Just as wonderful two years later. We've been several times over the years and each time is great. The drinks / margaritas are large - the food is great - and the service is wonderful. It still feels like the owner / manager does everything - but you never feel like you have to wait for anything either. He's a one man show and hats off to him! Tried the Hawaiian torta and Smothered Burrito last time we were there and both excellent. When you get the intro chips - I would ask for the sauces in the bottle - instead of the salsa that comes standard. The bottle salsa is much spicier! This is a great find! read more

Had never been to this little restaurant in a strip mall off Ogden, but they had some good food! We started with the "cheese dip" (queso): very thin and runny but yummy, with some tasty tortilla chips to go with. They also gave us several salsas. For my entree, I got chicken fajitas; never had fajitas with corn tortillas before, wish I had been given the choice of flour but otherwise they were good, and plenty of leftovers. My friend got huevos con chorizo (they have a little brunch menu with some egg options). I love that they had guava Jarritos, which can be difficult to find! Our waiter was very nice; at the time we went on a Saturday it was just us in the restaurant. Overall, a good choice for Mexican standards in Lisle. read more

A small cantina for drinks and tacos that are tiny as fuck. It has those tiny tacos you can eat in a few bites or less. La Parrilla is very authentic compared to most of these Mexican places but it's friendly to Americans it seems. Has good drinks like Mexican beer and pop to choose. The food is very cheap but not like it's the worst. Had a good date with some good Mexican drinks and food. It looks a little sketchy but it's clean enough to dine in. They have the favorite Mexican pop Jarritos. It's $2 a bottle. They also have beer but we didn't see this on the menu until after we were almost finished. Maybe next time but the food was average. We got the Vegetariano Tacos. It's $2.59 each. These come with cilantro and onions. Classic toppings and that's how they're authentic. This also comes with free chips and salsa which should be the case anyway like at any Mexican restaurant but I still appreciate it. Cool thing about this place is there's lots of authentic stuff but it could be better. It has margaritas too but we didn't know this until it was too late as it wasn't on the big menu over the counter. The tacos are okay but they're small and you have to order lots of these. read more

I hadn't been here for many years, but remembered their food was legit. I was Jonesing for Mexican food and checked out their website and reviews. Typically I'm a taco guy. It gives me a familiar way to measure against other places, but I wasn't in a taco mood. After reading the reviews I'd decided I needed to try the enchiladas with mole. Another review mentioned amazing tamales, and I hadn't had a tamale in ages. It only appeared on the menu as a dinner with 3. Figured they're probably small, and I was famished anyway. (Turns out they are pretty huge) The enchiladas elicited at least four "oh man!" as I scarfed them down. When I wanted a bit of heat, I dipped a forkful into the red salsa they included with the order. The mole sauce is outstanding! Similarly, the one tamale I tried elicited two "wow!". .Even the refried beans that came with the dinner tasted amazing. All in all this translated into a 5 star review. The flavor is good. It used to be way better when they were before inflation. Now they're just like Chipotle. They give you smaller portions of meat in the burrito and you get nothing more than just tortilla with very little meat and also they're expensive for what you get. Ended up at this location after walking the Morton & Arboretum and working up quite the appetite. My friend really wanted tacos so we ended up here. This place is so unassuming at first glance so I thought they were closed. Also with mixed reviews I wasn't sure of what to expect. Food here turned out to be pretty tasty and authentic. There is indoor dining, but it is not a whole lot. Surprisingly, for a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't crowded which was good for us. Chips and Salsa were good, & the salsa had a nice kick to it which I loved. We both got steak tacos dinners which were fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. I feel this place could be hit or miss at times due to the staffing, it seemed to be only like two people working there. Although they did a good job for my visit. One of my bf's and my favorite spots for a weeknight dinner! The restaurant has an interesting set-up with an ice cream shop at front and the dining area and bar in the other room. The staff is very friendly and provide quick service. For drink of choice, we usually go for a Golden Cadillac Margarita and a Patron Margarita. They come in large or jumbo sizes. Let's just say the large is plenty and there is no skimping out on the booze! Prior to the meal, the table is provided with endless chips and salsa. The salsa has a nice spicy kick. The menu has plenty of yummy tacos, fajitas and chimichangas as well as other Mexican fare to choose from. I usually order the chorizo burrito, which is packed with savory chorizo, veggies, beans and cheese. Very filling and satisfying! Keep in mind if you order a burrito, you would have to order sides separately. For me, the burrito is plenty for a dinner. I have also tried the steak chimichanga, which is also filling with plenty of meat, veggies and cheese. My bf has tried the chicken fajitas, which have been confirmed to be delicious, and is also a fan of the burrito selections. Goal for next time is to have room to try the desserts! read more

