Anyone who is a true target fan will simply appreciate the fact that we even have a target here! If anyone is disappointed by the size, it's because they didn't follow the news leading up to its arrival. It was so clear that this was going to be a small format store, and for being a small format (like many others) it's a 5 star!! The only thing they don't vary is shoes, which is a shame, but at least I can order them online and return in store. I am Target's biggest advocate, and while of course I wish we had 5 super targets in SB, that's never gonna happen and having a mini Target here is great for ordering online and making returns instead of having to drive to Ventura. If you're going to rate this store compared to regular targets, sure it'd be a 3, but if you do your research and understand that it's supposed to be a small format, it is a 5! read more

I needed some of those fancy zip lock storage bags that you can suck the air out with your vacuum cleaner. I stopped by this Target on what must have been the day before school started back up because the place was a mad-house with college students everywhere getting all their dorm stuff together. To conserve valuable CA real estate, this Target is not only small, but 2 story. It took me a little bit to figure out the layout since it isn't sprawling like I'm used to, but I finally found their closet and storage section and they did have the product I needed. Checkout was made easier by them having extra employees taking care of people that day and I was actually assisted by someone who didn't have a physical counter or register or anything. She used her hand-held scanner device to do my whole checkout and I was able to get back out to the tiny parking lot pretty quickly. Speaking of which, that was a zoo too and not super easy to navigate without fear of an accident, though it's probably better on weekdays or less busy weekends. Overall I'd stop here again if I had to. It's pretty close off the 101 and not hard to find if you know what you're looking for. read more

Keep in mind this is a MINI TARGET with MINI PARKING with MINI amount of supplies! lol if you walk in knowing this you'd be a pleased customer. If you're expecting more of a "target experience" I'd suggest going to a LARGER location. It's a clean location, with good customer service that provides essentials without the boutique style that's scattered along the coast what more can you ask for? read more

I visited before the grand opening and will update my review once I get to go in again. I've lived in LA for quite sometime before moving to SB, and of course this Target is a "small box" store, with only select items. I was surprised to see that they offer groceries as well. My wife dubbed our Target visit as a "date night" This is the stuff you don't think you would be doing before you are married, but happy wife, happy life right? Besides,this was a cheap, yet financially functional date night imo. Anyhow, parking wasn't an issue for us, but we came an hour before before closing (11pm) I know it can and would be ABSOLUTELY crazy during the day. There isn't much parking, and judging by how MOST Santa Barbarians families drive and park, will be a nightmare during the day, and especially after school/work time. The parking stalls,at best, are "compact size". This means all the soccer moms SUV's and Vans will most likely take up two spots, rendering some spots unusable, unless you are a motorcycle or bike. My wife drives a Van, has kids, and unfortunately, is one of these people. In fact, I asked her to correct her parking when we arrived (because I don't want her fulfilling the stereotypical mom van driver. Also doesn't help she's asian decent too) Now, I understand why the parking lot developers and Target wanted to pack as many people and cars in the small spot, but its going to be really bad. Also if you park somewhere you shouldn't (near area, but not in target parking lot) you will get towed. I noticed the employees were rather dressed relaxed, almost like a secret shopper, not certain if they will change that after grand opening. Most were nice, but some didn't know basic questions, but all that will come with training and due time. My better half noticed some items are actually cheaper than Amazon, and will be buying some stuff here rather than Amazon because of it. I cannot believe I'm reviewing a target. Is this what my life is coming to? After decades of Santa Barbara saying a Target is coming... here we go! Worst possible location in this whole city. Parking lot is a hot mess, not even just the lack of spaces but the people (ex: one chick waiting for a spot but had her face so glued to her phone that she let someone else get it).. now let's go into the store. All in all it's a clean Kmart with target brands. The kids section was 1/20 of the Ventura target. It's almost like they shouldn't have even tried. I don't know how, but the prices seem higher. Not sure if that's possible but then again, it's SB. I really hope that the next one we build is legit. Because this one gets 2 thumbs down, I'm just being generous for giving 2 stars. read more

Came in here for some water for the wifey and beer for me. We where out of town visiting Santa Barbara so we stopped by and it was an amazing store. This store is a small and I mean mini small, but yet so fancy. The remodel did it justice. Only downside is parking and selections of items. They only have the essentials FYI. As happy as I was for a Target that didn't require a 30 minute+ commute with traffic, this one falls quite below the mark. The few staple products I go to Target specifically for (Method, Threshold, etc) cost an average of 5-10% more than at any other Target. An employee commented that management hopes people will utilize the store for picking up online orders, but with free shipping as a Red Card member, why bother? It's a nice thing to have but only because it's within walking distance. I hope Target reads these reviews and makes some changes. The small parking lot is usually pretty empty lately and I hope it doesn't close. read more

