I recently visited this Restaurant and I had an overall ok experience. They have a big menu with plenty of options. I ordered the birria tacos and enchiladas Rojas. The portions were pretty decent. The birria tacos were ok. The consomé was missing some flavor. The rice on the side was ok. The enchiladas were a little dry inside and the tortillas were a little hard to eat. The horchata was good not too sweet. Service and ambience were ok. It was early afternoon when we were there. It was quiet Overall it wasn't a bad meal. I was hesitant to try the place for a long time as the reviews were kind of mixed. Plus I was not sure if they have good vegetarian options. One of our friends took us here and wow, we were impressed. Since then we have dined in here a few times. Food is consistently good. At times I get into trouble requesting them to take off any meat options from my order like refried beans but mostly it's fine. Their loaded nachos is better than what most other places offer. I'm so disappointed in this place. The Quesadillas were so bland..I couldnt taste the cheese. They definitely don't use cheddar or jack..I think it's a cheap mozzarella? Well it tasted like NOTHING. & the guacamole is not good either. I don't even know what's in it. My husband's rice & black beans were really SO BLAH too. The only thing we liked were the complimentary chips & salsa/refried beans they give you when you first sit down. They must've gotten a new chef because I don't remember their food THIS BAD before! We have dined for lunch at Torito Mexican a handful of times. Since they opened their North Haven location, it's been our go-to to satisfy our Mexican food craving. The menu is very large with many options broken down from beef, chicken, seafood, vegetarian, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, house specialties and so much more. If you know you will be visiting Torito, plan ahead and view their menu online. A few of my favorites is the Veggie Platter (cheese enchilada, a spinach enchilada and a chile relleno), Chimichanga Shrimp and Taco Gobernador which are tasty shrimp tacos. Every plate is a hefty serving and most dishes come with beans, rice and pico de gallo. Try to save room for dessert because their Churros are a delight with cinnamon, sugar and drizzle with chocolate sauce. One difference that Torito had always stood out from any other Mexican restaurant was that they serve bean dip along with the table chip and salsa. I love dipping the chips in the bean dip. Once our server gave us a complimentary Ceviche--it was a lucky day. We typically visit on the weekends for a late lunch (to miss the lunch rush). They always seemed to be well staffed. There are plenty of tables and booths with the bar being in the center of the restaurant. There is fun uplighting, festive decor and music. My husband and I went here for dinner. We have not been here in a long time. And unfortunately, I don't think we'll be coming back. We were sat at our table right away and we were given complementary chips, salsa, and beans. These are very good. Our waiter was very helpful. My husband was excited to see octopus on the menu as it's one of his favorites. Unfortunately he could not eat it. It was full of grease and overcooked and mushy. I ordered the veggie combo plate. It comes with two servings of black beans. However, the waiter was very helpful and gave me a serving of rice instead of one of the black beans. I couldn't eat the black beans honestly there's no flavor at all. They're just taste like canned black beans with no seasoning I really enjoyed the pepper and the enchilada was pretty good as well. This was a really good Mexican restaurant. We only got drinks and an app at the bar but it was good. The complimentary chips came with a good salsa and refried beans which were quite taste. Then we have the potato skins with Mexican chorizo which was a very large appetizer; 9 potato halves and came with guac, sour cream, tomatoes, and lettuce. It was very filling on its own. We each got a margarita flight which included four mini margs. My sister got the Signature flight and I got the tropical flight. Both were good but the tropical ones were more on the sweet side. Another one of our lunch place picks when I'm at work. I've tried multiple salads, soup and a quesadilla. I had a salad that was a little limp but I'll chalk that up to a bad day on their part. The other times I've picked up food it's been great. My coworkers have also gotten salads and the beef or beef & shrimp fajitas. Overall a good place to grab a Mexican bite. I love how Torito gives refried beans and salsa with your chips to start. Not sure if I've seen that anywhere else! Once we put in our orders our food arrived promptly. I ordered a Ground Beef Quesadilla and my sister ordered the steak fajitas. The portion sizes are big so come hungry. All the food we had was tasty and hot. I've been here twice, both experiences were great. Complimentary salsa & beans to start with chips (who doesn't love that) Margaritas are great, and portions are huge not only for drinks but for food as well. You're guaranteed leftovers with any meal you get. The first time i had tacos, my second visit i had "arroz con pollo" both were great. Wow, how could I have forgotten to review this place?! We came as a family of four about a month ago on a Saturday night for dinner around 5pm. (Kids are 7 and 3 years old). There was a cool guacamole bar type set up when you first enter with tons of waiters standing around. We were promptly seated in a booth in a section of about a dozen booths that were all empty....except one booth on the end near a drink service station. That one had 6 teenage employees crammed into it with 2 additional teenage employees standing up on the end of the booth. Of all the empty booths..we were seated in a booth exactly next to that one. Like come on, at least put us one booth away! It was tolerable at first, but then they started swearing and using inappropriate language loudly, making our 7 year old's interest piqued. After I gave glares, stares