Decided to check out the new version of Shy Cellars. They made sure we understood that 63 Corks is not associated in any way with Shy. Okay then. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had a lovely time though we weren't thrilled about sitting in the tiny side room at the tiny 4-person bar with our backs to the room...it felt cramped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server helped us choose the perfect bottle of wine from an extensive collection. The apples and rice appetizer was excellent..like arancini balls. My husband had the duck and liked it. I had the lumache which was just ok. The pasta was a little too al dente and the large clumsy shells didn't seem like the right shape for the delicate dish. It was supposed to come with shrimp, but surprise...nope! It came with lobster. I find lobster a bit sweet and thought shrimp would have worked better. This girl is usually in the clean plate club when it comes to pasta and seafood dishes but not tonight. I will say that the dessert alone was worth the one hour drive.. the smoked smores arrived with a bell jar of smoke which the server whisked off to reveal a delectable gooey to-die-for cake smothered in caramel and marshmallow. Last night at 63 Corks was nothing short of exceptional. From the first bite to the last, everything felt thoughtfully prepared, fresh, and full of life. The farm-to-fork approach truly shines in every dish. The king salmon and summer Marea were, without question, the best my husband and I have ever had. Each bite delivered a perfect harmony of flavors that felt both vibrant and refreshing. The bread service, especially the focaccia, was outstanding, and the crispy cauliflower was another standout. Every dish felt creative, fresh, and beautifully executed. Pat, our amazing server, made every part of dinner a pleasure. Outstanding. This is NOW my favorite restaurant in the State of Ohio. This was a last minute decision to dine at 63 Corks by my wife. It was a Friday evening and my wife hit the jack pot. She made reservations and that began our journey to this culinary institution. Outstanding. We arrived in an area that I already knew but I had no idea what I have been passing for 5 years. 63 Corks won't impress you from the outside. It looks like a house. As we walked in, we were warmly greeted and it took only took a minute to get our table ready. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a table for two at the entry so we had a cool draft all evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Yes this place is small and it was packed. Nevertheless we had our two seats and a intimate table by the wall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Prior to being seated, a waitress walked past us with the MOST gorgeous display of culinary perfection that I have seen in the state of Ohio. It was a steak of epic proportions and plated unlike anything I have seen since I have lived here for 5 years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At that point, the smell and the imagery already assured me that this experience was going to be Outstanding.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were warmly greeted again but by our server this time. She brought us 2 glasses and a clear glass carafe of ice water. She asked for our drinks and she guided me through my beer selections like a champ. I started with the Saucy Brea Works "What's his Nuts" Stout Beer which had a 7.5 ABV. OUTSTANDING: This local Cleveland beer came packed. It had a deep strong chocolate and caramel front along with a Peanut Butter strong finish. This chilled glass adult treat was served at about 33 - 34 degrees and was devoured quickly. Our appetizers or beginnings arrived: Autumn Meatballs (Elk & Wagyu) which my wife loved and nearly licked the bowl. I really wasn't a fan, but the Elk part messed with my judgement of a well executed dish. That's just me and didn't sway my impressions. My Appalachian Fried Rangoon Mozzarella was awesome, but surprised me when it came out as I was expecting small little Rangoon and they came out Eggroll size. OUTSTANDING. I then opted to try another Saucy brew, this time it was a "Love you By" at 8.5 ABV. OUTSTANDING Our main entrees arrived. My wife went for a Filet Mignon as the previous steak that passed us swayed her judgement. She loved it. I ordered the Ribeye Fried PorkChop and it was OUTSTANDING and I have never tried something like this before. It was accompanied with Beets which I hate. Guess What? OUTSTANDING. They were pickled or something but everything g that they make here is from scratch even the butter. This is a farm to table location and they even recognize their local farmers on the back page. I was too full for dessert but took half of my main meal home which was equally appreciated then next day. My wife took 1/4 of her meal home as she REALLY liked her meal. We both LOVED our meal and have told my staff, my local dry cleaners and neighbor about 63 Corks. In my opinion this isn't an option. You MUST try. You will find the best plated meals that you she ever seen. You will find very complex dishes that you will have a difficult time trying to make on your own. You will find local vegetables that looked like somebody just pulled them out of the ground, washed them off and sprinkled "YUMMY" dust on them. The service was OUTSTANDING. There are very few places I go, where I'm almost 100% confident my meal will be out of this world. 