My BF surprised me with a trip over Valentine's weekend in Amish country and while we did not stay at the Honey Run Inn, we did experience a fantastic dinner on our first night here. The grounds were gorgeous and 2 of these stars simply go to Oscar, the resident cat mascot here. Oscar walked the hilly trail with us and accompanied us on our tour of the grounds. It was so sweet and he was so friendly and plump and surprisingly agile. My BF was so enamored with Oscar that we might have to stay at one of the honeycomb suites just to lure Oscar into staying a night with us, LOL! So back to the restaurant here--wow! I'm not easily impressed with fine dining or upscale American fare but this place gave me a great experience. We didn't have reservations but they were able to offer us the last table for two. The ambiance was classy, modern with a classic twist and filled with complementary lighting for that romantic view. Our waiter was animated, warm and very knowledgeable about all the dishes. The free "bread" that was offered was so unique and good we bought a second helping. I had a clams tapas dish that had a good enough portion to keep me full! BF and I were impressed with the taste, presentation, speed of service and menu selection. It was more upscale but not overly expensive. Just wonderful. Fancy. Yes out in the woods, in Amish country. Sinatra, Bennett, Martin...throwback 50s music playing. Fits with vibe. Small and creative menu. Had an extraordinary strip steak meal. This place is a fabulous find. In Holmes County, what you mostly get are tourist traps trying to convince you there's something more to Amish cooking than typical Midwestern cuisine, as if for some reason the Amish have some secret. They don't. They're Midwestern cooks, definitely used to cooking for larger families than the typical Midwestern home cook, but they're using the same recipes and techniques. It's perfectly good Midwestern food, and generally lots of it, but there's nothing special about Amish cooking than any other small-town Midwestern homecooking. There are also a few joints for locals, and they're great, but they aren't fine dining. Tarragon, at the Inn at Honey Run, is the only fine dining option in the entire county. The food at Tarragon is thoughtful, the service professional but friendly, the ambience really great. Beautiful understated decor that reflects the lovely rural setting. Floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over woods and farms below, including homes visible through the woods where you can see people carrying lanterns after dark. Music, mostly light jazz, at just the right level, tables just far enough apart. I would very happily return to this place. This place isn't for everyone. The reviewer who recommended Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen as providing "similar ambiance and food options" just made me laugh. Mrs. Yoder's is great, don't get me wrong -- excellent fried chicken -- but it's a buffet that charges by the pound ($8 bucks a pound last time I checked), so saying it's got similar food and ambiance is just silly. Or recommending you drive 45 minutes to Massillon or Dover when there's a great restaurant right here? They've been having staffing issues since the beginning of the pandemic, but they seem to be trying hard. read more

We had a reservation at 7:45pm but we got to the area earlier than expected so I called the place if it was ok to come in earlier (6pm), the person said ok but might be a little wait and we can have a drink at the bar while waiting..sure no problem. We got to the restaurant only to be told by the waiter, they will STILL sit us at 7:45pm! Mind you there were about 10 tables open, only 2-3 tables had diners. Unfathomable!!! read more

