I've never had mocajete before and I was amazed how large the bowl that it came in. It was hot and steaming. It came and the flavors had a nice stewed tomato broth. Steak was seared, shrimp cooked nicely, and the green onions had a good seared from the fajita hot big bowl. I don't know how to compare this since this was my first tome to try this. But, I liked it.

Unfortunately, the pieces were really tough, and even with a sharp knife, they were hard to cut. The flavor overall was good; I just wish I could've eaten them when they were soft and tender. The other highlight was the fresh homemade corn tortillas that came with the whole chicken I purchased. The chicken cost $23.00, which is expensive, but it was definitely worth it. The smoky flavor was delicious, and the tortillas were great. The last thing I'll mention is that their salsa bar had a nice variety of choices. The pork belly chicharrones aren't a deal breaker for me. I'll give this place another try, and try some of their other options. I encourage anyone interested to do the same.

They offered to wipe down the grill prior to toasting my corn tortilla to help avoid cross contamination. The salsa bar is very clean, and the restaurant is spacious. I was tempted to try one of their refreshing agua frescas, but I had reached my sugar quota for the day. I think I've found my go to spot when I'm visiting Manteca.

I sat at the bar for nearly 20 minutes and the bartender ignored me the whole time -- no greeting, no heads-up about the new policy, nothing. Had someone just told me, I would've sat in the dining room from the start. No signage, no note on the menu, no acknowledgment at the bar. All around, a disappointing experience. I'll probably still be back -- back to my usual fajita salad -- but good things can't last forever, I guess.

The nachos were loaded up though and used real cheese... not that canned stuff, which is always a win in my book. Service has been friendly each time I've been in (I generally just grab a bean and cheese burrito or quesadilla when popping in here.) A location I'd return to when I want a quick bite, but maybe not on my top list if I'm having a specific craving.
