Visited La Sierra on January 30, 2026, for breakfast with my fellow foodie and dear friend after receiving a recommendation for this restaurant from my wife. La Sierra was approximately a 35-minute drive from our home in the western suburbs. We arrived at approximately 8:30 AM. As we drove up my wingman John commented that he would not have come into this neighborhood or restaurant if I was not with him. Yes, the neighborhood was a bit rough (I grew up in Pilsen in the 1960's) but to me it felt like home in Chicago. We walked in and were warmly greeted by the hostess and waitress and told to sit-down anywhere we wanted. We chose a booth in the second room of the restaurant; the walls were covered with photos of Mexico and the smell coming from the kitchen was heaven. Our waitress quickly approached us for our drink order, she mentioned that they had Cafe de la Olla (made with piloncillo-unrefined whole cane sugar from Latin America, and cinnamon sticks) which we both ordered. The coffee arrived in a colorful Mexican traditional mug (just the way my mother used to make me). It was delicious! We then ordered our breakfast, which was Mexican Chilaquiles (a traditional, comforting breakfast dish consisting of crispy tortilla chips simmered in red or green salsa until slightly softened) with eggs, meat & refired beans. We were both in "Heaven", the tortilla chips were perfectly cooked with just enough "Crisp" to them. Just the way my mother used to make me on a weekend morning. My wingman & I both agreed that we will be returning and bringing our fellow foodies with us to try the other dishes offered! read more

At first I wasn't sure if this place was even open as all the reviews I saw on Yelp and google appeared to be several years old. There was a line when we got there (around noon) which I feel is usually a sign of tasty food. The tortilla chips were so yummy with a flavorful seasoning and delicious salsa. The service was quick and the food was great. While the interior leaves something to be desired, everything seemed clean and the food was great! read more

My boyfriend & I's favorite place to go for his steak tacos and I get the shrimp fajitas. So delicious, the lady is very sweet and gives good service every time. We always leave stuffed to the core. On my first visit I tried their chicken enchiladas, I wasn't a fan. Chicken was minced and dried out. I had to add the table salsa, as it is served with no sauce. I heard the microwave being used in the kitchen. Not sure what they're heating up, maybe it was to melt the cheese? Also not a fan of their Horchata recipe. I gather there is a new owner since January. I wish him well, but not likely to return. read more

I have been here a couple of times now. They get -1 star because their tacos are not the best. The meat is good but they use horrible tortillas. They use something like Mission or whatever it is. The tortillas are super white and have that funky taste. If they were to use tortillas from Atotonilco or Milagro, their tacos would be really good. Here is the reason I am writing this review. I absolutely love a good Torta de Milanesa and this place has one of the best I have ever had. It is a good portion and the meat is soft. I hate it when you have to pull or yank on the milanesa and this place has a really tender milanesa. Bottom line, they get 4*. The Torta de Milanesa is a must have!! read more

When it's national burrito day... you go get yourself a dang burrito! And that I did. I was crunched for time and needed a quick lunch, but wanted my burrito adventure to still be a 4 star plus experience - which is where Taqueria La Sierra comes in. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical by the looks of the place when I pulled up, but Mexican food magic is seriously going on inside that kitchen. Their menu is straightforward and posted largely on the wall with some pictures included. Burritos are $6.99 and include your choice of meat plus lettuce, tomato, sour cream, beans, cilantro, and cheese. I choose steak and my husband went with chicken. We placed our order to go but they do have some tables if you choose to dine in. Our burritos were hot, bagged, and ready to go in like 5 minutes! I appreciate that the burritos are wrapped in paper and foil so nothing get spilled. Plus, they were still hot by the time we got home. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I devoured the entire burrito because these babies are huge! So delicious though. They were packed full of fresh ingredients and stuffed to the brim. I liked the red and green salsas we were given as well. My only complaint was that the sour cream was all in one side of the burrito, so once I got to the bottom it was pretty soggy. That may have been from travel or maybe the way it was made, not sure. This place is delicious! Tried it with friends who are new to the area and it's definitely a great find, and going to be a place we have to go every time we're back for a visit. Food is simple and authentic. There's a small back room if you're eating in, and a really convenient carry out window. Don't judge Taqueria La Sierra by the outside (or the inside for that matter) because they make some good Mexican grub! Got a al pastor burrito, cubana torta, and a large jamaica drink to go for around $13. The burrito was packed with a lot of pork pieces and beans, didn't detect too much lettuce, which didn't matter as it was delicious! Especially with the red sauce which seemed more like salsa rather than hot sauce. My torta was a piece of steak with bacon (wow), lettuce, tomato, avocado, sour cream, and a shredding of head cheese and also was great. The steak was the main tasting note in every bite and the torta tasted like a creamy Mexican burger. What a dive! read more