I was in Target yesterday and I spoke to the electronics department and they said they had one X Box Series X Console but couldn't sell it in store until today. I was first in line this morning at Target to purchase it. There was one left and another person behind me that was also interested. The manager of the store came by and said she saw me in line first so she would be selling it to me. I was at the register paying for the item when a third person came in and said they were talked to someone on the phone about it. The young girl at the register was overwhelmed and called the manager again and then the manager said she would check the security footage to see who was there first. She came back and said the man was SITTING IN HIS CAR 10 minutes before I got in line and she took it from me and sold it to him. I honestly cannot believe this happened. read more

This target is awesome! So many products in a relatively small space. I think we should appreciate this target more because it really gives you everything you need. I was so excited for Santa Barbara to finally get a Target. Yesterday, I decided to check it out and it was a huge disappointment. The overall selection was very limited. It was disappointing that more than half of the first floor was stocked with beer, wine, produce, and groceries. I don't personally buy groceries at Target and was disappointed to see that this is mainly what this store offers especially in such a condensed area of SB that has plenty of grocery stores nearby. The womens clothing section had a limited selection and sizes. The children's clothes section was very limited. I love shopping for baby clothes at Target because they offer a great selection and good prices. I didn't see any clothes for children younger than 3. The cosmetic section on the second floor had good selection and was fully stocked, so that was a plus. I am disappointed that this Target doesn't offer products that are different than what can already be bought in SB. Therefore, I probably won't be spending much time or money at this location. read more

Um FINALLY! This Target was so clean cut, has a good supply of all items, nice staff, and I can't comment on the parking but I thought it was easy to get to. This is a "small" target so of course they don't have everything you may think of but I was surprised at how much they could fit into a small store. Would recommend doing the Target coupon sign up if you continue to go often. I personally would go just for home stuff and supplies but they do have groceries as well! read more

Okay so this is Santa Barbara's first Target. This did the best they possibly could with the space. It is really cool to have it here. I will definitely be visiting for the needs I used to have to go to CVS for and pay 3x the price. It's a cool little store, that's for sure. read more

I gotta confess. I was excited about this after so many attempts by Target to open a store in SB and the loss of so many housewares stores here. The best things about the new store at State & La Cumbre are the lighting, the cleanliness and the tech corner on the 2nd floor. They have a small selection of many different things except snacks. Plenty of snacks. Were they highly processed? Yes, but hey, the Sour Bears were on sale and they are delicious. A corner of the 2nd floor is devoted to tech, and had humans helping customers and a plethora of intelligently packaged cables for every imaginable connection between devices. The square footage here is not enough to do a mini-Target. It's hard, for example, to find one's toothpaste without feeling in the way. So that customers BUY what they came for, Target needs to focus this store on what they have enough space to offer competently. This is an issue that every retailer deals with. Methods for solving it were developed decades ago. If they prioritize junk food, toys and drek, they may be successful here. While it might be a useful destination as a recreational shopping trip, I expect it to waste my time when I need to find something forthwith, so I am holding out for the full size one in the old Kmart on Hollister. The parking is going to light people's hair on fire. I walked in from La Cumbre Plaza and was questioned twice along the way by people apparently tasked to keep Target parkers out of their lots. What SB needs is more hardware stores. Saveon on Hollister and all the mom & pop hardware stores except San Andres closed ages ago, OSH, Capital Hardware's lumber dept and K-Mart last year, and Sears. Gone. Remaining are the Home Improvement Center (ACE) on Gutierrez, Home Despot in Goleta, 2 lumber outfits, and rustic and nearly secret True Value at the end of Aero Camino in Goleta. A Lowes would be nice. I was blown away by how much better the Ventura Lowes is than the HD in Goleta. It's worth checking out. It may make you wonder why SB shoppers are treated with such contempt. read more

