Found this gem thanks to a social media foodie (thank you algorithm gods ) , and wow! It did not disappoint! Let's talk about what they're known for, the Al Pastor. First, she deserves a paragraph all of her own. Juicy, seasoned to perfection, and so good it has made me question every single taco I've ever eaten before this. Like excuse me, where have you been all my life? The restaurant itself-SPOTLESS! Cleaner than my kitchen on a rare motivated Sunday. The staff-so friendly and helpful it seemed as if they were personally invested in my food happiness! They're taco whisperers.....guiding to the heavens of Mexican cuisine! Every mouth watering bite was phenomenal. Not good-PHENOMENAL! Not the kind of place that says, "I'll come back if I'm close." No....this is a go out of your way cause everyone goes silent at the table because chewing is now the priority and savoring every last bite. We will ABSOLUTELY be back. Friday as a matter of fact! I ordered 2 steak tacos and 1 steak burrito......The tacos were just ok.....Not bad but not good either. Sorta smaller than what i'm use to. The steak was a over cooked. A bit chewy and lacking flavor.....But, I ordered 2 tacos and they gave me 3.......Gotta love that, right? The burrito saved the show. Nice size, packed with flavor. Much better than the tacos. I would pass on the tacos because there are much better options out there but the burrito was formidable......If I return, it's because of the burrito. read more

Absolutely fantastic service, very friendly and extremely clean. Attentive wait staff. Food was good, had the Wednesday special, fajitas, steak. Rice and beans though lacked flavor, but steak was seasoned well, and as an establishment known for their tortillas, they were delicious. Not pleased with the menu having quite a few items that illustrated MP or market price. Its best to be up front with the costs, even if it can fluctuate in price, keep it consistent to give the customer confidence in their order. Ordered three steak and two pastor tacos to go. $26 The steak tacos very wet and greasy, not moist, but bland meat covered in oily an mess, same goes for the pastor looked promising but both lacked flavor. Dry meat covered in oil and maybe a broth but the meat don't lie. They give you a pack of pickled carrots in a small plastic bag, no limes, no red or green sauce. They have a prepackaged orange sauce that may have been packed who knows when. I question the freshness of these packets. Look sketchy, what's in them preserving them? At that that price point you better bring it, not worth the price. read more

This location sucks! The carne asada was not the same quality as the other locations. It was thicker & cut into cubes, really? What is this, Chipotle now??It was myself along with 4 kids for lunch. When I went to pay the tab, I was informed that they added an auto gratuity of 15% for parties of 5 or more & dared to ask if I wanted to leave a higher percentage of tip. I said "Hell No!" Do not go here !!! I've lived in this area for my entire life and have always passed by but never tried. Now I know why. The prices are ridiculous $4 dollars for an average sized taco you don't even get lime or salsa for free I asked for cilantro/onion and they forgot to add it on my to go order and told me it was because I wasn't eating there. The al pastor literally tasted like chicken tinga, not al pastor tacos. The lady who took our order gave us so much attitude just for asking for the cilantro/cebolla they forgot to put in. Good. I think I prefer the Chicago location better, but at 4am, this definitely beats those horrible dog tasting tacos from in Melrose Park that everyone raves over. I have been going there for many years and have almost always enjoyed their food. I didn't even mind the hike in prices. $4 for a taco However yesterday I went to purchase a carne asada burrito and it had lots of rice and beans but not much carne asada. Very disappointed. Food is great, I always have the Torta de asada with an horchata and always satisfied.

This area isn't kind to chain Mexican restaurants, as I've seen places like De Pasada and El Pollo Loco [rightfully so] fall by the wayside. The reason is twofold. They're expensive, and there's plenty of mom and pop Mexicans restaurants in the area you can get more bang for your buck. This is a working class neighborhood. Nobody got time foe dat. Why the f**k do you think the two Starbucks closed? That being said, Atotonilco is on another level. They're a little more expensive, but the food is quality. I'm not sure the area is as receptive though, as this place seems mostly empty. It's unfortunate. Being that I work right down the street, I'd like to see them stick around since it's a viable lunch option. One thing in particular I enjoy about this location is they offer burritos. And damn they're good. I'm indifferent when it comes to the service, except for my last visit when members of the Muñoz family were there. They're awesome. I mentioned that I go to the location where I live in Pilsen, and we started chatting about the neighborhood and whatnot, while making sure to accommodate me. If you're in the area looking for Mexican food, you have plenty of options. However unlike many of the others, the food here tastes good sober. read more