63 Corks is one of those places. Just visited for a fifth or sixth time, and decided to finally crank out a review. Stopped in on a Saturday night, and the place was hopping. Was there for my birthday, so they seated us at the Chef's table when they found out. Didn't request it, so getting it was a really nice surprise! For starters we did a glass of cab (9/10), and one of their house whiskey cocktails with Buffalo Trace, an apple slice, cinnamon stick, simple syrup and bitters (8/10). Like a slightly spiced Old Fashioned. We also ordered the "Ohio Hot" Fall Calamari ($16). It was Crisp Porcini Mushroom Dusted Calamari, Roasted Butternut & Sweet Potato Hash, Pumpkin Seed Chili Crisp, with Maple Hot Honey. What a symphony of flavor. The calamari was crispy and lightly battered, with good seasoning and crunch. The hash and chili crisp were the perfect compliment. The maple hot honey gave it a hint of sweet, with more than a hint of spicy. One of the better starters I've ever had (9.5/10). For mains we had the Appalachian Wagyu Beef Cheeks ($38), and the Autumn Duck Breast ($36). The beef came with Apple & brandy braised wagyu beef cheeks, smoked whipped potatoes, sweet & sour root vegetables, and crisp parsnips, with a red-eye demi-glace. The beef was the most tender I've ever had in a dish like this. No knife needed. Just fell apart and melted. The whipped potatoes gave a nice balance, and the crisp parsnips had just enough starch and crunch to tie everything together perfectly (8.5/10). The second main featured a Smoked maple seared hudson valley duck breast (medium rare), sweet potato & duck confit farro, wilted fall greens & candied turnips, and apple chutney, with pomegranate glaze. I'd never had farro before. It's a whole grain wheat, kind of similar in look to barley, but tastes more nutty. With sweet potato chunks and duck confit mixed in, it was absolutely *phenomenal*. The turnips, which I wasn't looking forward to, were also somehow delicious. Chef is a magician back there. The duck was cooked perfectly, with the fat still in tact. Really happy with this decision (9.5/10). Weren't going to get dessert, but the pastry chef we'd been seated in front of all night talked us into the Chocolate Mocha Crème Brûlée ($11). Thank god he did, because, wow. I've had a lot of traditional crème brûlée in my day. My first venture into chocolate was unreal. Caramelized sugar on top of a downright decadent chocolate custard with just the right amount of espresso flavoring. Topped with house made whip and two chocolates shaped into "coffee beans". Couldn't have asked for a better end to an outstanding birthday dinner. Service has always been top notch. It's fine dining, but the servers feel like family. It's never felt stuffy or sterile, which some "fine dining" tends to do. If you're anywhere in northeast, or even east central, Ohio; "63 Corks" is worth the drive. You don't want to miss this place. Wife and I were Lucky to get in this gem of a place ! We Heard about it in the afternoon and called until Ashley answered and explained they were pretty full but we could sit on the patio at 6:30. For future visits I will Be sure to call well in advance. Started with caprese beet salad with heirloom tomatoes. Light and flavorful. Many other appetizers to chooses from when we return. We chose a petit Syrah from McManis to pair with our dinner choices. I heard an adjacent table ask if they had anything they were "known" for; the server said no, but I have to believe going forward the 9185 pork chop dish will get consideration. Hands down best double pork chop I ever have had or possibly will have ! Perfect preparation and accompanied with wax beans and fingerling potatoes. My wife enjoyed her chicken breast over smoked mashed potatoes. We split a piece of the Bourbon Carmel Cheesecake to finish the evening. My husband and I were staying in amish country this weekend. We were there for an early birthday/anniversary celebration. We decided we wanted something different for dinner than we have had there in the past. We drove the 25 minutes from our hotel to 63 corks. When we arrived it looked very different from what was inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is smaller, but cozy. We were seated in the wine room. It was us, and another couple seated in that room. We enjoyed being able to talk to each other without trying to talk over other patrons.