I saw this restaurant was highly rated on Yelp and the food pics looked good so my husband and I decided to try it. It looked busy when we got there, but there was plenty of seating and we were told we could sit where we wanted. Our server came immediately and got our drink order and came back timely to take our order. We both got the mixed fajitas and added guacamole and sour cream. The food came out pretty quickly. The fajitas were delicious. The guacamole was probably one of the best I've ever had and the sour cream was rich. It takes a lot to impress my husband with food and he really liked the fajitas. We have been eating that this restaurant for many, many years. It's definitely one of our favorites. If you can't speak at least a little Spanish you could run into some slight issues, but the food is delicious. They have the absolute best tres leche cake I've ever eaten. They offer both strawberry and peach flavors. HINT: I think it's cheaper if you go to the their mercado which is outside the restaurant, but still in the same building and purchase the cake. Especially if you're planning to take it home to eat later, like I do. I rarely have room for dessert after eating my dinner. If you ever need a large "sheet- style" cake for a special occasion you should really think about ordering the tres leche cake from here, but It does have chopped nuts on top, so if that's an issue make sure you ask them to leave them off. With nuts or without, your guests will be amazed. We REALLY miss the former Mercado. They used to serve delicious hot foods and had great prices on meats/chicken, house made salsas, etc., They got rid of that area to make more room in the restaurant for customers. read more

Music was loud. They were not busy busy it is Monday night. Service was slow and it took a few minutes to order a drink. She never brought chips/salsa so I asked. I think the chips were made at my request. No salt on the chips and the salsa was mostly liquid with a little cilantro and tomato/onion. My bistec mexicana was excellent as were the tortillas. What a gem of authentic Mexican fare. I was skeptical but walked in and was seated immediately. The wait staff was prompt and friendly. I was offered chips and salsa which did not disappoint. Their house salsa is awesome plus I asked for their hot salsa which I fell in love with. I ordered the lunch tacos which came with bean and rice. Those were great and the tacos were outstanding. Great authentic Mexican! We had a party of 10 we were seated almost immediately. The server was patient while we waited for another person in our group. There were so many different items on the menu to choose from. That was overwhelming in a good way. I liked that they had several seafood items as well as menudo. The food was good. The "small" burritos were filling and we had 4 hungry teenagers with us and they were satisfied. We didn't have room for desert. I saw a gorgeous delicious looking cake in a case by the register. The bathroom sink was really cool very odd but it fit with the decor and cool artistic vibe. My husband has had lunch with coworkers here a few times and since we were in the area on Saturday we stopped in for lunch. We both ordered a lunch special. Me: #8 a quesadilla and an enchilada - with chorizo. Him: #9 an enchilada and a taco -with lengua My daughter ordered Chicken tacos and my grandson had the nuggets and fries kids' meal. We also ordered the Cheese Dip appetizer. It comes with the cheese dip, salsa and chips. We all thought the chips, salsa and cheese dip tasted good and we enjoyed it. My husband liked his meal, as did my grandson. My meal was ok but it was the greasiest chorizo I've ever had. Like they hadn't drained any of the grease and heaped spoonfuls of the grease into the tortillas. I couldn't finish even half of it because the grease was too much. My daughter thought her tacos tasted good. That was until she bit into a large bone. She did not finish her meal either. My husband has always loved this restaurant downtown. We ordered via DoorDash from the Fairfield location. It did not turn out well. I ordered a veggie quesadilla, chicken fajitas and an agua fresca with a number of add ons. My husband got the carne asada enchiladas, which he said were decent. My reason for the two stars. But, he said the rice that came with it tasted old. As a side note, he said the tortillas didn't taste the same as at the downtown location. My order was a complete slap-dash mess. I didn't receive my drink, the *veggie* quesadilla didn't have any veggies, let alone the add ons. The cheese in the quesadilla was so salty (and I like salt,) it wasn't edible. The fajitas didn't have the add ons either. I'd asked for only onions and mushrooms for the fajitas, no peppers. I got 90 percent peppers, a few onions and two mushrooms. The tortillas weren't fully cooked and the chicken was flavorless and fatty. The chicken also had an odd pale shade to it, which made me question the way they cook it. I won't eat their food ever again and certainly don't recommend it. read more