I have to agree with others, Don't let the outside decor take away from the mexican goodies hidden inside. Authentic, awesome Mexican food. This my husband and I's fav new spot for a quick bite/carryout. What is even better is that my family of three can easily eat for under $20 here. I am a big fan of La Sierra. I have been stopping by for a Mexican treat, whenever I am in the area, for years. My favorites are the chicken or pork quesadilla with everything, mmm... fresh off the grill, so much flavor and crispy around the edges. The chicken and pork tacos are also great. If you are ever in the mood for Mexican breakfast, La Sierra is the place. The Huevos a la Mexicana is my fave, scrambled jalapeño and onion eggs with refried beans, consistently perfect well seasoned hashrowns and flour tortillas. Don't forget the chips and guacamole, the chips are made to order and topped with seasoning salt. All that being said, the Carne asada is not my favorite here, (go somewhere else for that)sort of bland for my taste. read more

It's cheese, meat(I particularly enjoy the shrimp) pico, and they must throw in some sour cream because these babies as so melty and creamy. This is sooo authentic! Best tacos around! I am a creature of habit and if a place does something really well I repeat! Thus I've become addicted to their pork tacos. No "pulled" pork here but sliced pork that's a tad crispy on the edge and generously stuffed into corn tortillas and on request slices of avocado and Mexican crema. Their prices are right on too with the requisite sauces. Look for it carefully cause you could almost miss it! The place is immaculate and has adequate seating for dining in but I always get our orders to go... they don't sell liquor and tacos taste so much better with beer! They have an extensive menu and judging by the activity in and out of the restaurant it is a popular haunt! The service is brisk and friendly and not everything is loaded with cilantro which I can't eat! They will withhold it on request! Altogether make this a must must stop for your next taco craving but don't be like me, check out other items in the menu!!! read more

This place is awesome! Since moving to Naperville from Chicago, I have been craving good Mexican food. Mexican food in Naperville = no bueno! My friend at work insisted she had a great "hidden gem" of a Mexican spot in Aurora. Now my coworker is Polish, so I had my doubts. But she was right on! The food is delicious and much more "authentic" than anything you can find in Naperville city limits. The prices are dirt cheap too. I cannot believe I have driven by this joint for years and never stopped in. My loss. My son and I went for lunch. He had the taco asada and I had the quesadilla asada. We dined in. The service was prompt, the food was hot and delicious. The chips were freshly made and the salsa tasty. We didn't order drinks and I think the bill was a little over $5 - so not the most inexpensive place I've ever been. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

The thing with this place is that while not every dish is a slam dunk-I tend to avoid the steak here, the dishes that are a slam dunk aren't just a slam dunk, they are phenomenal. When I come here I order the following three dishes and share: Chicken Torta Hawaiiana, a chorizo quesadilla, and 1 sope de rajas-oh and mango juice please! Best in town. I must admit the restaurant itself is not very modern and should be remodeled, (the bathroom is in desperate need of remodeling) but the food speaks for itself, I always order for pick up. read more

Ok, so I tried this place based on the Yelp reviews and I must say that I was very disappointed! Ordered the steak burrito. Steak was burnt and tough to chew (i.e. means the meat was not fresh!!). For close to $6 a burrito no thank you, next time I'm trying some place else. Also, you know the food is not fresh when you can feel the food coming up after a couple of hours!!! read more
