    Shrimp cocktail

OMG. I love this restaurant! I totally appreciate authentic cuisine. The lady behind the counter is so helpful because. She knows I can't translate the menu. I tell her what I want and she makes it happen. She also reminds me that the red sauce in the unlabeled squirt bottle will burn my face off and the other unlabeled one is "mild". Today I had three some shrimp tacos and a shrimp cocktail. So freaking good. I'm a foodie. I don't care what the outside of a place looks like, I'm all about the food. This is a hidden gem. If you like authentic, this is the place for you!

    Menu

This is a hole in the wall place with just a few tables, seating is ok but probably best for takeout. That said... man oh man was it good! Friendly service, good prices and quick to get your order out. I got a tostada with barbacoa - I am figuring out the barbacoa shredded beef I get in KY is not what is typically used in authentic Mexican dishes. Something a little greasy/gamey I'm not used to but others find delicious, sorta like lamb for me. Still, this dish was overall delicious and fresh! Also got one street taco with asada - also delicious! The salsas are both properly spicy and flavorful, none of that weak Americanized stuff!

Natchitoches, LA was the next town coming up and I started checking Yelp reviews in the area. El Patio, which had solid reviews, looked like an easy off and on from the Interstate plus there was a gas station in close proximity. It was perfect place for us to stop, stretch our legs and get a bite to eat. When we walked in the decor of the restaurant was a feast for the eyes. The chairs and tables were painted with bright colors and designs. It looks like Fiesta Time all the time. Victor, our server greeted us and took our drink orders. No margaritas, but a big glass of unsweetened iced tea was in order. A hot basket of chips and a small carafe of salsa was dropped off at our table. The salsa was good, but too mild for our tastes. The tortilla chips were very good. I decided on the #1 Lunch Special which included a Chille Relleno and a crispy beef taco. Both platters were accompanied with refried beans and rice. Wow, what a quick turnaround from the kitchen! Victor was back in a flash with our lunch entrees. Both of our lunch entrees were very enjoyable and spiced nicely. We both had happy tummies by the time we left El Patio and headed towards New Orleans. Next time we're in the area, we'll make a point of stopping in and try something new on the menu.

There aren't that many places to eat in town, so this is pretty much the best option otherwise you are driving 10 minutes. I came here since my client recommended it and we were seated right away during lunch. There was only 1 other customer. I didn't spend much time looking though the menu, and just ordered from the lunch menu at the back. I ordered my usual beef fajitas from the lunch menu on the back of regular menu. The portion size is small...and a typical lunch portion, but only comes with rice and beans. There are some grilled onions and peppers on the skillet, but you do NOT get sour cream, cheese, guac, pico, NOTHING else with your lunch special. Maybe with the dinner portion you do. When it first arrived at the table the skillet was steaming hot, so that was a good sign. The skirt steak on the fajitas was cut wrong (with the grain), but this did not seem to matter since the meat was still very tender, thankfully. The flour tortillas seemed very cheap which is the part that I was the least impressed with, as they seemed store bought. For the price, of course I did not expect homemade. This is a chain in the Shreveport area and I want to say they have like 7 locations, according to the menu. I probably won't be going back to any since I don't live in Louisiana, but if you aren't that picky with Mexican food, they're probably a safe bet.

I have been a patron of Pepe's for the past twenty-plus years. I am a Pepe's loyalist and…read moreenthusiast. I love Pepe's. I love it and I always will. So, I say all of this with a large outpouring of love. Pepe's has pulled possibly the biggest okey doke of all time. I'll explain. It was the end of the summer when I happened to be in Haughton and driving down the highway here, saw Pepe's from afar. And wow, from this distance and a rather high rate of speed, I saw at a glance, that Pepe's had changed. Like, it had a makeover. An extreme makeover. Pepe's of old was this comfortable, homey, free-standing yellow building with a very tiny interior located next to a strip mall. As I zipped by at summer's end, I could see that the yellow building was no longer, but that it appeared Pepe's had taken new residence within the neighboring strip mall. What I saw in-person from the car, and later online, like here on Yelp, was this unbelievable transformation. The outside of this new location looked fabulous. They did it. They got a new place! I loved the old spot but they always needed more room, more space, no telling what else they've done? But I could never find any pics of the new interior. What's it look like now? Not even here on Yelp. The much-adored yellow building is gone! I want to see the new place. Guess I'll have to check it out myself. So I did. For dinner one night. Pulling up. I eagerly get out of the car. It does look great. Even better standing there. They have a new parking lot even. This is great! I walk in. It is the exact same restaurant. The exact same place and location. Nothing's changed, 'cause nothing ever did. It is the original location. It's not a new location. They have matched, blended and attached the exterior of the old Pepe's to the strip mall. That is it. It is not new, not larger, not expanded or remodeled or updated. It is the exact same Pepe's as it always was and is. It has not changed. Literally, lipstick on a pig. Literally. But it's s good thing I love pigs. What I don't love is their sky high dinner menu. Hardly anything under twenty bucks. I've always been more of a lunch guy here. And that's when I'll return. But it was quite jarring to walk into what I thought was going to be this brand new Pepe's 2.0, only to see the same old, tiny, old interior hitting me back in the face. Stop by Pepe's for lunch if you're on a budget and feeling sentimental. Ain't nothing changed here. It's the same ol' same ol'. Not that that's a bad thing.

Best Mexican food around the Bossier area for sure! Food also came out within 8-10 minutes.read more
