I've learned to not trust Yelp for business info, but then again, sometimes a business's website is wrong too. We wanted to make reservations for dinner on a Thursday but no one answered the phone. We decided to head over to the restaurant a few minutes before we planned to dine with friends only to discover they weren't open and a hand lettered writing on the door said they were closed Thursdays and Sundays. We did return the next evening, now knowing that they would be open on Friday. The restaurant shares an entryway with a popular bar. It was amusing watching people enter the main door and then turn one way or the other to enter a business, only to realize they want the other door. I saw a few families with little kids start towards the bar and then turn to the restaurant. Groups in motorcycle jackets did the reverse. A signboard at the entrance to the restaurant invites customers to choose a table and then help themselves to chips and salsa. My husband and I split an entrée and it was more then enough for the both of us. Portion sizes are generous. The food was very good. Much better than Casa Ramos or Puerto Vallarta. If you want Mexican food in Mount Shasta, stay away from those chains and go to La Perla for a much better meal at reasonable prices to boot. Walking in the place was quiet and clean. We immediately got chips and salsa, and I ordered guac on the side. The guac was okay it just tasted like avocado so we put a little bit of salt and lime. Came by here last Saturday at 6pm and door was locked and lights were out. They must be closed.

Traveling from Vegas to Seattle, came across this little gem in Mount Shasta. The restaurant was extremely clean, the food was excellent! They have a self serve chips and salsa bar, with hot and mild salsas, the mild was the better of the two, very fresh ingredients. The enchiladas that we had were full of meat and cheese, the sauce was not over powering. The Tamale had a very good meat to mesa ratio, and was very flavorful. The beans, let me say, i could have have made a meal out of them, excellent! The rice had good flavor as well. Our waitress, didn't catch her name was very nice, our food came out quickly.. If your in Mount Shasta, stop by here, you won't be disappointed. read more

My partner and I wanted a quick and delicious dinner with the kids after a long day of snow sledding. Tried two other places in downtown Shasta but both were packed and we did not want to wait - glad we did not! La Perla is adjacent to a bar and has an old school vibe. The decor is diner-esque but interesting. They offer self-serve chips, salsa and soft drinks (the latter for a price). Food portions are generous and very tasty, we all loved our food. My partner had a jalapeño margarita which was extraordinary. Cherry on top was our amazing server - she was extremely nice, prompt and accommodating. A pleasure all around. Mediocre at best. Nothing fancy and I will give kudos to the salsa. The chips tasted like burnt oil recycled. The drink was not great. Waitress tried her best bless her heart. I was surprised that the kitchen does. Or believe in making substitutions, that's was a real turn off. I ordered chicken fajitas with no bell peppers and the chicken was not grilled well, even though I explicitly asked for well cooked! Service was great. Loved the 80's & 90's music! Food, not so great. I had the 3 street tacos, there was an abundance of cilantro on the tacos. I like cilantro but this was like a cilantro salad - it was almost inedible and I scraped as much as I could off to the side. I chose chicken, carnitas and steak. I guess I liked the chicken the best - they were just ehhhh. My husband had the Chile Relleno burrito and I thought that was pretty tasty. My son ordered a breakfast burrito and we also ordered one to go. There was a mix up with the to go and table order. It took a while to get my son's order at the table. I highly do not recommend spending your money here. The food was not good at all. Taco Bell has better honestly. To top it all off my family and I got food poisoning from this place. We couldn't continue our roads trip due to sickness. Very unfortunate experience wouldn't wish it on anyone else that is visiting. Found this place on yelp and so glad we did. The salsa and chip bar was an added bonus! My husband got the Birria and it was everything we expected and more. The homemade tortilla was not fresh either was the chicken, definitely came from yesterday and into the microwave, chicken was dry, ordered 2 kinds of cheese on them and got less than a pinch of only one, called and got my money back, I refuse to pay for junk food. This place is one of the best Mexican places around. The food was plentiful, fresh and reasonably priced. Twas a good choice for us this evening! The place is attached to a bar across the hall if you're into that. The decor and ambiance is fun although the place has mild smell of mold, probably from a roof leak, but you stop noticing it after 10 mins or so. It's self service chips, salsa and drinks... chips are fresh and the salsa is nice and chunky. Water is well filtered and has no taste... I'd recommend stopping by this place for sure. read more

We read the reviews and they are right on! We walked down to La Perla's and were immediately greeted by Maria who told us to grab chips and salsa and find a seat. You could also serve yourself water or soft drinks. I thought that was great. No more waiting and hoping for refills. I ordered the street tacos and my hubby ordered a gigantic burrito! The food was absolutely delicious. Salsa was great. They have a few but I just got medium and it was very flavorful. Maria was very attentive. Some of the best Mexican I've had. My favorite is the pollo a La crema - sans the mushrooms for me. Yum.

I'm a SoCal Mexican food snob and this place is legit delicious. Everything we had tasted fresh. If you can, definitely pay extra for the handmade tortillas. I have there many times. Food was excellent but recently I have found plastic in my carnitas burrito twice! Kind of hard to sallow when there is a two inch piece of plastic in your mouth. Just wrong! They probably wrapped the carnitas in plastic the night prior to utilizing it for the next day.I complained and didn't get much of a response. I think I will get a better response from the health department . I have owned my own restaurant prior. I will make my carnitas at home from now on.