and eye contact that way, you would have thought that they would have gotten a clue, but then I commented that I would have liked for us to have an enjoyable meal and I must have mentioned it loud enough because those 8 teenagers cleared out quicker than cockroaches when the light is turned on. They carried on their work like they should have been doing the whole time, checking on tables, filling drinks, etc. Of course, over the duration of our meal they slowly started returning to the booth. Next, our server came over so quick that we barely had a chance to look at the menu, but we put in our kids orders. Our mistake. When she came back to take our orders, our kids food arrived. The bacon guac was so way overloaded with pre-made bulk packaged crumbled bacon (see my picture). It was actually more processed bacon then guacamole. Our other orders were good, but nothing outstanding. My husband ordered chicken as the meat filling in his burrito, but they brought beef. When we flagged our server down to tell her, she brought out a correct chicken one in less than 30 seconds on a scalding hot plate. We were in disbelief how they could have possibly done that that quickly, it was too quick to be fresh and not assembled already. I truly was excited for a new restaurant to try with the family that had typical kid food options along with Mexican options, but after that experience, I doubt we'll be back. read more

The restaurant looks like it's either been renovated or is in the process of being renovated? That being said, it wasn't the most inviting atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly and on top of things; making sure we had drink refills, checking on the food, etc. My husband ordered the fajitas which he said were bland. I ordered the fajita wrap burrito which was kind of disappointing. Like my husband I also found the fajita chicken to be bland and overcooked. Stopped by Torito to see a few friends but this was my first time here as I didn't even know they existed. We didn't stay long but we grabbed two green tea shots and got to belt out some good ole R&B classics. The food was good , I've used to go there with my family long time ago. This time my boyfriend asked me where I wanted to go to eat , I told him to come here and to try it. As soon as the waitress sees that we are a young couple she already seems to be annoyed just by looking at us , she was basically rushing us to eat and leave , kept asking all the time "are you guys done" " want me to take the plate for you" "is this finished?" Mind you I still had haft of my burrito in there. While I was still eating she comes with the check not even an hour passed by us eating , she comes with the check and says "the tip is not included" (ok? I know that ). A reason for a restaurant it's to be able to eat and talk and have a good time there , while we were talking she came to us and said , are you ready to pay? the card/money it's not here and I'm like "I know , I'm still eating " , she leaves , the funny things is she had two other tables and those tables she never went there every 5-10 minutes , she never asked them to pay even though they were there before us , and to finish when we gave her the money to pay , and it's 100 dollars , in waiting for her to give me change , she decided to say "I need a tip" , excuse me? I know how that works , she was already rude when I asked if they had coffee and now you asking for tips? after trying to rush us into eating? judging us for being a couple thinking we didn't had the money to pay. Great newer Mexican place here in North Haven! We tried their delicious Rio Del Queso Dip which had beef, spices & cheeses. Their house chips & salsa also come with refried beans with cheese on the table when you are seated. I ordered the shrimp & chicken fajitas. Really big portions, served with rice, beans & warm tortillas. The chicken was juicy & flavorful but I found the shrimp tasted a little fishy & overcooked. Next time I'd just get the chicken. My hubby got the chimichanga with the shredded beef. Also served with rice & beans. It was huge & super tasty. Service was fast & friendly. My husband had the 3 house tacos and said they were decent but nothing special. After drinking one soda, they ran out of diet soda(?) so the only other unsweetened drink was iced tea. This is what I'd call "Mexican restaurant comfort food." It's not going to blow away your foodie pal who never shuts up about that one authentic place in Tijuana (oh wait, that me), but it'll serve you a nice squishy enchilada that tastes distinctly different from the other flavors of nice squishy enchiladas. Torito is the Mexican-food equivalent of the Friendly's across the parking lot, only with alcohol instead of ice cream. It's colorful and cheerful; the food is correctly prepared; service is serviceable. Booths are big and comfortable. So are meal proportions. It's the quintessential 3.5-star restaurant for me. I'm rounding up because they cook the enchilada meats in the enchilada sauce (or in something compatible). The popular practice of using the same bland meat in every dish, with sauce over the top, annoys me so, so much: it's a relief to find a place that understands meat fillings should have flavor! If I were stuck doing something once a week in this area, I'd probably eat here a lot, as reliable, flavorful squishy enchiladas have a place in a person's life. read more