We catered from La Parrilla for Christmas Eve & let me just tell you the food was fantastic & fairly priced! To our surprise they also threw in a bunch of Churros which was such a nice gesture! He included pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, limes, 4 different salsas, plates, flatware & napkins. I don't know the manager/owner's name, but he was very accommodating & super friendly. I asked if he can throw in a grilled jalapeño for me. When I unpacked our food I noticed he threw in a whole container at no charge. This is the kind of business that deserves recognition! Definitely an interesting set up they have. It is very casual dining with a bar and wait...an ice cream shop? Yup. On the other side of the restaurant is an ice cream shop. We sat down to eat for lunch. There were a lot of dirty tables that remained dirty our entire meal. The chips and salsa was very good! The margarita I had was definitely not the best. Tasted very artificial. Wouldn't recommend it too much. I ordered a combo meal that came with one taco, one enchilada, and one tamal. The prices were really reasonable and cheap! I got an al pastor taco and that was very tasty! It had a generous portion of meat on it. The enchilada I had was a little spicy for my tasting. It had a lot of jalapeños in it. I asked for a side of mole and it definitely was not homemade or good at all. The tamal was homemade, but they mixed mine up with my friends. I asked for the red sauce one (a milder version). I got the green sauce one which was super spicy and I was unable to eat it. For somebody who likes hotter things, go with the green sauce. The red sauce one was good and in general the tamales were better than most, but unfortunately I was given the wrong kind. I would definitely recommend the tacos and tamales (as long as they do not mess up the order). We had two different servers, so maybe that is where the confusion came from. Definitely a place with potential, but not the best due to little mistakes. There are a ton of Mexican restaurants in this area, so competition is very high. read more

This place is the real deal. Total hidden gem, hole-in-the-wall, authentic, and damn good. Located off of Ogden avenue, La Parrilla's presence is not visible from the street, as there is no signage other than a large decal on the door. It's in a tiny strip mall, which is slightly dilapidated, from the storefronts to the parking lot. La Parrilla is on the small side, with only four tables or so. For the most part it was clean, except for an empty coke bottle on one of the tables that hadn't been cleaned yet. The menu is all the standard Mexican fare you'd expect to find: tortas, burritos, taco, appetizers, dinner plates, desserts, etc. They even have hamburgers, chicken wings, and hot dogs. The hamburger comes with the standard fixins, but the hot dogs come with bacon, mayo, cheese, ketchup (eeek), and sliced jalapenos. After looking at the menu board I decided to deviate from the ol' standby (street style tacos) and go with a burrito instead, and a side of rice. The standard burrito comes with your choice of meat, rice, beans, cheese, grilled veggies, lettuce, sour cream, and pico de gallo. The wait for my food was about ten minutes, which was fair as their was an order ahead of me. I received my food and headed out to my car to dig in. The burrito was large and well made. It was sliced through the middle, which I appreciated because although a plastic knife was included in my order, it certainly wouldn't have been able to cut through this monstrosity. At first bite, I was pleased to taste all of the ingredients at once. Everything was fresh tasting and delicious. The al pastor was perfect in both flavor and texture. Not a bad thing could be said about this burrito. The rice was a bit bland, though. There were trace amount of peas, carrots, and corn; certainly not enough to be a deal breaker in my book. Not the best rice I've had but not the worst, either. I was provided with both the tomatillo salsa and the roja salsa; the lady didn't ask when I ordered but I'm glad both kinds were included. They were excellent in flavor; very fresh tasting and homemade. I used them on the rice to help give it some life. Service can be a bit slow, so you'll need some patience. I only encountered one employee; the lady who took my order and made my food. I came a bit before five o'clock, so I can only imagine how long the wait can be during lunch or dinner. For nine bucks and some change, I was very pleased with both the quality and quantity of the meal. Definitely grab a paper menu to order from. The menu board only displays a portion of what is available, and seems to be a bit outdated, pricing wise. I definitely look forward to trying their other menu items in the future. read more

I walked in around 4:30 and the place was empty. About 10 minutes later there were about 4 tables being occupied. The horchata was not for me it was too thick. The tacos carne asada were not bad not great. I'm looking for some authentic steak tacos and have yet to find any near downers grove. The kind that have thin steak and melt in your mouth. True taco lovers know what I mean. The chicken torta was average. The enchiladas were a 10. Great service.The bathrooms were under construction and dirty, I actually walked out after seeing dirt everywhere. All the other tables had margaritas and seemed to be loving them.
