Overpriced and Underwhelming La Quinta De Los Reyes was a letdown. What should've been complimentary chips and salsa turned into surprise charges--$2.99 for extra chips, $3.99 for watery salsa, and $11.99 for so-called "fresh" guacamole. Nothing was fresh. The guacamole was warm, browning, and lacked flavor--easily the worst we've had. The salsa tasted diluted and bland. We waited over 15 minutes just for water, and only got service after flagging someone down. Although the main dishes arrived hot, the poor service and disappointing starters ruined the experience. Definitely not worth the cost, or the wait time. We won't be back. read more

I am absolutely loving this restaurant. It is incredibly welcoming and clean, with stunning Mexican decorations. To celebrate Mother's Day today, we enjoyed the parrillada Los Reyes brunch for four people. Despite there being only three of us, we had plenty of leftovers. Our entrees were excellent. I had the steak burrito and my husband had the steak enchiladas. The service was quick and friendly. We were disappointed in the margaritas, which were very weak. I got a Bisteca ala Mexicana and it wasn't seasoned the sauce It was watery, the rice was that seasoned, the bean soup had too much meat and no beans is very disappointing. My waitress didn't bring me the rest of my food. My bean soup was cold and that's because they left the top heated pot open it was open when I got there and when I left so about 50 mins just had it sitting open. It didn't close it . Next to 2 cups beans soup next to a dirty towelI had to tell her about it and she hadn't came over to check on me at all and I'm ready to go. So disappointed, we read the reviews and were excited to try a new place before the play. I told everyone about the table side guacamole reviews and we were all in to order it. Sadly it had no flavor, just avocado with no seasoning. No lime, cilantro, jalapeño or even salt - just bland. The medium salsa, very watery and no seasoning or spice - it was far from medium. For dinner I order the appetizer shrimp flautas, they were basically empty crispy shells with one bite of what appeared to be the tiny frozen shrimp stuff - so one bite of a tough shrimp filling. One of our crew ordered the chicken tacos and also commented on the lack of flavor, seasoning or spice. Then one of the gals ordered the steak chimichangas - ridiculously huge and sadly no seasoning, spice or flavor other than the red sauce which had a bitterness to it. It's not cheap Mexican food, our check was over $100 for 3 disappointing meals and only 1 alcohol drink. In my opinion that's too much for the quality of food we received. We eat out before every play, spend a lot of $$ in Aurora and usually don't mind spending it but we will not keep this in our rotation as we were all very disappointed. We had a large group for a Birthday party. It was in the early afternoon on a Saturday, so it was not really busy yet. They easily handled our big group and the service was excellent.We got Guac and Salsa Verde for the table, both made fresh on their mobile guac/salsa station, that was pretty cool. The guac was guac but the Salsa Verde was warm and fresh and super good, we got it mild as we had a lot of different people with different tastes. I was surprised by the.... call it the Authenticity of the menu. They had the standard tex mex stuff like burritos and enchiladas, but also a lot of things I have never seen or heard of. One thing I noticed walking in was the large amount of Nopales (cactus) cooking on the grill, so I really wanted something with Nopales. I settled on the Molcajete Mixto, which is an incredibly large pile of Chicken, Pork and Beef with red chili sauce, with peppers and onions, fresh cheese and Nopales served in a Molcajete. It was so so good, the meat had great flavor, all cooked perfectly and I took so much home I had it twice more. They also have homemade tortillas. It was one of the better restaurant meals I've had in a long time. My wife had a simple Taco salad with steak and it was just as good. I can't believe we had never been here. We certainly will be back and bring everyone I know. I hear they have maratchi on the weekends at night. There is so much more I want to try on the menu, it's a great location on the river. Cool Mexican place in the middle of downtown Aurora. It seems a lot more open than lots of these other relatively dinky places. La Quinta De Los Reyes is a good place for hanging out and watching a game and whatever. Has a fairly authentic menu, at least compared to what typical Americans think of Mexican food. The prices are kind of high on a few things and there's not many entrees for vegetarians. Good place to bring a date. It took us awhile to pick something because there's not a whole lot of good vegetarian items as far as food. There's plenty of cocktails though. Of course these include margaritas. We got the margarita with the house tequila. It's $9 for a pretty good one. This could have been bigger but it's still bigger than a lot of the ones places will serve you. As for the food we were limited. We chose to get the guacamole as it was about the only acceptable thing. It's about $7 for an appetizer. They make this in front of you. It's kind of fun to watch and it's free entertainment. They