I met a group of friends at this restaurant for an impromptu get together on a Friday evening. Was not sure what to expect as I had never been there before. It was not too busy so we were able to get sat fairly quick. The food was tasty and came out relatively fast. I would compare it to most local Mexican restaurants with a bit more flare and decor. The artwork on the walls were beautiful and noticed they have an upper level to eat as well. Service was good with no one at the table with any complaints. I also ordered the daiquiri and it was so good the people at my table said they should have gotten that too. I was actually looking for a different Mexican restaurant and pulled into El Rancho Grande by accident. However, this was a great accident. The restaurant is large with plenty of seating. I was immediately seated and served water, chips and salsa. I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas which came out hot and fast. I ate here a couple of times years ago and was always happy with the service and food. I happened to pass by at lunchtime and decided to eat here again. The place has been remodeled and now has a small outdoor patio and bigger bar area. I ordered the lunch Chimichanga which came with rice and an avocado salad. The salad was just some shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes with a spoonful of guac on top. The rice was standard spanish rice and the Chimi was just so-so. The food was perfectly edible but neither attractive nor flavorful. The service was good and they still give free chips and salsa but I went away disappointed because I'd had some great meals there years ago. I ordered a vegetarian combo of a cheese cheese quesadilla, guac, sauce, and a burrito with "mashed potatos." I thought mashed potatos in a burrito sounded really weird, but tried it. Worst mashed potatos I've ever tried. Tasted like nothing, zero flavor, no seasoning whatsoever. Probably boxed/processed. I threw the burrito away. We had dinner here recently at the new location - next to the old location. I'm not a big fan of this place or these chains in general. Preferring the small taquerias and trucks. My husband likes both. Not this time. He disliked his so much that he doesn't want to return, thankfully for me. The complimentary chips and salsa were meh. The salsa is so bland. My husband ordered the combination plate of two Chiles Rellenos that comes with rice and beans. I ordered the Street Tacos, which are topped with cilantro and onions. I ordered mine with Chorizo. They come with rice, charro beans, tomatillo sauce, a charred jalapeño and onion. My food was ok. The rice was bland and the beans too salty but the tacos were good. The tacos were stuffed with meat! Very filling. It was just too much food. The street tacos are sufficient without all the sides. There should be an option for just them. My husband disliked his food so much he barely ate any of it. He kept saying that it tasted like it came out of a can. That the beans and sauces tasted canned and had that tin taste. He said he would not have been surprised if the peppers were too based on their consistency. He orders chiles rellenos often and I've never seen him so disgusted by them. He said it was the worst he's ever had and that we would not be returning. The service was fine. And based on the crowd it had - they won't miss 2 less people. read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican places in the area. Good food, good service, and a nice atmosphere. There is a lot to choose from on the menu so even a picky eater can get something. Like a cheeseburger and fries or some chicken tenders. It's also a good place to take a larger group. They have always been willing to move tables and make a crowd work. read more

Stopped in for lunch and ordered the chicken avocado burrito. 3 bites in and didn't taste avocado at all. Proceeded to tear the burrito apart looking for avocado. It was all chicken with literally 2 bites of avocado. So much for getting to enjoy avocado with each bite. This was on lunch menu and still cost me $20.99. I know avocado is not cheap, but if youre gonna charge $20 bucks, you should be generous with the amount of avocado you put in the burrito. Waiter who spoke little English didn't understand what I was trying to explain. Another person asked me if everything was ok, and again I explained there was very little avocado in the burrito and showed him what I was able to 'find'. He said I'll be back. Never saw him again. I'm sorely disappointed. A change in location should not mean a change in past preparation, flavor, texture, or or size, shape, and quantity of ingredients. The Pollo Loco - they changed it! Why? It's so awful now: * not served on a sizzling skillet * vegetables (mushrooms zuchinni onions) are SLIVERS as though cut with a potato peeler * chicken is served as a topping rather than as an integral part of the dish * the mixture sits in a baby poop brown watery substance that used to be sizzling cheese * charged $3 for extra onions which didn't seem to be included * there was a single sliver of zuchini and 2 slivers of mushrooms * the tomatoes are water-filled without the sizzling skillet * everything was basically flavorless * included one chunck of green pepper which I don't think is supposed to be in the dish. Need I say more. Whomever made this decision knows nothing about cooking methods or cares to provide the customer with a nice bite of vegetables - WHERE ARE THE VEGETABLES? Final thoughts: the people are great and one of the guys told me I can ask for the "old menu pollo loco", the volume is absolutely unbearable, and I'll forever miss the more peaceful experience of great food at the old restaurant. Had a rough lunch there today. Ordered a Ranchero soup like I have done a bunch. It's a beef/bean thing with enchilada sauce normally. Menu always says shredded cheese but they always put cotija or something, so I ask for it subbed out with shredded cheese. Comes out, no beef. Just beans. And cotija cheese. After a few minutes they bring out some shredded cheese. So I say something about the beef, and... nothing. So I say it again, nothing. We went to the El Rancho Grand reopening of the brand new built El Rancho Grande in Sharonville a few months back and the food was good. The restaurant is lovely with its new decor and the staff are great. 4 of us returned last night and will not be back. Firstly, I ordered the Birria quesadilla as I had ordered it before and loved it. This time it was much smaller...proba half the size. But the food and drinks are still good. But the main reason we will not be back....and we all agreed, was because 4 times during our visit they do this birthday thing, which most restaurants that do this just clap and sing. This was a full blown assault to the ears and Incredibly annoying and off putting. There are about 5-6 people banging drums, smashing cymbals together and blowing a whistle. I absolutely love this restaurant so much. We've eaten here several times and I feel like it's better each time. I had the California burrito which was a steak burrito and was soooo amazing. But once I found their mangonadas and street tacos my esteem jumped a star and from pretty ok to pretty GOOD. I used to like this place but I ate lunch here today and all I can say is YUCK! I got a beef burrito with beans and rice. The burrito was completely buried in brown lettuce...which was not washed properly. Trust me, I know unclean lettuce and that feeling in tummy when I eat unclean veggies by mistake!!! Don't let these people cheat you!! The jumbo margarita is 10.50. Which is the same size as the small margarita for 5.99, which is the same size as the lunch Margarita for 4.99. So essentially you are overpaying for the high priced.. not even good margaritas. Don't ever get the jumbo and make sure you say lunch margarita. Or they charge you the 5.99 and the manager even got a pitcher of water and poured in both glasses... showing the small is the much better deal and you have to classify as lunch not small. Excellent Mexican food and they make a great margarita. I had tacos carbon made with chicken. It was very tasty and the spice was just right for me though some might find it a little too spicy. I lived in Cincinnati for 10 years about 12 years ago and loved this place. When visiting with family I decided to give it another go. 12 years later and it was still good. The place looks like your typically Mexican restaurant. The service was super friendly and quick. I got the vegetarian platter with the mashed potato burrito like I always used to and it didn't disappoint. Very yummy. Like a Mexican pierogi. My family all enjoyed their food and we devoured the chips and salsa. For a germ freak like me, each having your own salsa bowl is awesome. I will back with every visit. read more