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress was very sweet, all of the waitresses were super friendly. I had the Ohio Primavera and my husband had the pork chops. Both were amazing! I tried a bit of his pork, it had sweet potatoes. I do not like sweet potatoes but their's was amazing! The couple next to us asked about the name of the restaurant. We were all touched by the reason for the name. For drinks I had the blueberry limoncello. It was a little strong so she fixed it for me. We also got some riesling that was amazing. At the end of the meal I got the s'mores dessert. It was so cool the way it was made. It was so amazing! We definitely will be back. We had to revisit our favorite restaurant in our local-ish area, 63 Corks, to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary. Their menu is seasonal, based on the availability of fresh, local ingredients, and we hadn't yet had the opportunity to try the Winter menu, which was in its final days. We started with the "Ohio Hot" Fall Calamari, which is Gluten Free and features Crisp Porcini Mushroom Dusted Calamari, Roasted Butternut & Sweet Potato Hash, Pumpkin Seed Chili Crisp, and Maple Hot Honey. Every bite delivered a new complexity of flavors. The calamari was perfectly cooked, and the flavors and textures were a fantastic start to a meal that would delight the sight, smell, and taste. When you eat at this restaurant, Chef Nate ensures that his creations have layers of surprising flavors with aromatics you can taste. The Porcini Mushrooms added an earthiness that complemented the rest of the dish incredibly well. Next up were our main dishes. The last time my husband ordered the 14 oz Ohio Strip Steak from their Reserved Cut Steak options, he declared it one of the best steaks he's ever had. Naturally, he opted for it again. Their steaks come with a choice of Side, Vegetable & One Sauce. The sauce choices include Red-Eye Demi Glace, House 63 Sauce, Apricot Whiskey Agrodolce, or a Trio of Accompanied Sauces. My husband chose Roasted Parm & Herb Fingerlings, Miller's Mushrooms & Onions, and the House 63 Sauce. I chose the Winter Scallops, another Gluten Free dish. The dish includes Jumbo Pan-Seared Scallops, Roasted Ohio Acorn Squash, Braised Creamed Kale, Apple Ginger Butter, and Pomegranate Apple Ginger Salsa. As with previous experiences, the scallops were cooked to absolute perfection--smooth as butter. Each meal at 63 Corks elicits involuntary audible sounds of pure culinary pleasure from me, and this was no different. Every bite was met with an "Mmmm" or an "Ohhhh." The imaginative flavor combinations were incredible, and the textures--the smooth, perfectly cooked scallops, velvety pureed acorn squash, creamed kale, and the crunchy bits of apples in the salsa--were fantastic. Though thoroughly satiated, we couldn't pass up one (or two) of their fabulous desserts. The seasonal Crème Brûlée is always a must, and on the Winter Menu, it was Chocolate Mocha Crème Brûlée, another Gluten Free option. Featuring Chocolate Mocha Custard, Salted Caramel, Housemade Kahlua Chocolate Candy, Torched Sugar, Whipped Chantilly, and Fresh Mint, the initial bite hits you with a decadent chocolate flavor, followed by a delightful crunch from the torched sugar--always a favorite addition of mine. Then, the lingering aroma and taste of coffee subtly but wonderfully settle on your palate. We also ordered the House Cheesecake, also Gluten Free. The Original 9185 House Cheesecake with a Candied Pecan Crust is available Plain or with toppings including Lemon Curd, Raspberry Curd, Bourbon Caramel, Chocolate Ganache, or Turtle Style. We wisely chose the Bourbon Caramel. I have never had a cheesecake that was both dense and light at the same time, but 63 Corks delivered. This was hands-down the best cheesecake I have ever had. The Bourbon Caramel paired with the pecan crust was a match made in heaven, a classic pairing of bourbon and pecan. Though we initially felt like we might be overindulging by ordering two desserts after such a filling meal, we were so glad we didn't opt out of our recurring favorite, the Crème Brûlée, and equally glad we tried the cheesecake for the first time. Do we have a new favorite? If not equally pleasing as the Crème Brûlée, the cheesecake comes in an extremely close second. We are very excited to see what Chef Nate will have cooked up for us on the upcoming Spring Menu. He gave us a peek by adding one dish to the Winter Menu just to tease and whet our appetites. Though we didn't try it, we were intrigued to find out more about what to expect. Beyond the extraordinary food, the service at 63 Corks is just as