After fine dining at restaurants like Eddie Merlot's, Smith & Wollensky, and Carlo & Johnny the Tarragon was a huge disappointment. Upon our arrival the receptionist looked up but never greeted us. The waiter, Isaiah, lacked the professionalism that is pivotal at a fine dining establishment. The food also left little to be desired and was undercooked. My wife and I tried a random getaway this year for our anniversary, and ended up settling at The Inn at Honey Run...settling is an understatement, because this place was fantastic. We booked reservations for 6:00 for dinner. Prior to arriving, we had scoped out the menu, and it looked almost like a prix fixe situation, however our server advised we could order whatever we wanted. Seeing as that we wanted to try everything, we started off with ALL the appetizers. I must mention that upon arrival, if you are staying in a "Club Level" accommodation, you have access to a small plate and wine of your choosing. We chose the Roasted Pork Belly, with Bread/Butter pickles, cold braised red cabbage, sweet mustard, on grilled bread. It was to die for! For appetizers, we got the Littleneck Clams, which are stuffed with pork belly, slivered garlic, shallots, lemon, white wine, parsley, and croutons. 7/10! Fried calamari, which is served with olives, capers, sun dried tomatoes, basil, and lemon/herb mayo. This was great! 8/10! Prior to apps, we received the bread course. This was our absolute favorite. Crispy, fluffy flatbread (pita-esque) that came with a tomato/basic butter and parm to sprinkle on top. I was slightly angry the next day that my wife and killed the leftovers without leaving me any. Bratwurst with mustard, served with pickled apples and braised red cabbage. Standout of the app round. 10/10! For next course, wife had the miso mushroom soup, which was delicious but I didn't snag a photo. I had the crispy duck salad, which was every bit as good as it sounds. Entree round! My wife had the crispy salmon, which again I didn't snag a photo of, but I did taste and it was fantastic. I myself had the pork chop with peach chutney, corn salad, and salt roasted potatoes. It was incredible! For dessert, I had the semi-frozen key lime dish, and without question, I can say it was one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted. It's hard to know where to start. Superb. Just superb. Here's the back story. I am here on business so I don't know the area. If you are reading this then you know that Millersburg/Berlin/Holmes county is a beautiful part of Ohio many people travel to experience the Amish countryside. Then you also know that the area is farmland and countryside so, while beautiful it is not jammed packed with industry and restaurants. In that setting TARRAGON is the restaurant of the Honey Run Inn. It is tucked away off a remote (at least to me) state road and when i entered the property I felt the zen and nature take over my soul...a bit much? Well, if you go there you will understand. The restaurant. Perfect for an adult dinner. Kids will hate it. And parent will enjoy the tranquil ambience. The menu is be curated by the chef with fresh and local ingredients. My attendant recommended everything I had and it was perfect. The bratwurst for app was spectacular; then miso soup was beautiful and delicious; the Bibb salad with tarragon was art; and the chicken with mushrooms and croquette was rich and out of this world. This is really sad when so many restaurants are struggling to survive but I tried to make a reservation for 11 people and the chef would not accommodate this large of a group in spite of photos showing large tables in the restaurant. I have been there giving them my business on at least 4 occasions. This is how they treat their return business. Wow. By this point, we had been standing there for 22 minutes, watching as one table finished their meal and no one else was waiting to be seated. WE simply decided to leave. It was then that we witnessed a couple walk in without a reservation. To our disbelief, they were immediately seated without any delay or hesitation. This experience left us feeling discriminated against and prejudiced. It was disheartening to witness such blatant favoritism and inconsistency in their seating policy. We strongly advise anyone visiting Berlin, Ohio to avoid this particular restaurant if you are against prejudice and unfair treatment. We tried to call Tarragon for a reservation that night and no one answered the phone. We tried to make a reservation on the restaurant website - no reservations were available. We decided to just drive to the restaurant. When we arrived there was one couple in the restaurant. The person who met us was clearly not interested in providing service and was just very weird in his explanation. So this place is nice for Amish Country. It's definitely the nicest restaurant you are going to find there. However, at the end of the day, it isn't that great and looks like a hotel lobby restaurant. Amuse bouche is a nice little surprise - ours was a crab salad on cucumber Bread is okay, generally basic served with butter Gnocchi was good, but a bit heavy on the blue cheese. It was overpowering. Entree was good although there was A LOT of butter on the filet. The fried onions were tasty and the fingerlings were good, but lack flavor. I swapped them instead of the aspargus. They changed the menu a few months ago and unfortunately removed everything we ordered (a wonderful Ribeye, and great breakfast options such as waffle with fresh fruit). We tried the replacements and did not enjoy them. We really miss the wonderful meals we had here but will not be returning. read more

