A Wallingford gem! It was once a little wallflower, but I hear more and more people talking about it. And everything I hear is positive. The food is authentic and amazingly tasty and they are generous portions/sizes. More often than not, we order for take out, but we have dined-in a couple of times. We once sat at the counter and I was astonished at how immaculately clean everything is kept. I had view of the floor under the grill and work station, the hoods above the grill and a vent on a wall situated just above the floor boards - ALL of it was sparkling clean. This impresses me and makes me feel good about where I am eating. Sanitation should go beyond just washing your hands before cooking or preparing food. The service has never been anything less than friendly and efficient. The owner has come to recognize us and knows just how I want my burrito - no meat, extra cilantro!! read more

I just love this place to pieces for lunch. I load up a Carne Asada Torta with a bunch of the green sauce and I'm in heaven. If you wanna try some different stuff the cochinita, churizo & lengua are awesome. Be sure to ask for the habanero marinated onions they go great with any of the items if you like heat. Having lives in the North East for more than 12 years after California, I have always missed the Mexican wonders that California had to offer. However there are a bunch of little known Mexican restaurants in the area if you are willing to look beyond the strip mall or downtown restaurants. This taqueria is as authentic and wonderful as a taco you will have in Chapultepec or Polanco in Mexico City. I find lengua (tongue) and cabeza (head) especially amazing. read more

I should preface this review by saying I am a wee bit taco biased and love Rivas down the street. With that said, this taqueria is also pretty good. Their tortillas, dare I say it, are actually better than Rivas. The meats are flavorful as well. The reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is that the portion sizes leave something to be desired. Four tacos at Rivas would pretty much fill me up, but I can eat five tacos here and still have room for some postres or helado. It's funny how my language memory for food items never fades, but I digress... Anyway, to sum up, this place is not a bad choice, but the tacos are small. What you see is what you get! Authentic Mexican-almost like the trucks in New Haven. I got 4 tacos and that was filling. The tacos are small and $1.75-what more could you ask for? Discovered this today via GPS while on the way back from New Haven. You could drive right past it and not know it, and I have. They were doing a bustling business for lunch and most of it seemed to be "to go." The menu is extensive and very customizable. We ordered a carne asada burrito and two chicken quesadillas at the counter and then sat in the adjacent dining area, which holds seven tables. There looked to be another five or so in the main room along with a lunch counter. You pick your own drinks from the cooler next to the door. The owner opened my tween daughter's Pepsi bottle for her and delivered our meals on paper plates. Two containers of sauce (one brown, one green) are on every table. The burrito was large but somewhat bland. The quesadilla was one of the best I've ever had, loaded with cilantro and flavorful meat, not drenched in cheese. Even my picky preschooler ate the whole thing. One overstuffed carne asada burrito with black beans and rice, plus two chicken quesadillas and two sodas set me back $23.40. I would drive the 20 minutes just to come here again (and bring hubby next time). read more

How have I not reviewed this place yet? It's definitely one of my favorites, their tacos and burritos are phenomenal. The meat is cooked perfectly - not overly seasoned or spicy, which I appreciate. I'd rather get most of the flavor from the toppings, lime, and hot sauces. For the amount of traffic this place gets it's amazing how quick they get you your food, and how clean they keep the place. Cheap, authentic, delicious food, friendly staff, can't ask for much more! I love it here, definitely worth a try if you're in the area. read more

Great place, super fast service. I always get 3 tacos ($1.75 ea)and a coke for around $10 out the door. They're always great, cilantro and onions by default and there's red and green sauce. The servers were nice but the food wasn't anything I'd want to eat again. I ordered bbq chicken tacos. The meat was dry and overcooked. It had no flavor. This place is simple & straight forward. Let's start with the fact that it is in a small strip mall. No flashy lighting to announce its presence. You walk in and are informed to order before you sit down. No menus just a sign behind the counter to inform you what is available. I ordered a chorizo burrito, cost = $6US. It was served up hot very quickly, served on a paper plate. The burrito is served as advertised, a burrito, nothing else. Not the largest one I've had or the smallest. It was tasty.