impeccable. The staff is well-trained, extremely attentive, friendly, and down to earth. They are always knowledgeable about the menu and feature offerings. Due to the incredible menu and extraordinary dishes, reservations are a must. TLDR Version: Probably the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. They messed up on nearly every aspect of our visit. Full Version: I really hate to leave a review like this because I don't want to do any damage to a small business's reputation, but I also don't want anybody else to go in with high hopes, and have the kind of experience that I had. My wife and I are here for our 5th wedding anniversary. I was excited because I had seen some glowing reviews on TikTok, Google Reviews, Yelp, etc. The drive for us was about an hour, but I figured it'd be worth it to try something new and unique. I called ahead of time and arranged for a bouquet of flowers to be on the table when we arrived. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not only was there no bouquet, but our table was extremely uneven, and we were seated in the "wine room."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is where all the employees hang out, eat snacks, make drinks, ring in orders, print tickets, etc. We were seated directly next to where all of this was going on, and I felt like I was in their way the whole evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bouquet situation was never addressed. My wife ordered a wine flight, but instead of getting a nice labeled flight tray like everybody else, the server left each time she ordered a glass, and brought them individually to the table. My margarita was decent, but it was served in an oddly textured martini glass with a bunch of ice, making it difficult to drink. The "bread service" isn't bread service, but rather four slices of bread that you get one time. The tomato, oil, and cream cheese dip that looked so fresh and delicious online only had about four tomatoes in it, and the rest was just oil and cream. My wife's $43 filet mignon was burnt on the outside and severely undercooked on the inside (she ordered it medium rare, but it was almost inedibly raw). It wasn't tender like a filet should be, but tasted like a poorly cooked sirloin. The gnocchi that came on the side was a bowl of undercooked dough balls. The server was weird and unprofessional. Never gave us any kind of proper greeting, didn't seem to know anything about the menu, was constantly shouting to other people for help with every question, and on multiple occasions, tried to make ordering decisions on my wife's behalf. Two drinks, bread service, two meals, and one dessert was in the ballpark of $150. I would highly recommend spending your money elsewhere. In all fairness, the scallops were very good, and so were the doughnuts. Every other aspect of our visit was comically bad. We were genuinely laughing about how awful it was, especially for the price. This place is Ohio's best kept secret! My family recently dined here based on snipingfordom.com recommendation. The bread was really good. Unfortunately, not the same bread as in the review but was equally as good. The pork belly was really good but could have used a char on the outer ends to make it better. The scallops were first class and the sides under the scallops were what made the meal! I could eat that all day! My wife and daughter had the filet, which both stated are the best steaks they have ever had ( Ruth Chris has nothing on them). My oldest had the salmon which she said was good but not the best ever. The smoked s'mores desert was a cold piece of cake that would have been better hot. The white hot chocolate made it much better. Been quite awhile since we were there, hopefully they have improved. But our experience was not good enough to go back. All the entrees seemed to be in a bowl. Didn't seem like a meal! It's an experience! Servers well versed in wine selections, if you're in to wine this place is a must! The food is top notch! Everything is made from scratch...breads, pasta, butter, sauces etc. Crafted cocktails made with top shelf bourbon, whiskey, gin and liquors. Absolutely amazing must travel to and try place. My Fiance and I traveled from 6 hours away to have his 40th birthday dinner. It was amazing and so worth it! The chefs table was an experience to go for by itself! The food, ALL of it was incredible and my fiance eats at high end places while his work pays for dinner and trainings all over the US. This place holds a candle to what you would expect to have in a large city like Chicago with paying triple what you get charged here. It's a must try and we left so stuffed with leftovers. It was worth the gamble of trying to place we saw on TikTok and I'm so glad I chose for his birthday to be planned around traveling afar for top culinary artistry. read more