Torito Mexican Restaurant is a small chain of gourmet Mexican restaurants that was founded in January 2021. It was founded by restaurateur Ramon Michel. He got his start in the restaurant business as a dishwasher at the age of 16. He has now been in the restaurant business for about 40 years. He opened the first Torito Mexican Restaurant in Danvers, Massachusetts. Due to its success, additional locations quickly followed in Worcester, Westborough, and North Haven, Connecticut later in the year. Additional locations are planned to open in the Connecticut towns of Shelton and Waterford in the coming months. My wife and I recently ordered takeout from the North Haven location of Torito Mexican Restaurant (which recently opened in October 2021). We had a long, busy day and just wanted to get a quick dinner. After looking over the menu, we decided to order the Fajita Nachos, the Burrito Caliente, and the Cantina del Rio Enchiladas. When I arrived to pickup the food, the place was packed. It's nice that we finally have a Mexican restaurant in North Haven. As I saw servers bringing plates to tables, I was impressed with how authentic all of the dishes looked. I was also impressed with the fresh guacamole bar and all of the enormous margaritas that I saw coming from the bar. When I got home, my wife and I started out with the nachos and they were excellent. The fajita-style chicken on the nachos was a nice touch, and the guacamole and pico de gallo were excellent. Then we moved onto the entrees. The burrito was spicy but not too overwhelming, and the enchiladas had a deliciously creamy green tomatillo sauce. Everything was excellent! There was so much food that we had enough leftovers for dinner the following evening. We both give Torito our seal of approval and we look forward to eating in at some point in the future. read more

Jose Louis was fantastic for handling a table of 14 and dealing with my mom who is just brutal at restaurant visits. He handled the environment well. Food: food was good. We had guac, chips and salsa, complimentary fish ceviche and food platter which included nachos, wings, deep fried chicken tacos. For entrees: it was a mix of kids meals and adult carne asada, tacos de birria, cochinita tacos, chicken fingers, quesadillas, and some chimichangas. While handling a party of 14, you would assume some issues, but our waiter handled it well! While some of our steaks came out well done while we requested medium, our waiter resolved the issue and gave us a great meal! Drinks: we had about 4 pitchers of margaritas that did not disappoint. Verdict: if you are in CT and want some good Mexican food with great drinks and service, drop by. Nothing is perfect, but overall, it's as close as you will get. It appears that there is a totally new service staff and I management since I was there a few months ago. The feeling is much less warm, the service is adequate but barely. The experience is much like a big, loud cafeteria. The food is good but not great. The margaritas are all too sweet even though they have returned to the jumbo size. Food was inedible. The steak was chewy and had a weird flavor. The waitress/ bartender never checked on us after dropping off the food. When she finally checked on us I explained the meat was chewy. She said oh that's how they cut it. The bread on the fajita melt was soaked and could not be eaten. Then had to wait another 20 minutes for the check. The only good things about this restaurant are the friendly and efficient wait staff and the chips and salsa. Quesadillas are my favorite food to get anywhere so I would expect them to be great at a Mexican restaurant. Not so here. It had little or no cheese and was very soggy from the wet chicken filling that was not very flavorful. My husband got the burrito bowl with tough steak. If I could give zero stars I probably would. I went there the other night and spent over $100. I did not eat half of my food so I brought it home. I get home the next day and warm my food only to find a huge dead bug of some sort in my food. I was immediately disgusted and called the restaurant, I explained the entire ordeal. They were a bit apprehensive at first, asking if a bug could have gotten into my food once I was home. I then explained to the manager that the bug was clearly cooked into the food. I offered to bring the food to her so she can view it herself. She was OK with me just taking a picture. I still brought it in. They refunded my money in cash right away. so therefore, I guess they do deserve one star. However, I will never eat there again! read more

We're always up for trying new Mexican, and Torito wasn't bad. I'm not a HUGE fan of the salsa (something about it reminded me of tomato sauce rather than salsa), and my daughters were disappointed that their kids burritos came with a sauce drizzled over the top (it wasn't clear in the menu description). They were also sad that they received kids mats to draw on, but there were no crayons to draw with. The portions are very large, and my sour cream burrito was yummy, as were the fish tacos. My first and last time! Good things 1. Mariachi and decoration was fine 2. Lemonade was ok. 3. Is clean . 4. We order the two abuelos dish . Meat was tender. Bad things 1. The salsa was terrible. The prices are high when you compare with other mexican restaurants and in the area too. 3. When the food came the two abuelos dish the meat was tender but the breaded chicken greasy and the " pico de gallo" with american lettuce !! BTW the pieces were the yellow ones ! The rice no taste. The beans spicy and no taste either 4. The service very slow . The restaurant wasn't full . Looks like two things the cook don't have the ingredients to create the dishes or the person in charge don't know about REAL mexican food. First time trying this cool new place. We went for lunch this past Saturday. Very friendly staff at the door .. we sat at a table in the bar and were taken care of by Victor, the bartender. Didn't have drinks (this time) because we had to much to do after lunch .. and i'd have to have at least 2 margaritas if I even had one. And i saw the size of the glasses .. they are HUGE. I love how they put the typical basket of chips and salsa down when you first sit .. but they also put a dish of refried beans down too ... really delicious. We shared the guacamole bowl as an app ... this is some of the best guacamole i've ever tasted. You can tell it was freshly made. My partner had the chicken fajitas and raved ... I had a salmon dish. It was a special .. i don't recall the name, but was a top notch and very fresh piece of salmon cooked in a smoky adobo sauce .. served w/ yellow rice, a pinto bean dish and sliced avocado w/ lime wedges.
