Had a yummy dinner when we stopped by the Señor Piquin in Springfield, Ohio! The restaurant itself was in a brick building and had lots of wooden tables inside. They had fresh flowers on each table, which was such a nice touch. As soon as we sat down, we were served crispy pinwheels and hot sauce. The chimichanga was on specials and it was beautifully presented, almost reminding me of a giant dumpling! You can choose from a variety of different options for protein, so I chose steak. It had a creamy sauce surrounding it, and also came with salad and rice. The rice was flavorful and the salad had some guac on it, so it was creamy and good. The Al pastor torta was more like a flat bread/ pita sandwich, and was filled with diced Al pastor, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. We ordered a side of grilled onions and peppers, which were spicy and went well with the torta. We ordered jalapeños but we were served Serranos, which were even spicier! The server was really welcoming and efficient. You can pay the bill as you walk out, and credit cards incur a fee. Tips are also separate and you can give it directly to the server! My fiancé and I are regulars. I spent my birthday dinner here and will for many years! We recommend this place to everyone. They have wonderful service and I appreciate the staff. After dinner, they have ice cream pops and they are delicious! My favorite on their menu is their tacos as well as their volcano chimichanga. I can't wait to go back and try another item on their menu. This is the most authentic mexican restaurant I have ever experienced, you can tell the kitchen's heart went into every plate they bring out. We tend to come here 1 day a week! Another great meal from this Taqueria, plus we tried the house made margaritas. The bartender is making his own syrups, his margaritas are refreshing and delightful. This Chicharrones De Harina (Mexican wheel chips) time Richelle got the quesadillas fritas and I got the pambazo and we ordered the avacado dip appetizer. Instead of tortilla chips they gave us chicharrones de harina (Mexican wheel chips), to try. We have not had chicharrones de harina before but they are a fun change from the stand tortilla chips. Went to the new Senor Piquin for the first time today. Inside the old Teaberry's on Leffels it's spartan but nice. I think they should paint the chairs diff bright colors or get a bright color on the walls, it looks more clean county kitchen than vibrant Mexican. Outside need some color too, hopefully those plants beds will have flowering plants soon. We forgot to get pictures of the entrees as we were both starving we didn't think off it until they were nearly gone. Grrr. Starting off, You get these wagon wheel chicarone chips and a spicy sauce free, but we ordered chips and queso anyway, and while the chips were freshly fried from tortillas, the cheese sauce had no flavor. I actually had to add some salt, something even my mom who thinks *everything* is too salty even agreed that it needed. It has a few chunks tomatoes, but no green Chiles, no flavor at all. It needed some. If something can taste white, it did. (I mean I have better restuaraunt style green Chile queso in my fridge right now.) Mom didn't like how watered down it seemed to be, it was marginally thicker after cooling, but I've never left filled queso bowl at a table before. I added some to my chilequilies but still left some. Inconceivable! Mom, who we joke is "flavorphobic", got the huevo rancheros. There's no dish with eggs she doesn't like, unless it's spicy. And while it was different from most that she usually got even she said it didn't have much flavor. She wasn't impressed. And normally non-spicy would be her jam. I ordered the Chilequilies, a longtime favorite I love traditional, texmex as well as half-assed homemade... and it was good, but very different from what I had gotten before from the old location. It hard a little wang of spice, but far from the slow burn of old. It was almost too hard to eat with the way it was all piled on. I had trouble finding the sauced chips under the chicken and fried egg. I think it just needed to be on a larger plate so things had more space. It tasted good, I enjoyed it felt more like a fork defying treasure hunt. The refried beans tasted good, real nice flavor so many scew up, if not a little runny. I was sad tamales were not an option. I'm always in the mood for tamales and they are one of my measuring sticks for Mexican. I think they need to reverse course and step up the flavors to attract customers, if you are that far off the beaten path, give people something to drive for. This town has lots of Mexican, mostly Tex Mex, it needs a more traditional yet approachable version too with Flavors that really sing. Currently, El Speedy Vaquero across from Bob Evans at Bechtle and 41 remains my fave Mexican in town. read more