Food is good front desk not so much . We have come here and was disappointed that Sunday lunch service was discontinued. Driving 1 1/2 for a relaxing time... resulted in the opportunity for my wife and I to branch out .. Front desk gave us Permission to use the inns bathroom... thanks for your hospitality! You have to check this place out! Went there with my fiancée for a quick night out in the middle of a short vacation. The service was incredible. Karen was always there when our drinks got a little low, and she was able to give us tips and a few guide books for the general area. She was hands down one of the best servers I have ever had. The food, was amazing. I don't really do salads alot but the salad was great. Fiancée had the mushroom miso soup and it was also amazing. She had the chicken entre and I had the steak. Both were good, but I should have ordered the chicken. It was awesome. The drinks we tried were also to die for. I can't say enough good about this place. The atmosphere is charming and intimate. What a fabulous restaurant. We ate at Tarragon over the course of several days while staying a The Inn at Honey Run. Yes, it's the on-site restaurant of The Inn at Honey Run but it would be worth the visit regardless if you were in the area. The menu is seasonal and always changing and the staff are enthusiastic to offer suggestions. We ate here for several meals during our Honey Run stay and NEVER had a bad meal. During our dinners, we always ordered the butternut squash bisque. It always was creamy and sweet but not overpowering and complemented every entree we tried over the week. For the main course, my favorite dish was the roasted pork belly served with fennel salad, orange and coconut rice. The pork just melted in your mouth. It was clear a very talented chef made that dish. But brunch, OH, the brunch. I am just dreaming about it. I love a good brunch, and when it's done right you know it. The stacked french toast with blueberry compote, whipped mascarpone, almonds, strawberries and powdered sugar is just to die for. I liked it so much I ordered it twice, which is unusual for me when I'm on a vacation. Combined with excellent brunch cocktails, it seriously put us in our happy place! We love Tarragon. read more

WOW! My wife & I are back at the Inn at Honey Run after a 3-year absence. What a great place (the "Honeycomb" rooms are wonderful & truly unique) and what a great meal we had at their Tarragon restaurant last evening! Easily a "10." My wife had the Arctic char (substituted for walleye, which had run out) - served with "a julienne of zucchini, rosemary and garlic roasted grape tomatoes, artichoke cream sauce and Kalamata tapenade" after her delicious snap pea appetizer (with - per the menu description - "thinly sliced radish, fresh mint, Pecorino Romano cheese, homemade Ricotta, and extra virgin olive oil"). I started off with little neck clams steamed with pork belly & served with homemade croutons. Outstanding! Then a perfect wedge salad and a fall-off-the-bone lamb shank served with "sautéed broccolini, spiced Basmati pilaf with marinated dried fruit, lemon ginger gremolata and Pinot Noir lamb jus. Our server, Liz, made everything feel like home - and she even bartended, whipping up a great whiskey sour from Bullett rye and fresh juices for me. Can't wait to dine there again tonight! And by the way, although the whole evening (dinner and drinks) may have drifted a little onto the pricey side - it was unquestionably worth every penny! read more

The Tarragon is nice for those who don't want to leave the premises for dinner. We were the only patrons in the restaurant on a chilly March Sunday evening so we enjoyed an intimate, quiet dinner. My husband ordered the pork chop, which was tough, with warm slaw and a scoop of chewy triple Mac-n-cheese. I ordered the half chicken which was tender, juicy, and fresh--not frozen! The service was attentive and friendly. They have a weird rule in this restaurant--expect to have your water glass or coffee cup swapped out every single time you ask for a top off. We just wanted them to bring out the cotton picking coffee pot or water pitcher. Hmmmm...what were they hiding? :). Like I said in my review of The Inn at Honey Run, like a teenage boy in an ill-fitting tux, the Tarragon tries very hard to be a 5-Star establishment, but needs to drop some of the pretension...and their prices. We dropped a hundred dollar bill on chicken and pork--without alcohol. Tip: Don't dine on Sunday if you expect to enjoy a glass of wine with your dinner here or any eating establishment in Holmes County. read more