Once I found that out, I tried to rebuy immediately bc it was half off. They would not let me rebuy for the same price and wanted to charge me full price for the item even though I had returned it not even 30 seconds prior. Check online prices! I needed 2 appliances this morning. Went online, was about to put items in my cart for store pickup, then decided to hop in the car to arrive when store opened to purchase them in person. First appliance was 2x the online price, second was "on sale" for $5 more than online price. So sorry to stump the sweet cashier; she had to call her manager who confirmed she should charge me the online price. This store is in a horrible hard to get to location with not enough parking but the worst part is that it's more like a glorified kmart with the bare minimum off the cool products the other Targets have because of its small size. I don't really see the need for it in SB. Goleta maybe. Suggest waiting for the Goleta Target to open. read more

Stopped by to pick-up baby food for my 9mo old...nearly every jar on the shelf was expired (by a few months!). Absolutely unacceptable to stock expired products, especially when it jeopardizes the health and safety of babies. Don't quite understand what this Target is all about. Many of the usual departments are completely missing here and the ones that do exist are faint reminders of what the store can be. They seem to have skimped less on the grocery aspect, which is on the first floor. Womens' and mens' clothing is a tiny selection-no shoes for either. It was an unsatisfying experience to visit here today. There are only two single stall restrooms for the entire store to serve both employees and customers, and they are located on the second floor at the very rear of the baby department. Most off-putting are the prices. Target lost its way many years ago when it moved from being a brilliant alternative to Walmart to being a full priced version of itself, despite the fact that it is a low service big box store. Some people will be glad to have a shadow version of the store in Santa Barbara but I just wasn't able to get the point...not going back. read more

I was so happy to finally have a target. I recently had a baby and thought about how great it will be to buy baby clothes at target but sadly they don't really have any baby clothes, mostly 12 months and up. I like the fact that there is self check out but almost every time I use it, the machine errors and says a store employee has to come assist me. I wait and wait and while I see so many employees standing around doing nothing, no one comes to assist. I've had several look at me and seem aware that the machine isn't working but not one has come over to help. I have had to walk over to them and ask for help. Also I did a full grocery shopping trip here so I had to check out at the counter. Again while there were about 5 employees standing around chatting it up, not one person came over to offer to bag so my husband had to bag 200$ worth of groceries. I feel like this store could be great but the customer service is so awful. If you have a stroller and the elevator is out of service, your out of luck and can't go up to the 2nd floor. read more

Target is sorely needed in this area, but this one: a) location is terrible, b) it's so small they don't have real fitting rooms (no attendant, have to press a button), and c) the clothing selection has a GREAT DEAL is poorly presented and scarce. I just had an opportunity to shop at the new Target in Santa Barbara. My wife can't stand this Target. She's talked about it in such negative words that I was prepared for the worse. Much to her dismay, I had the opposite experience. As a guy who has literally spent hours following my wife through every aisle of Target stores through the western United States, this store was amazing. First, i would imagine that their inventory represents what most people tend to buy with a few brand options to choose from. This makes shopping so much easier. Second, you can shop for the basics in 20 minutes or less. You can grab a gift quickly. You can grab some groceries quickly. Awesome! Third, it fits Santa Barbara and reuses a previously closed building, which is awesome for everyone. Parking is a bit complicated, which is why I have only four stars. Word on the street is that the big normal Target will be in Goleta where the Kmart used to be. Anyone that has a problem with the boutique Target, your Target is coming!! read more

OK- so maybe don't expect those amazing Targets they have in other cities. This is very much like a satellite store/neighborhood grocery. It is fairly small, not a lot of clothing or home goods but a lot of square footage devoted to food and alcohol. There is a decent sized Beauty section and a small home/bedding/bath section and more than 1/3 of these shelves were empty. Since they opened 2 days ago I can't believe they sold out of everything...maybe it's just growing pains. No working bathroom, parking lot has spaces but claustrophobic (think Trader Joes). Guessing they are just there until Goleta location opens up. Other than online pickup, can't see a reason to return. Like another reviewer pointed out, prices here seemed a tad higher than what you'd find online or at larger Targets. Tip: wear sunglasses and hat upstairs under the huge skylight- it is soooo bright! read more

It's nice to have a store open at 7am so I can get shopping done with my baby. Diapers, nursing pads (which btw are 6.99 compared to 11.99 down the road at CVS), snacks, a card for my mother in laws bday - all easily accessible and in one place. I am sure the big target will have more but this is great for quick shopping. read more

So happy there's finally a Target in Santa Barbara! It's obviously a great place to have here and is very handy, but the only issues I have with it are that it's very small, location is not the best, and parking is kind of a hassle. It has everything a big target would have but it's just very compact. Also because it's right on the corner, that's why it's small. However, I'm not complaining for finally having a Target here! read more