Let me start off by saying this...we LOVE Mexican food and had heard good things about Taqueria Mercado so we decided to try it out. We tried to like this place, we really did, but it fell short of our expectations. Let me explain why. We ordered the chips and salsa (and surprised it costs extra as compared to most Mexican places). They were pretty good but noticing spectacular. I ordered the chimichanga with rice and beans which was very good, but no better than other Mexican restaurants in the area. My friend ordered the Mixed Fajitas and said they were hard to chew and she was not impressed. The restaurant is strange because you can see the kitchen from where you're sitting, and there are coolers, prep tables, etc. within feet of the restaurant's guests. What really capped off the experience was the less-than-mediocre service. The server was not very quick and it took a while to get water and the check. $25.00 for the two of us. This was the first date my girlfriend and myself went on. She had never had Mexican so I wanted to take her somewhere authentic that would let her try real Mexican food. I had been here a few times before that and had always enjoyed it and we did as well but I think we both were less focused on food at that time... anyways, back to the food; the food is great but inconsistent. You pay extra for the chips but sometimes they come out stale and cold and other times they're warm and fresh. I enjoy the salasa. The main dishes such as the burrito is filling and great. The fish is good. The tacos are good with many options that arent at most places. Overall great but inconsistent as just like the chips, the small lunch burrito has been both great and then other times filled with almost all fat. Want to get off the beaten path? Go here. Honestly, it'd be 3.5. Don't get me wrong, the food is good. A friend and I arrived for dinner, and were seated soon. Plenty parking is available out front, which is super convenient. My friend ordered the small burrito with rice and beans. I got the Quesadilla with chicken. The portions are massive, so do come hungry, or pack the rest to take home. My Quesadilla was perfect! Exact amount of crisp and blend of flavors and ingredients. My friend enjoyed his burrito as well. Prices are reasonable for $7-8 without the rice and beans, $10-15 with it. BUT, this place needs to take a few steps to improve. Like it smells like the cheap cleaning solution throughout the restaurant. Absolutely everywhere! The interiors are pretty outdated (I'm usually blind to these things, but even I could catch it). The ladies restroom had two toilets right by each other, which is so confusing. Taqueria Mercado knocked Taco Loco off the top of my list for good burrito joints. Coming from Chicago, I'm used to having the ability to get my hands on a fresh kick-ass burrito at anytime of the day, or night, in any direction. Taqueria Mercado has the best burritos that I have had in the Cincinnati area, ever. It's simple. There is nothing fancy about this place. They serve fresh Mexican food, cooked to order. I have tried other things on the menu that others I've gone with have ordered but I have never ordered anything other than the small Steak Burrito. I've never seen the large and cannot imagine how big it is. The small is filling enough. And it's not served on a place, drizzled with red sauce, topped with cheese with a side of rice and beans. I've posted a picture. It's a burrito on a plate. That's it. They give you their three house hot sauces. I've only tried their Hot (red bottle) version. Awesome. You eat these burritos with your hands. Imagine taking a small football into your hands and eating it. But the football is filled with steak, beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and wrapped with a killer buttery tortilla. Yeah... that's one tasty football. This is not a "Mexican Restaurant" like El Rancho Grande. This is more like a Mexican diner. This is the closest and best place that I have found in Cincy that reminds me of the places that I frequently frequented back in Chicago. With that being said, they're not going to offer you chips and salsa. If you want chips and salsa and/or queso, then order it. They have those items and they're good. Remember, it is a Taqueria and not a fancy schmancy restaurant. A small Steak Burrito with a cold Horchata is just about as perfect of a lunch as you're going to get. If you don't like Taqueria Mercado then there is something wrong with you. If you've had their burritos and you disagree with me, then you're wrong. Would I go back? Si. I typically go at least twice a month. I don't plan on changing that routine anytime soon. read more

