I used to love coming here, the tacos were fresh and delicious. No longer true, based on my visit tonight. We ordered a variety of tacos, meat-wise. Steak, carnitas, chorizo, pork belly, and pastor. The tacos were consistently bad. The meats were dry, lacked juiciness, cold, and greasy. It was pretty shocking how bad the meats were. The tortillas were cold and flavorless, and their stiffness made the tacos difficult to swallow. The drinks were overly sugary. The rice and beans that accompanied the tacos were cold and bland. Just everything was awful. And, to top it off, I encountered a crawler of some kind on my way to the cashier to pay my bill. I stomped on the bug, but it just left a bad taste on an already awful dining experience. Stay away, there are far better places to get your taco fix. read more

The al pastor tacos were OK but the guacamole was a serious miss...almost completely devoid of flavor, despite looking freshly-made. I love the big space and bringing a family here for a weekday lunch is an easy win. But save for coming here for dollar tacos on a Tuesday, I'm not sure I would come back to this location. read more

I usually go down the street but a friend wanted to bring me here. I read some bad reviews and was worried. But I'm not sure why there seems to be some really unhappy reviews.. especially the ones that mentioned small meat portions. I'm sure they may have been valid but my experience was the opposite. I had a 3 taco combo and I was stuffed. I didnt try the carne asada but usually steak tacos have some fat. Instead I got 2 cesina tacos and an el pastor taco. The el pastor was juicy and flavorful. I didnt get any chunks of pineapple but I only had the 1 taco. The cesina was not fatty and had great taste. We got a side of grilled green onions and I had a strawberry shake which was airy and not dense, but had nice bits of strawberry in it. Topped with what looked and smelled like cinnamon and maybe nutmeg. The salsas are your typical red and green. Not ridiculously spicy and had good flavor. I'm totally coming back. Servers were very nice but one minor thing, we never got the chips we ordered. Parking lot is shared with another business so it got a little crowded at 1pm on a sunday. read more

The meat was seasoned but a lot of chunks of fat. The chunks of fat made it hard to each. We The burritos were almost $10 each, no chips provided even with in. I don't mind paying more for quality I thought it was overpriced. Only reason I have them a three was the staff was nice and the shakes very good. We have the strawberry, coconut and banana shakes. However, this time I paid close attention to my food, and to my surprise I found a fat white maggot! I became suddenly realizing why I got sick before. Let's be real.. Who doesn't love taco's..... everyone loves tacos. Los Comales is a great place right in Melrose Park right on Lake Street. There is ample street parking and two small parking lots next door to the restaurant. The food here is well priced, cooked just right and tastes great. There is an extensive taco menu and lots of other good choices, burritos, tortas, flautas, etc. On Tuesdays, they have 99 cent taco night and this places gets jumping. The employees here are friendly, the service is quick and the restaurant is generally clean. What I mean by generally clean is that every time I have been in there, I have never noticed anything I would consider filthy. There is also a designated place to put in to go orders. This is cool because it cuts down on some of the wait time for your food. If you want some solid food, stop in here and try Los Comales out. read more

This place needs more waitresses. Tonight there were only 2 waitresses for multiple tables, which delayed the service at our table. We weren't taken care of until later on, and that's only because we had to call our waitress. Secondly, they brought out the wrong tacos that we ordered. Even when I insisted I did not order that. This wasn't the first time they've mixed my order and have given me the wrong tacos. I get mistakes happen but it is frustrating to wait anxiously for your food only to realize it's wrong and have to wait again to get the attention of the waitress and have it fixed. Los Comales use to be one of my favorite places. What I'm quickly starting to realize is that their tacos are way overpriced for the size of their tacos. It is definitely not worth it. They don't put enough meat on the tacos and their starting not to taste all that great. Their "especially" version for 50 cents more might be a more bang for your buck because of the avocado slice and cheese that they put on it, but it still small and not enough meat. Their tortas and burritos are priced right, although I haven't tried them. I also came here for taco Tuesday. That's probably the only time I will come because their al Pastor tacos are still tasty. Really good tacos. Fresh ingredients. No cheese. They doubled the tortilla so it's even better and filling. We got steak tacos and the meat was very tender and not dry. My boyfriend and I walked through the restaurant and I noticed they have containers of marinated carrots and yellow peppers on the table. We were getting tacos to-go which is in a separate section from the dine-in area. It's a new addition. They also have these Mexican candies you can purchase at the check out counter. Why go to White Castle at 3am on your way home from the party or club when you can get some great authentic Mexican food? Yes, Los Comales is open 24 hours on the weekends, & this place is always packed after hours. I started coming to this place in high school. It was one of many bad habits my best friend at the time got me into. It makes me wonder "have I ever been to this place sober??", since it's well after midnight every time I come here, & I'm typically incoherent. But don't get me wrong. I don't have a distorted impression of this place whatsoever. While I may be well in the bag every time I've sat down for a meal in this restaurant, A co-worker of mine would bring me Los Comales burritos whenever we worked on Saturday's. The verdict? My favorite place for a burrito al pastor. They give you plenty of salsas to take with you, & even a little baggie of chiles & carrots. This is also the place where I first tried the more "exotic" kinds of meat. Since the tacos are so small, it's the perfect place to sample. Cecos (brains) and tripas (tripe) are among the few I sampled. Quite good, believe it or not. Maybe it's because I doused my tacos heavily with their salsa verde that I couldn't taste it anyway. Now walking in, it's spacious but not fancy. That's fine with me, I just needed to get my taco fix taken care off as soon as possible. We sat ourselves down and shortly after the waitress brought us the menus. Upon looking at the pics in the menu, the burrito urge kicked in. I recently moved back to the area and remembered Los Comales as a decent place for tacos. After I found out they .99 Taco Tuesdays, I had to give them a try. Someone suggested that I order carry-out online as they can get busy. So I did. Three times now. We've never been disappointed and I am making a concerted effort to try every item on the menu. So far, the steak and al pastor tacos are must haves in our house. I also like the chicken adobado and the guacamole is just to my taste; light, slight onion, a touch of lime. Delish.
