I was excited for my second visit, timing my lunch on a western drive from Ohio to Indiana. Happy to have a reprieve from dodging the semis on I70. I wasn't as surprised this time by the location in a neighborhood, something that gives it a very welcome feel and suggests with the addition of a covered outdoor porch with picnic tables that this is a good neighborhood hang. I was late for lunch, almost two but there were some folks still finishing up. Good vibe, good music and casual atmosphere. I opted for the Takoyaki app which was tasty and not so burning hot that it scorched the roof of your mouth. Also the right amount of mayonnaise as opposed to often an excess. The Ramen Flight was fun in principle but I wouldn't do it again. I unwisely and perhaps naively assumed there would be mini versions of the full serving of Tonkotsu broth with Mayo, Thai curry and Szechuan with scallions. But it really is just the broth and ramen. Expected the Szechuan to have some heat and peppery lip buzz but did not. The Thai curry was super salty. Just missed some option of veggies and protein. We stopped in on a Saturday and there was only one other family there. The waitress was wonderful but everything else was underwhelming. The menu was limited, but had a few things that seemed interesting. We chose to get a ramen flight, some tacos, and pork belly. The flight is just three different broths with noodles, one with scallions. The Szechuan was the Tonkotsu broth with a Szechuan oil but unfortunately the broth didn't have a lot of flavor. The Thai broth was terrible in my opinion, neither one of us liked it. The tacos were pretty good, they were flavorful but burnt, so the burnt taste was overpowering. The pork belly was the best part of the meal, tender and had good flavor. It could have been an off day but for the price and the limited options, it wouldn't be a top choice of mine. read more

I had been wanting to try Speakeasy Ramen the last few times I've visited Springfield, finally got the chance to pick up Tonkotsu Ramen & Szechuan chili oil tonight. Looks like a cool enough place, lady at the counter was super polite. Ramen + oil was $19.99 before tax & tip. I know I come from a larger city, and maybe the price point is appropriate for Springfield these days, but unfortunately I was not as satisfied with the food as I had expected to be. The beoth was mid. The pork was great. The noodles though were just not for me. I've had everything from instant ramen to haven taken a cooking class making ramen noodles, but unfortunately I did not enjoy these noodles at all. They were way too chewy and also I've ordered Ramen to go for many restaurants before and they have at least heated the noodles up not relying upon the heat of the broth to heat the noodles in the vegetables. Quite frankly I ate maybe a quarter of the noodles. The Szechuan oil was all oil and absolutely no flavor. I only like the tiniest bits of spiciness to my foods, I started with a tiny bit and then a tiny bit more and then I just took my spoon and put some in my mouth and realized that this was all oil for the most part after dumping half the cup into my bowl which was only about a third of the total order size and tasting absolutely no spice I was left disappointed again. I paid an extra dollar for this. To me the egg was barely brined. I hate leaving a bad review especially on a small business. I think there's a lot of areas that they could really take this and improve. The pork was great! The noodles could use work as with the broth & the oil... And the egg. Literally in Columbus there are many ramen places and I've never ventured out. Anyway thanks to the vast accolades from so many people who know, I just had to check it out. We started with the takoyaki which was delicious ginger octopus balls. Something totally new and phenomenal. As an entree we got Thai curry ramen. I loved every delicious slurpy bite!! I met a friend here for lunch during the work day. We met up on a Monday, I was so glad they were open as it is typically an industry rest day. It is a small space, but welcoming and not too loud. It was pretty busy right before I got there, but my friend grabbed us some seats since I was running a few minutes behind. The menu is accessed on your smart phone, so make a selection before you come if you are in a hurry or just have crazy anxiety like me. I opted for the curry bowl made vegan. I visited Speakeasy for the first time with my sister recently. We were surprised at the location since it's kind of in a neighborhood location, but that's ok. We started with the Crab Rangoons & they were delicious, very hot and full of spicy crab flavor! Also very crispy! I also ordered the Szechuan Ramen with a side of crispy chicken, and added corn. My sister ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. Both were delicious, mine was very spicy (which the waitress warned me about)! Overall it was good portions and good food! Took home leftovers & it was good warmed up too. Advice: don't be worried when driving up! The inside is very nice, but not a lot of seating if you're a big group. read more