Having been to Mexico twice, both the Atlantic and Pacific sides, I seldom went to sit-down restaurants. But what I do know is Mexican street food. Since I think street food is the best kind of food, I really miss it when I'm back in the States. Since I have to go inside to eat, and I've come here several times, I thought, I might as well leave a review. This place is, Lit. [da bomb], with a kaboom at the end. I always go for lunch, but I'm sure their dinner options are just as amazing. Lunch specials are amazing deals for the amount of, and quality of, food you get. Tacos and Quesadillas are fantastic. I don't know if its the tortilla they use or what, but they are great. (Note: I always ask for corn, but for some reason, they always get it wrong and give me the flour ones, but I have to say, compared to other Mexican places, even the flour tortillas here rock their socks off. They're kind of fried so they don't have such a "floury" texture) Their tacos are double-layered like the ones you get in Mexico, though they are a bit larger than their street food counterpart, but they are really just...delicious. Some people have complained that their meat is dry, but hey, I'd rather have a clean eating experience, than greasy, saucy muck flowing down my arm as I bite into the taco. And their hot sauces; they have 3 kinds that range in heat. They aren't hot enough for me, but they're still fantastic. Oh and, their rice and beans; I could eat them all day. Their regular fajitas aren't bad either. I get that when I go with my SO and what I love is that the waitress never once asks "that's it?" when we order just one (its definitely big enough for 2 people). And they have FRESCAS! The only thing I wish they really had though, were tamales. I feel like they could make great tamales. I'm too scared to try them elsewhere. It's funny how things can be connected. I learned of this restaurant in a most indirect way. I was in Mason at the Kings Automall and stopped at Taqueria Maya. The manager and I had a conversation as I paid the check. One or two months later, he was at Taqueria Mixteca in Trotwood (near Dayton). We talked a couple of times, and he told me that he was related to the owner of Taqueria Mercado. Since the food at the other places was good, I thought that this place was an easy choice. I had to use GPS to find this place, as it can be confusing. It wasn't far from U.S. Bank and it was directly across from Michel Tires Plus. I was greeted almost as soon as I opened the door. There were two sides, with the cash register directly back from the front door. I was ushered into the right side and told to take any seat. I don't remember anyone's name, but everyone was friendly. When asked for a drink order, I got sweet tea, and she brought a huge glass back. I ended up ordering fish tacos with rice and beans. Since it was Saturday, the lunch combos cost an extra $1.00, for a total of $7.95. Since I asked for fish tacos, that was $1.00 extra for each of the two. They were worth it. The mixture of onions, tomatoes, and cilantro over the fried fish was good. Thankfully, they didn't use some mayonnaise-based sauce like many places do. (I usually end up sick because some restaurants are careless and leave the sauce at room temperature too long.) The rice and beans were good and the portions of everything were just right. I was a bit confused by the sauces. Two green taco sauce bottles and a ketchup bottle, apparently with the hot sauce, where I usually see mustard bottles for mild and ketchup bottles for hot. The tacos didn't need any sauce, as they were quite moist, though only one of the tortillas broke and they used two for each taco. The price after tax was a bit over $12 and normally, I would scream bloody murder when lunch is that high for a casual meal, but the food was worth it. read more

The menu is huge. Didn't appreciate literally being rushed to order by my waitress being given little time to look at the menu. I didn't really get what I wanted because of the rush. Taqueria Mercado in Fairfield has been our favorite Mexican restaurant for years! Our daughter lived in Mexico for a year and she swears it's the most authentic and best Mexican food around. The bean dip is one of our favorites! The grandkids will devour a bowl of that with chips in nothing flat! They have a great menu with a lot of vegetarian options. I sat at the bar. The male bartender was on point! I didn't have an alcoholic beverage although they have a pretty stocked bar. However, he was quick, menu knowledgeable and I never asked for a single thing as he quickly brought extra napkins, salsas, refilled my drink before I even thought to ask. I got the chicken soup (freaking delicious) and two tacos. I should have just had the soup. Bc it was so big, I had no more room for the tacos.
