahua cheese, lettuce, and tasteless pork. Still unimpressed. For some reason I decided to give the place a third try and ordered dessert to wrap things up. Three times a charm? More like three strikes and you're out. Anyone can roll store-bought ice cream in corn flakes, but not everyone calls it fried ice cream. The service and the beer were the best parts of this meal; two things that I'm sure I could have gotten at BW3's. Hole in the wall looking place from the outside that's OK inside. Reviews on this place are all over the board. After my visit, I kind of understand why though. I stopped there early for breakfast - right at opening. Was looking for a dish that was traditional Mexican but most of the options were American style. Then I saw the Mexican omelet with chorizo. Sounded good so I went with it - came with hash browns and toast. Well, it took awhile for the food to arrive and I was the only person in the place. I'm thinking this was more of a kitchen issue than front of the house. I wasn't in a hurry, but something to consider as a future reference if I'm looking for something quick. The omelet was like nothing I've seen - rather than folding the ingredients into the egg it was all infused into the eggs, making for a burnt orange hunk of eggs. While it didn't look super appetizing, it was truly delicious - flavor like no other omelet I've had. The hash browns were good too, took up a good part of the plate, though they were kind of flattened on the plate too, so an average size order. I'll give this place another try - probably for lunch or dinner to see how they stack up. Price was good - $7.25 for a reasonably sized order.
