Wow! I was truly shocked by a few things about San Miguel. First, the food is amazing. Period. I got enchiladas and they were phenomenal. I went with two friends and they loved the tacos too. Secondly, it just feels like the emphasis is on great food and comfortable setting - which I love, because it keeps the cost reasonable and the vibes light and relaxed. Lastly, we were greeted with big smiles, regular check ins to get us chips and water, and a hearty "thanks for coming" before leaving. Slowly but surely trying the restaurants near me in wheaton. I came here solely because of the other reviews to check it out. It looks very small from the outside as it's part of a small strip. But the seating is quite spacious and the menu is huge! It's a whole book of so many items: tacos, Taco dinners, fajitas dinners, tortas, tostadas, burritos and so much more. Upon seating, they give you complimentary salsa and chips. The salsa for the chips is very basic 2/5 stars. I ordered the following tacos: Asada Taco with cilantro and onion Shrimp Taco Cecina Taco with cilantro and onion All three tacos were absolutely delicious and unique. This is a hidden authentic Mexican spot in the suburbs. I highly recommend this place to anything looking for good Mexican food that isn't just tacos. I got a mashed chicken filet dish here and it was delicious. The piece of fried chicken was cooked perfectly and the top side was crispy. It was a tad oily though. The beans and rice and veggies are good too. I also had some of their tacos here and they offer lengua tacos which is not as common in this area. The shop is small and cozy and service is fast. The lady that works the kitchen is also the cashier and served. I am very impressed by her efficiency. read more

This place is the best hole in the wall taqueria in the Chicagoland area bar none!!! Run by Augustine and Wendy with an unequaled family feel. He cooks with "love"! I'm not kidding. Their pastor marinated pork tacos are bomb! Their steak tacos trimmed to nicely and cooked and seasoned to perfection! The Alambre taco with steak, bacon, and peppers with melted cheese...flavor burst! The shrimp tacos with three nice sized shrimp, cabbage and Miguel's sauce. Oh yeah! Campechano with steak and chorizo is flavorful. Served traditional way with cilantro and onion and a nice juicy lime, (not dried out like most places). It is awesome to share this review with others because it's too good to keep to myself, (even though I secretly want to.) The secret is out of the bag! This has become our new go-to Taco place. A neighbor raved about their enchiladas with green sauce. It is delicious but my son and I have come to love their fish tacos and shrimp taco plate even more. I could drink the sauce that comes on the tacos (served with shredded cabbage on top). The woman who runs the restaurant is extremely nice and the food comes quickly. Highly recommended! read more

Our second home is in Wheaton and first in Pittsburgh. We do not get great Mexican food in Pittsburgh. We look forward to coming to Taqueria San Miguel when we are in Wheaton. They have the best authentic tacos...corn tortillas and great sauce with fresh topping ingredients. My favorite is the shrimp. My husband gets a variety and likes them all. I do wish black beans were an option on the side instead of refried bean with the taco dinner. Also, they do not have a liquor license and I do not think you can BYOB. They only have 3 - 4 large booths but I think a lot of the business is take out so we have always been able to get a booth. Prices are reasonable. e.g. 3 tacos and side of rice and refried beans $16. You get chips and salsa when you eat in. Definitely a great find in a little strip mall. read more

Magnificent meal as always!! This is a mom-n-pop restaurant that puts a lot of love and time into their authentic Mexican dishes. The salsa is the best I've ever had. (Pureed, it would make for a killer Bloody Mary!) The chile relleno burrito is my favorite. It is fully stuffed and so big that I always have to take the other half home. Service is quick, efficient, and exact. The restaurant is small, cozy, clean, and the bright yellow walls are cheery and uplifting! I'm going to agree with the other people about the flavor of the food. The only good part of this meal was the rice that came with the chicken flautas. The chicken had absolutely no taste. I even dumped a whole thing of sauce on there and I didn't get any flavor out of that chicken and it's not very cheap either!! Service was pretty much subpar. Chips and salsa were barely passable. I'm addicted to the Chicken Burrito here which is strange because I never order Chicken Burritos and I HATE rice on Burrito. My ex-wife however felt differently and ordered it and begged me to try it. The Burrito is off the charts delicious and different than any place I've ever eaten. After seeing this restaurant pop up on Yelp while searching for tacos, we decided to give Taqueria San Miguel a try. I ordered a steak taco dinner, and my fiancé ordered a chimichanga dinner. We were not impressed. The beans were watery, like soup, and didn't taste good at all. the rice was also bland. The steak in the tacos and chimichanga was chewy, and seemed of low quality. The tacos were awfully dry and they didn't give us any red or green sauce so that was a big disappointment as well. I had big hopes for this place with the positive reviews it gets. I ordered 3 chimichangas online for pickup. When I got to the restaurant, I was 6 minutes early, online said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I waited in the car for 6 minutes to pass. I went in to pick up my order to find out they missed my "online" order. I then waited 20 minutes in one of their booths. As long as the food was good, as I could see they were busy, we all make mistakes! Got the food home, and it was bland. The chimi was deep fried with salad filler inside - this I've never seen before it's usually meat, cheese, and some beans. I will not be back it wasn't good enough for a return. I live two minutes away from this place and have passed it up many times. A friend from Mexico came over and I was looking for somewhere to take him and I decided to take a chance on this place. And I'm glad I did. I would usually meet him in Pilsen and get tacos at a few of our favorite places, so this taqueria had a lot to live up to..I had the asada (steak), the chorizo (sausage) and the shrimp. The meat was tasty and tender, the shrimp taco had four shrimp in it! Amazingly delicious. The sauce they give you with the chips is really mild, so wait for the sauce in the squeeze bottles. They have Mexican Coca Cola (be sure to have it on ice). Service was good, comfortable place, music not too loud, very friendly people. Im coming back, next time I'm walking the six minutes. Just ate here, new authentic mexican restaurant. The green spicy sauce they have here is awesome, i was putting it on everything. I ordered a steak burrito which was huge and tasty! The flavor of the refried beans wasn't too strong and the burrito shell was nice and crispy one top but not falling apart. I also got a pastor(marinated pork) taco which was delicious and flavorful. I will warn, the pork was a lil fatty and more like pork belly so some people might not like that but i like the fat on pork belly so what can i say. If you eat in, they bring you chips and salsa. This is a small family run authentic Mexican place with tacos, tortas and burritos as the main stays of the menu.