also sometimes have live music. Ears may hurt because it gets loud. It often will have the TVs up and some band playing. I had a meal with a friend here on a Saturday night and we really enjoyed ourselves. The space is very unique, which I felt added to the ambiance. We did the tableside salsa and guacamole which I thought was tasty, but if I had known the portion sizes I probably would have skipped it as there was so much food. I got one of the enchilada platters with rojo sauce and it was huge and solid. The beans and rice were also good. Felt like a traditional Americanized Mexican food meal with lovely service and a good ambiance. My mango margarita was also tasty. We wanted seafood, but this place didn't have our usual choice for seafood options. They had modelo on draft which was a plus. I ordered some chicken flautas which were good, I enjoyed them. Came with rice and beans and salad and guacamole. I should also mention they have a salsa table cart, where someone comes around and makes salsa at your table. Salsa was good. The others at my table said their dinners were good, but got some mixed reviews. They put a lot of meat in the burritos. Service was friendly and on point. Place was nice. Seemed as though there is a larger area in the basement. And their is parking right across the street. The view was nice, overlooking the fox river. While we were seated pretty quickly, our service was kinda slow and our waiter seemed to frequently forget our items (straws, chips, tortillas, etc), which meant we had to ask a couple of times. The food was hot, but honestly lacked the flavor that I was hoping for - there was no salt or spice in anything and we didn't get rice/beans with our fajitas, leaving us less than satisfied. If you really want to taste authentic, "FIRE", Mexican tacos, this is the place! We had the Al pastor and Carne Asada tacos served with a side of guacamole and salsa with chips. The tacos felt like we were in Mexico. The tortillas on the tacos really stood out in the best way possible. However, truthfully, the guacamole lacked flavor and tasted VERY bland and basic. The salsa was also a bit watery. Overall, we recommend trying the tacos! Get ready for some expensive Mexican food! The $25 restaurant.com coupon put a small dent in the final bill. The decor inside is nice and there's even a fireplace. Still, it was a bit chilly inside. Most entrees starts at $14 and it goes up from there. After we were seated, a lady came over with her cart to make fresh complimentary salsa (mild, medium or hot), but maybe not so complimentary because the cart came with a tip jar. For an extra $4, you can get a side of guacamole. Both were very good. We ordered the medium salsa and it wasn't really spicy, which is perfectly fine by me. They have tons of seafood offerings on the menu. The shrimp flautas appetizer was delicious. It came out with 6 rolls for about $8. The dinner I ordered (which I cannot pronounce or remembered how it's spelled) was delicious! It was an $18 seafood festival served in a mortar. There was a mixture of squid, mussels, shrimps on a bed of rice with a few crab legs in there. The sauce/seasoning on everything was fantastic. The margaritas were large, $8 a glass. I don't think I'd come here to order typical Mexican food (e.g. tacos and burritos) because I get perfectly good ones elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. We hosted an event here on Tuesday. From the inception to the end of our event, it was a breeze! Claudia is easy to work with & very responsive. Our event was held in the upstairs bar which was GORGEOUS! What a great space! The owner of this restaurant is so rude and arrogant. I had to report him to the BBB. 12/10/23 6:53pm Went out for dinner with my family ordered parrillada de los reyes when we ordered we specifically asked for no beans with our order and no "nopales" or cactus when we received our order it had cactus on the tray the waitress noticed and took it back to the kitchen. When she came back we notice there was still cactus on it. I asked her if she could remake it because i really dislike cactus and the taste it leaves. She took the tray back and i saw the kitchen was just removing the pieces of cactus so i decided to ask her for the check because we were not going to eat it like that. She brought the bill and i was being charged for everything including the parrillada that we didn't get back or eat at all from. I ask why and she said we had to be charged for it because we ordered it. I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager The manager refused to come speak to us. They removed the parrillada from the bill but charged us for what was suppose to be a complimentary salsa and the guacamole that we ordered. I then told the waitress that if i was going to be charged for the salsa and guacamole i would like to take it home she said that she already threw it away i asked again to speak to the manager and the waitress told me he did not want to talk to me. I approached the owner and asked for a reason and he said everything that is brought out has to be thrown away there for he was going to charge me. He gave me attitude sat there with his arms crossed. I proceeded to pay about $40 for a "complimentary" salsa a guacamole and 3 sodas.
