Sunday morning breakfast tacos at a new place for me in Austin, Texas. I did the standard first order of chorizo and egg and also bacon and egg on flour. Each were $3. CASH ONLY. Tortillas were good, now awesome, but good. Good sized amount of filling. Two was a nice breakfast, so pretty cheap stop. I usually like the chorizo more than the bacon, but one of the better bacon fillings I've had. Not just one lonely strip of bacon, not crumbled up on the eggs. The red salsa is hot. Like really hot. Good, but beware. Definitely a winner. read more

Cash only - you have been warned! A small food trailer outside of a gas station (ATM) inside. I used to haunt this place, when I lived in south Austin. Now it is an occasional destination, a place where my mind wanders like thoughts of a wayward ex lover - nostalgic and warm, reminiscent of another time and place, a different era. The woman who owns this stand has had it for decades now. Her customers are faithful, fervent and many. There is a good chance that on a weekday at 6am, you will have to wait in a little line. I love the breakfast tacos - the homemade tortillas and gooey gooey cheese never fail to satisfy. For lunch, the beef fajita tacos with cilantro and onions are a savory, carnivorous delight. I have eaten here a number of times and could never remember the name, so I always ended up asking another YELPER. This is a tiny trailer at a convenience store and gas station. These are Mexican street tacos and as such are a bit smaller. A real plus is they are extremely inexpensive. To me, their forte' are the breakfast tacos. They are stunning. The lunch tacos are also quite good, especially the Chicharones. Today, I rushed from a series of appointment to try and catch the end of the breakfast tacos and just missed the timing. I tried crying, laying on the ground kicking and screaming and even tried to pretend I was going to hang myself right there (not very convincing as I only had dental floss). No luck. So, I went for the excellent Chicharones. $2.00 EACH! I usually eat in the formal dining room which means I sit on the trailer hitch as I have learned that eating in the car makes me stay hungry all day as the orders linger. This place is cash only and easy to miss. I will update my review after I have their menudo. I just have not been able to get there on a Saturday. If it is as good as their other food, another star may loom. read more

I love taco trucks parked next to gas stations/convenience stores because you aren't paying for ambience, just usually great homemade ingredients for small prices. This truck is parked next to the Citgo "gas store" on Teri Ln. at the corner of Freidrich Rd. in SE Austin (only about a mile from the I-35 northbound feeder road). The menu indicates slim pickins' for ingredient choices. I don't know if they perhaps have ingredients not listed on the sign, like refried beans for instance. I'd like to try a breakfast taco since the Yelp pictures and reviews are tempting. I ordered 2 al pastor tacos on flour tortillas (don't judge me--yes, they should be on corn, but I was in the MOOD!). The flour tortillas were soft and grilled just right, so I was happy I made that selection, but--pet peeve--they were rolled together in one piece of foil. What if they weren't both for me? What if I wanted eat one now and one later and the foil ripped? Pet peeve #2: they only allow 1 small salsa per taco, so for my 2 tacos I had to pay $0.50 extra so I could have 2 salsas verdes de cremas per taco. A lot of trucks have large plastic squirt bottles at the window or on a table so you can serve yourself to your heart's content (YES!), PLUS give you a number of small to-go salsas. Hint, hint Taqueria Lopez. As for the pastor meat itself, it was extremely soft and shredded, as in the texture of regular, pliable pulled pork, but without the juciness. It was obviously cooked in a dry red chili of some sort because I had to pick out several seeds and pieces of dried chilies as I ate the taco, which I wouldn't have minded, but it had NO trace of pineapple flavor (my preference) and was somewhat bland. Good thing I got those extra salsas! They were topped with the requisite fresh white onion and cilantro, but the cilantro was minutely chopped to death and was dry as well. SIGH. So, for these $2 tacos, maybe I got what I paid for this time. read more

Love me some Ms.Lopez ! been coming to her taco truck for the last ten years when I started with the city. Breakfast Burrito hits hard 6$ ! bacon, eggs and beans with cheese. The Bacon is delish and if you wish to switch it up, you can do whatever your heart desires and she will do it. Piccadillo is on point with onion y cilantro (flour shell of course !). One of my faves. Also chorizo, egg & cheese on corn another great. You can't go wrong. She's makes all the salsa herself and it's fire brahhh. So whatcha waiting fer!! Come on through. Terri Rd. & Pepper Ln. Located at the Teri road metro market which is another bonus. Get your energy drinks and nicotine while you wait on your tacos. She also offers quesadillas and gorditas as well if you want lunch. I feel like these guys have totally stepped up the lunch game. This is easy my favorite Taco truck in all of south Austin. Ridiculous cheap prices.. Its a buck fifty per taco no matter what you get. There is something special about the breakfast tacos here at Taqueria Lopez! My husband has been getting breakfast tacos from the lady here for well over 10 years! The way she perfectly makes the eggs and the bits of bacon mixed in ... and then omg the cheese she uses is that special kind of cheese too! Her breakfast tacos truly are my favorite in town! I echo the rave reviews about the breakfast tacos. Great, no-frills tacos that are cheap! They offer a selection of ham, sausage, chorizo, potato or bacon with a choice of flour or corn tortillas. All served with eggs. I found it to be well worth the short drive! It is worth noting that this is a taco stand in a parking lot of a convenience store. There is very little seating available. read more