Food was good, ( husband liked it a bit more than me because he's a steak man )... but I am a fan of shredded chicken and ground beef thats seasoned nicely. I found this place by chance. It's an old highway dinner now a GREAT quaint restaurant. Not a lot of seating but tons of character. The gentleman that took my order was so nice, helpful and offered their 3 taco lunch special. The meal took a bit to prepare, but came out HOT. He ran out of beans so he offered grill potatoes instead. Wow they were fabulous. The food plate came out and was so presentable. 3 carne asada cilantro, grilled potatoes and rice. While in Springfield for a soccer tournament, we did what any responsible parent would do: check Yelp for lunch suggestions between games. Considering how small Springfield is, our options were limited, but we found this place highly rated and decided to give it a shot It's a small dive located in front of a sketchy motel. We don't judge, we tend to prefer the small places. The restaurant has 4 booths and about 7 stools around the counter. It has that 50's Mexican diner feel. We were sold! The man working behind the counter was very nice and helpful. We had a few questions about the menu and he went out of his way to answer our questions. We decided to all try the tacos. My daughter and I had chicken and my husband had the carne asada. They come with cilantro and onions, but we also added cheese. They are very small, so make sure you order a few if you're hungry! They were very good and very authentic. For that, they get 5 stars. Service also gets 5 stars. I've come to the conclusion that I'm more of a 'Tex-Mex taco' kinda girl. I like my tacos loaded down (jalapeño, cheese, salsa, green peppers, rice, etc...). If you've ever been to Loli's in Tampa (rated #1 in Tampa Bay on Yelp), then this place is an exact replica of their taco's. I mean literally down to the tortillas and how they're served! Its a small resturant however very clean both the dinning area and where they prepare and cook the food. I had asda torta and 2 asada tacos, my dude got asada burrito and 2 chicken tacos!! the meat i tasted without any sause or salsa hands down the best and it reminded me of sweet home CALIFORNIA. Jessica nailed it. When you have a small, dumpy looking diner with poor signage sitting in front of a dicey looking motel, your expectations for great, authentic Mexican food go sky high. This place delivers the goods. Small cozy place is tidy (no shirtless Mexicans-- maybe they were off remodeling Sandy's Florida room off the books) with dad cooking and son and daughter waiting tables. Menu differs from typical overstuffed burritos and chimichangas. The huaraches are the specialty, but the tortas are exceptional as well. Make use of their red and green sauces. Both delicious. If they're not home made, I'd sure like to know the brand. Don't get up to Springfield often, and I was surprised to learn from the daughter that they'd been in business for seven years! This place is reason to find an excuse to go to Springfield. Great food, friendly service, diner atmosphere, reasonable prices. As far as I'm concerned, if you need to spend a weekend in Springfield, you might be willing to stay in the no tell motel behind it just to be a minute walk away from a delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner. read more

Everything, including the salsa, is homemade, hot and addicting. They have vegetarian options too, like the egg huarache and the burrito. This was an unimpressive, so so experience. I eat at taco trucks and taquieras regularly across the midwest and southwest, so I've had my fair share of authentic tacos. The taco: Technically, things were okay. Corn tortilla, onion and cilantro atop meats of your choice, served with radishes, salsa Roja y verde. I tried the Al Pastor (every stand should be judged by their pastor) and a spicy pork called Carne Enchilada (believe this is their variant on adobada). It was very underwhelming. Both meats had a modicum of flavor, but were definitely uninspired. It was disappointing to say the best. The salsa verde was okay, lacking in any flavor besides heat. The salsa roja was missing the pungent, smokiness any good roja needs (it also tasted a bit like a cleaning solution, so wondering if they didn't rinse their bottles?). I also ordered rice and beans. The rice was probably the best part of my meal! Soft, pillowy, with a subtle flavor I've learned from many taquieras is tough to pull off. The beans were very basic, again uninspired. Overall, it's okay. I would choose to drive to Columbus or south of Dayton for better food before coming back. However, If you need a quick fix, this would probably do. PS: they won't allow you to mix taco orders in quantities of 1. For example If you order 3 tacos, they must all be the same meat, as they won't prepare single tacos. This was disappointing and something I've never encountered before. read more

If you're a foodie like me trying to find a hole in the wall type of gem - skip this place. While the food is fine, it's nothing spectacular - just standard. You will need to know this is in a sketchy neighborhood with random people who seem to be on drugs walking by watching you eat. It is very concerning. You will also want to know they do not provide chips and salsa. You have to pay $3.50 for that and the salsa is the same hot sauce that comes on the table. So essentially you're paying for the chips which are nothing to go on about. If you order water you will need to fill and refill it on your own.