There was a point in time when I would have called this the best ramen in the country. I'm afraid that time is coming to an end. I have been to Speakeasy many times and the food and the service were both excellent, even when things where extremely busy, but that was not the case the tonight. We arrived around 7pm on day I expected to be busy due to the sushi menu being available. While it had clearly been a busy day (many items were sold out - again, expected and acceptable), we were able to immediately get a table. I ordered the flight, and substituted in the cheese ramen because the Thai curry was out. What I received was two bowls of cheese noodles, and one of schezuan noodles with nothing else in them. Both my friends enjoyed their food, so I don't think the kitchen was at fault. The server however, never checked in on us, never refilled our water, and then gave us one check without asking. If I had paid he would not have received a tip. I hope this improves soon, because Speakeasy is one of my favorite things about Springfield and something I have enjoyed sharing with my friends and family when they come to town. I would be very disappointed to see it decline. read more

Found this Ramen Speakeasy on yelp. Being a fan of good Ramen. My friend & I decided to go & give this a try. The reviews spoke highly of this place. Well, My friend who is Japanese & I really know good Ramen when we have it for a good afternoon noon lunch. We arrived just before the evening crowd was to arrive. Being Saturday, I would have expected a bit more people . I think my friend counted maybe 4 or 5 people already there. We found a high table as I was in a wheelchair. It didn't seem as if anyone was in a hurry to take our order. We were located at the end of the bar. Finally, our server came over with the Dirty old menu's or old ones. One large page an clearly didn't show all the items that were on the yelp page. After a quick glance on the page, order the Shrimp Ragoon. My friend wanted the ribs. To our surprise they were out. How is that even possible on a Saturday evening before the crowd even comes. Asked had many Ragoon in each order an was told 4 each. They were tasty & we both like them however very pricey for just an appetizer. For the main dish. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Ramen spice on the side. I forgot what my friend got. When our dish did arrive I looked down on the bowel and saw two fried chicken patties that looked like they have been cooked in old oil an tasted tasted like it. That alone just ruined the rest of the bowl. The Ramen could have been cooked a bit longer an was very tuff to chew. The broth was good however could have been more. Made the noodles stick together. My friend did say the hot green tea was good. All in all for price we paid, I thing we will continue on our journey looking for a better dining experience here in Springfield. read more

Whenever I am in Springfield, I have made it a point to eat here multiple times per trip. Unfortunately they are a victim of their own success. Two straight days with no egg in the ramen. Is it really ramen without the soft boiled egg? Portion sizes seemed a lot smaller than I remembered too. The food is still good but the crowd slows the service speed significantly. They are constantly out of items and this time completely out of tonkotsu broth. Got the curry ramen broth was alright but did overpower everything else. Shrimp was burnt and literally tasted bitter noodles were boiled until clumped together also found a fruit fly of some sort in our ramen. Speakeasy Ramen in Springfield is a hidden gem that exceeded my expectations. I think it's the only ramen place in the city so I was extremely happy to find one when I was in town especially during the snowy cold weather. The flavorful ramen and cozy bar inside create a unique dining experience. Despite the rain and a 40-50 minute wait, the friendly staff, good ramen and lively atmosphere made it worth it. I like going here when I'm in town! I always get the tonkotsu ramen (9/10)! It's delicious. My only advice is to increase the temperature heat so it is hotter when it comes out! The shrimp Rangoons are good (8/10) but mostly cream cheese. I like the sauce that comes with it. I've also tried the moto taco (8/10) and it's pretty good! A little on the spicy side. My only recommendation is to increase menu items. It's great for me because I only come out every few months, but I wouldn't want to eat here all the time because it's the same thing a lot! I wish they offered sushi all around the week because I can't get here on a Wednesday! Lastly, their cocktails are great! They are worth the price and tasty. I have been hearing about Speakeasy Ramen since I moved to Dayton and let me say it lived up to the hype. I got the tonkatsu ramen and ragoons and both were delightful. The ramen was flavorful and fatty although for my personal taste the pork belly was a little extra fatty but still tasty. The ragoons were 10/10 although they are ~$9 for 4 ragoons they are worth it.
