Summary: Good eats. Stop there when driving through, then leave town quickly. Never heard of Dorris, California? Well, why would you? The whole place is Other Side Of the Tracks, famous for being unknown. Nevertheless, when heading northward toward Sunriver and Bend Oregon or places around there, you'll pass right through sleepy little Dorris (perhaps named after some poor unfortunate woman who couldn't even spell her own name), and the gaily painted Taqueria will be on your left, the first dining establishment you'll see in quite a few miles. This brightly painted outpost of Mexico has mild salsa and an extensive menu of comfort-Mex. Food's quite good, and much more authentic than most, presumably serving the town demographic. Feels like border town Mexican. Se habla ingles, pero solo un poco. No complicated questions. AND, wonder of wonders--they make their own Horchata from scratch! None of this powdered mix in a big margarita machine. Really good horchata.

Not that great I won't come back. Had to ask the lady to clean our table, it was filthy and hasn't been cleaned in quite some time. Floated I'm my lemonade!

    Great home made salsa

We wanted to make reservations for dinner on a Thursday but no one answered the phone. We decided to head over to the restaurant a few minutes before we planned to dine with friends only to discover they weren't open and a hand lettered writing on the door said they were closed Thursdays and Sundays. We did return the next evening, now knowing that they would be open on Friday. The restaurant shares an entryway with a popular bar. It was amusing watching people enter the main door and then turn one way or the other to enter a business, only to realize they want the other door. I saw a few families with little kids start towards the bar and then turn to the restaurant. Groups in motorcycle jackets did the reverse. A signboard at the entrance to the restaurant invites customers to choose a table and then help themselves to chips and salsa. My husband and I split an entrée and it was more then enough for the both of us. Portion sizes are generous. The food was very good. Much better than Casa Ramos or Puerto Vallarta. If you want Mexican food in Mount Shasta, stay away from those chains and go to La Perla for a much better meal at reasonable prices to boot. We enjoyed the background music, with songs from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, The Proclaimers.

The guac was okay it just tasted like avocado so we put a little bit of salt and lime. The carne asada tacos were cooked perfect! Our server was really nice and sweet. Had a great time!

My husband and I shared a combo platter and I requested no avocado but substitute extra sour cream, not only were they accommodating but the service at this restaurant is very friendly and makes every effort to make sure that their customers are satisfied with the service and the food came out hot and delicious and just as we had ordered. Portion size was really good and the flavor was on point. One of the employees said that they were at their new location for only 2 weeks and everything seem to be running very very smoothly and efficiently. Love to the decor and everything looked fresh and well decorated to make for a wonderful atmosphere. We had the combo plate which we selected a shredded beef chimichanga, chicken enchilada, refried beans, rice and I requested substitute extra sour cream for the guacamole. The warm chips, salsa and bean dip were a really good start to out meal. If you're in town or live in the area you really should give this place a try if you haven't already. 10/10