Great choice for a quick taco run if you work at one of the businesses in the Southpark office/warehouse complex. It's a small, nondescript blue taco trailer in the parking lot of the Teri Mart Citgo station. Tacos are pretty cheap at $1.50/ea. They also offer gorditas and tortas and what-not. You can phone in your pick-up order if you're in a hurry. They have yummy and filling breakfast tacos - the chorizo is great. They have very good corn tortillas. Lunch tacos are all very good too - try the picadillo or beef fajita. read more

My company moved into a new office down south, so I began my search for all the the good eats in the area with Taqueria Lopez. Seriously, if you want good tacos, always choose the shady gas station corner food truck over the nice restaurant. These places are about good authentic mexican tacos at a severely discounted price. Taqueria Lopez was no different. I ordered two tacos at first, but when the lady asked me for $4, I thought I should definitely order another (maybe 2 more next time). I ordered a chicken fajita, beef fajita, and picadillo taco. It came out a few minutes later and I was on my way back to the office. The chicken fajita one was okay (but I'm not a huge chicken person anyways), but both beef ones were delicious. I'd say they are about 3/4 the size of a Taco Deli taco, at over half the price. Don't expect any fancy toppings, just cilantro, onions, and salsa - all you need in a taco. I didn't ask for any specific salsa, but the default was provided. It was pretty good, with a little bit of a kick. Just the right amount of spice for me. I'm guessing they have hotter options available on request. read more

I would have to say this is one of the best go to joint for some authentic Mexican Tacos (they serve other food also like burritos =), south of Benwhite (HW71). They serve a good variety of tacos from lengua, any breakfast tacos, carne guisada, al pastor, chorizo, and much more. I usually get the beef fajita with beans and queso - $3, and it is so good that it will get your mouth watery. Their service is fast and you cannot beat the price on their tacos. I recommend this place after a long night of drinking as well. They serve, in my opinion, the best menudo ( unfortunately weekends only) in the area of South Austin. If you're up for a cheap date and you're trying to impress your partner, this is the place to go. P.S. no mingling on the side of the food truck. I do recommend this place! read more

Delicious food. She is open everyday. I've noticed a huge breakfast and lunch crowd. She has tons of regulars. After tasting her food it's no wonder why everyone keeps going back. Definitely a must go-to place :-). My Fav are the breakfast bacon potatoe egg and cheese or for lunch the Gorditas (hand made of course). Stop by and try it. You'll love it read more

It's hard for me to write a full on review because I'm enjoying these tacos right now. They are just so good I felt like I owed it to the couple who made me lunch to get them a review out asap. The truck is in a dinky gas station, but aesthetics aside, the tacos themselves are done right. We get tacos from here every morning as early as 6AM. Its delicious but tacos are kind of small and also you can call in you order a head of time. It gets very packed in the mornings but they are super fast. They are always changing the salsa up, so you never know what your going to get. I recommend the quesadillas the burritos and definitely the breakfast tacos. And they only except cash but the store is right there.! read more

Excellent tacos here, and the quesadillas, burritos, and gorditas are the bomb. Beef fajita is my favorite, and the chorizo tastes like its homemade, it's spicier than most places. The al pastor is another good choice. They don't have lengua anymore, I wish they would bring it back. read more

This is seriously some of the most bomb tacos I've ever had. The beef and chicken fajita literally melt in your mouth. I haven't had a single Taco from here that tasted bad and I tried most everything on their menu. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. First and foremost, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Secondly, they are so popular that you should almost always expect a wait. The pro move here is to book a reservation, but if you don't have one - anticipate waiting anywhere between 30 - 90 minutes in order to get in. Once in, you have the option to pick from a variety of tex-mex cuisine, including some local house specials such as the "crunchwrap supreme" which has an interesting backlore related to Taco Bell. Free chips and salsa (choose up to two salsas to try) land as soon as you arrive. El Dorado is known for its vegan tex-mex offerings so those with more particular diets will certainly be able to find something that works. The salsas are tasty. The serving portions are large. The flavors are good - there's really not too much to complain about once you're in and seated.

First off, the spot has such a cute vibe and decor. The staff are also very kind and attentive and it's always popping any time I've come for dinner so it always has a lively energy. I always either get the chile relleno plate or one of the enchiladas. All their food is seasoned to perfection and has so much depth to every bite. I'm also a huge fan of their salsa flight and queso and their chips have a toasted tinge which I love. On top of all of this, their prices are very reasonable as they live up to that Michelin recommendation.

My boyfriend and I shared the Ceviche Las Brisas, which was incredibly fresh with generous, perfectly cut pieces of fresh white fish from the Gulf of Mexico. For our main dish, we split the vegetable Enchiladas de Mole Poblano, served with rice and black refried beans. I wish the enchiladas had more vegetables. Everything on the plate was outstanding, and I truly think they have the best mole in town--rich, complex, and unforgettable. We were also celebrating a friend's birthday, and the staff made it extra special by surprising her with a complimentary Tres Leches cake, which was just as amazing as everything else we had.