Reservations are a must with the labor shortage. When we checked in at The Inn at Honey Run, we were able to snag a 6:30 dinner reservation only because of a cancellation. The Miso Mushroom soup, the Stuffed Red Pepper and the Carrot Cake were all delicious. Not many people due to staff but our waiter Tim Z was outstanding. Since we were staying at the Inn on a Friday night, we made dinner reservations here, which is onsite. Our server was wonderful. We had met her earlier, when she served our complimentary appetizer (wine and flatbread with olives on the side, on the deck) after checking in. We splurged, since we were celebrating an anniversary. We had cocktails, wine, 3 courses, and then dessert. Everything I had was exceptional: the lobster salad, grilled romaine, and the scallops served with turnip puree, asparagus, and peas. My husband enjoyed his potato gnocchi, but his caprese was lacking in mozzarella. He felt his steak was overcooked and overpriced. We asked if we could have our dessert on the deck and she was happy to do so. I had a coffee with amaretto and cream with my vanilla bean creme brulee. Delicious. He had the chocolate espresso silk, which he enjoyed. The view from the deck is pretty and relaxing. The next morning we returned for breakfast. We were offered a complimentary continental breakfast (normally $12) or we could order off the menu. We both chose the freebie, which was healthier than anything else we would have ordered. We had a different server this time, and again, very sweet. I had fresh fruit, a muffin, oatmeal, cranberry juice, coffee, and I added a mimosa. This time we were seated by the window with a beautiful view of the tall trees and squirrels. I would recommend this for special occasions, and especially as guests of the Inn. read more

We were a little reluctant to come due to the limited menu but we were sure glad we did! The restaurant has tables spread apart with limited seating due to the virus. The view is beautiful and the music is great. Very relaxing. Server Theresa was very sweet and took her time to talk to us throughout the meal. She wore a mask throughout for our safety. She's been there 9 years so ask for her. Portions were GENEROUS despite some of the other reviews. As for the prices, you get what you pay for and that is quality. If you want clunky bland Amish food you won't find it here. We spent $112 and we got an appetizer, two entrees, two desserts, coffee and a tea. That's reasonable not steep! Anyway, Dinner started with a flat bread. It came with tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese. It tasted like a pizza and was so warm and delicious. We shared a bib salad that had strawberries, almonds and poached pears. Salad was very flavorful. I ordered the grilled pork chop with peach salsa and it was delicious. Peaches were fresh. My side of roasted corn was charred perfectly. I also ordered a side of broccoli rabe that had garlic and oil. So order that as well. Fiancé had the roasted chicken which was very juicy. Potato Rosti was crisp and perfectly done. He loved the pesto which was very light. I have a baking and pastry degree and when I tell you the frozen key lime pie was the best dessert I've ever had, it means something. It was PERFECTION. Kudos to the pastry chef. My fiancé had the coconut mango creme brûlée. It was supposed to come with kiwi and the top wasn't hard like a normal creme brûlée it was mushy. However it had great flavor! I ordered the pork chop Milanese and was very disappointed that it was fried! I don't remember that being in the description. It also only came with ginger on top and no side? I was hoping for a vegetable on the side or something? My husband had the lam shank and loved it. The green beans and capers were very good. I also had the bib salad which was my favorite part of the meal. Service was great, bread was great, wine was great, espresso cheesecake was great. I'll be honest we chose the Tarragon because very little else is open on Sunday in Amish country. Thanks God, because this place was amazing. Everything we had was superb. My lady had the roasted chicken. Easily the best roasted chicken dish I've ever tasted. I had the grilled pork chop. Equally as good. Top that with amazing service and you have a great dining experience. The only thing that would have been better was a glass of great wine. But, local law prohibits selling alcohol in Sunday's. Maybe look at letting guest bring their own. We will be back for sure. read more