I was actually driving to Cilantro Taco Grill (Lake/Mannheim) as I was going to get a steak tortas from them. I had just read a yelp review saying another restaurant (Super Taco) was two blocks down and was better.....Figure I'll check them out and see....well I never found Super Taco but I did notice this place was FULL (Either they had just opened that night (Sunday) or the day before. After seeing that the Tortas were going for $4.50 I ordered 2 Tortas al pastor, a Chicken Burrito, Fish tacos and al pastor tacos..... while waiting for food, I notice a sign mentioning Chicago Best....expectations REALLY started to rise after seeing this. After getting my food home I could say expectations was clearly met. Lot's of flavor in the food and the al pastor was excellent. (lot of locations around me seem to have the very fatty meat for steak) Although I'm use to getting tacos on the go this is actually a place I would want to sit and eat just to enjoy the food. (and actually try there fried ice cream which looks very tempting) Although this is the first impression I hope they stay and are successful here at this location. read more

Dudes. Dudettes. Amigos. This morning, I had tacos for breakfast, and it was glorious. This love affair with tacos for breakfast goes back at least 30 years, and begins with my dad's late night trips with his brothers from Addison to the original Atotonilco in Little Village for late night comida after getting out of their restaurant jobs. They would treat themselves to tacos al pastor and horchata, and they would bring home a few tacos for the next day for cousins and friends who couldn't make the trip. A little taste of Mexico City street tacos for everyone. Nowadays, we have the convenience of a much shorter drive to Stone Park to bathe our taste buds in zesty Mexican giardinere, salsa, and yes, that same delicious horchata. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The "mansana" doesn't fall far from the "arbol," as it were, and I judge every glass of horchata I've ever had in my life against that of Atotonilco. Very few stack up. So how were my "breakfast" tacos? !Sabroso! The adobo-ish sauce has a nice lasting heat and seasoning, and the pork used for the pastor is sliced right off a spit like a Mexican gyro. Tacos here are double-tortilla'ed for maximum durability and stomach-filling powers. Please do yourself a favor and eat slowly; enjoy it, and try to keep from filling up too quickly. Atotonilco is with out a doubt the best taco establishment in the word. I like Asada, I like Lengua, but this place makes the best damn Al Pastor tacos. The sauce they use is spicy and very flavorful that compliments the al pastor very well. I usually go to the one on 26 St. for this. When you add that spicy sauce and start using it for other entrees, then you're really asking for it. So I decided to try the chilaquiles not knowing that they added that same spicy sauce to it. And damn, they were incredibly delicious. It's very simple... Tortilla chips with eggs & chorizo and that spicy sauce with a little bit of sour cream and a side of beans and rice. Best damn chilaquiles I've ever had. Highly recommend this place or any of their other Chicago locations. read more

If I had an option of giving them -5 stars I would. I ordered my food no problem . When I get to the window I asked them if they can give me like they said it would be an extra charge of .50¢ . Which is very weird because I went through the drive through last week and I ordered the same exact thing but just smaller quantity and I was give a lime on the side with two additional sauce cups . So once I questioned me being charged. I told them give it to me anyways . I drove off about 10-15 minutes later something was telling me check my food and when I did they didn't give me the lime they clearly just charged me for and no sauce to the tacos I bought . When I called the First Lady passed the phone to somebody who spoke fluent English and basically told me that the only thing they can do is write my name in a book to give me my lime the next time . Food is amazing. Customer service is just not on par. Had an issue with how the order was packaged, called and spoke with the night manager. This awesome taco joint is a branch of the best alpastor tacos in Chicago. The interior looks much better then the other ones. I love the Atotonilco steak taco with sour cream and tomatoes. The breaded steak torta is very good. And nothing better then a chocolate shake to go with it. One more thing, this place has a drive thru. read more

Had to try it out since I moved into the area...big mistake. Took my mom for lunch and what a horrible experience. The food was super salty. Now my mom has high blood pressure as it is so as much as I hate doing this, I had to send the food back. When I told the server why I was sending it back, she said others have complained and that the owner has a certain amount of salt that he has them put in the food and that it wasn't the fault of any of the cooks what a shame... The food and drinks are definitely worth the money spent here. This restaurant has the best al pastor tacos ever made. The strawberry shakes are phenomenal and one thing I love about their tacos is that they stuff them with meat and it's like having two tacos in one. Many customers dislike the idea of this restaurant being a cash only place which I do not mind that at all but the only down side and bad thing I dislike is they Do Not Split the checks.
