This is a cute restaurant recommended by a friend who goes pre-theatre. We had a reservation Friday at 7 and were seated promptly. The service was attentive and efficient. My friend had fish tacos she enjoyed. My son had a burger and meatballs he enjoyed. I had the pear and goat cheese salad that was a perfect combo in ingredients with creamy balsamic dressing. We shared the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. It was very reasonably priced (total $67 for the three of us). For me the big downside was the location which required street parking - obviously hit or miss. We ended up parking in a pay lot ($8 I think) and walking several blocks. We stayed at the Jefferson last week and had a horrible meal in their luxury restaurant. We wanted to find somewhere else to eat for our second night. Tarrant's Cafe was recommended to us by Kaiden at the sister restaurant, Bar Solita (breakfast was great there). Tarrant's was a really comfortable place to eat, the service was EXCELLENT. We had great salads, pasta and the scallops, all first class. We also had a bottle of Prisoner which was reasonably priced. One of the hosts spent some time giving us recommendations on places to see in Virginia as we are on a history tour. He was generous with his time. We really enjoyed this restaurant! read more

This place is definitely a staple for my family. I usually prefer different cuisines, but Tarrants never disappoints. The servers are also always friendly. The pizza is sooo good and the drinks are always delicious. If you're in the area I definitely recommend checking it out. read more

My friend and I stopped in just to grab a drink. We were greeted by the most beautiful smile from waitress Kristin. She was really patient with us because my friend had no clue what she wanted. Very attentive and had the most positive attitude. My experience with her alone made me want to go back but the buffalo wings were amazing. Rolled up on this place purely by accident passing through town on a Friday night. It was packed (always a good sign right?) so we sat at the bar with two amazing bartenders & ordered the specials: Meatloaf & Hot Brown, both with garlic mashed potatoes (beautifully piped on the plate - I love that!) & perfectly cooked fresh green beans. I'd give it 4 stars. I got the Monte Cristo sandwich with fries, and it was good. A little less food than I was expecting, but it was good. The thing of it is though I walked over to get it and even with carry-out it was over $13. The Monte Cristo and the fries were good but I'm not sure it was enough food/good *enough* for $13. Went to Tarrant's with some coworkers today! No wait for the table at all, great waiter, and a very comfortable atmosphere. I ordered the Risotto with no tomatoes, although most of my colleagues got sandwiches. Our wait for the food... took a whole hour! Maybe because we had a big party, but I was starving by the time our food came out. The bread that is provided is not amazing - it's extremely oily and not too flavorful. However, the risotto was amazing. Creamy, savory, you name it. In addition, even though it was only an appetizer, I got a whole entree's worth. All of our portions were huge, and nearly all of us had to get to-go boxes. Having seen many improper to-go containers before, I was extremely impressed to see the variety that they have at Tarrant's, especially as my risotto had a lot of sauce. The drinks are strong but the rest of the visit goes downhill from there. I completely understand being in the industry for awhile but if you cannot remember every substitution I ask for you need to use a pen and paper (Jocelyn J.) In addition to that if you mess up and I have to keep getting up to get your attention you don't get to be upset and avoid the table you made mistakes at. Taking simple accountability would have made this review nonexistent. Perhaps if you go here and get another server you will have a better visit than I did. I think I've found my new Friday Happy Hour Spot! The ambiance is cool and casual. The dim lighting and rustic feel creates a cozy atmosphere. I'm a jack and ginger type of girl and the bartender here knows how to create the perfect blend. They also have an amazing Prosecco on tap. Charming American restaurant with cute seasonal cocktails and mocktails. Our waitress Nadia was thoughtful and friendly, as were all the employees we interacted with. The complementary garlic bread was very tasty - hot and fresh with real garlic on top!! The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was a must have -- tangy with a slight crisp-- the perfect texture. The blue cheese dip had real blue cheese chunks in it! The white Bianca pizza was also delicious, you can tell they put a lot of effort into making a nice crust. The fries were hot and fresh with a nice seasoning on top. The goat cheese and pear salad was very tasty and fresh. Cool building with several remaining older features! The vibe was fun and the crew was fun connecting with. Our group enjoyed the garlic bread that came out and a variety of their seasonal drinks. I had a gin drink off their seasonal menu, and it was delicious- our waitress said that they tend to keep fun drinks on rotation. I had the chicken piccata, which was good. Everyone in my group walked away loving their drinks and happy with their meal, but we all said that considering the price we had expected it to be a little bit better. From my experience, Richmond has a lot of other spots that you can pay similarly for, with either larger portions or insanely delicious food. My first review of Tarrant's was written a few months before I moved to Richmond after my initial visit. For my first six months in the area, I lived closer to Tarrant's West and had no issues ordering from them countless times. But since moving downtown, I just keep striking out with this local cafe. One time I placed a delivery order to work; they forgot a portion of the order so they had to make a second trip. That's a hassle for both parties. Another time I visited the cafe with a friend. They served me a beer that was obviously spoiled (it was all foam and tasted rotten) and I had to explain to them that it was not what a beer should look like. I ended up contacting the brewery itself to give them a head's up to replace their keg. Service was also super slow that visit. Tonight I ordered a club sandwich and a cheesesteak. After a $5 tip, my total was $33.09. The food arrived in 30 minutes. When I brought it upstairs, I learned that both items were prepared incorrectly. I asked for "no tomates please" (exact wording on GrubHub) on both sandwiches. The club was bursting with them, which equated to tomatoey bacon after I plucked them all out. The cheesesteak's description on GrubHub was "lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise." When I ordered, I thought finally! A local cheesesteak that wasn't covered in peppers, onions, and mushrooms! Yeah, nah. That thing had onions cooked throughout. It was gross. I contacted GrubHub and asked for at least a partial refund. "As a courtesy," the restaurant decided to refund $13.47. I have no idea how they did their math, but a partial refund would have been $16.55. I can't say Tarrant's is "as good as it gets" anymore, because it's really not. Bummer. read more

How disappointing, I ordered the seafood cannelloni, and guess what?? There was NO SEAFOOD!! It is suppose to include crab, shrimp, and scallops, but instead I got a disgusting mound of what taste like cake batter and pineapple(yes pineapple), mixed with Parmesan cheese and tomato sauce inside of a pasta roll! I've ordered from Tarrants before and have never been this disappointed, you can't call it a seafood cannelloni, if there is no seafood people, I mean I literally searched for any trace of crab, shrimp or scallops for about five minutes, cuz I really couldn't believe it. On top of that, it wasn't good at all whatever flavors they were tryna mix together just wasn't it. We went in for Sunday brunch, which was fabulous. My dad enjoyed the 'Frenchie' - french toast with pecans,strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream. While mom and I loved our crab cake Benedict. The crab cake was made simply with crab and served with tomato and poached eggs and buttery but minimal hollandaise on English muffins. They often offer little fried dough cinnamon 'rolls' on the house as you await your order. The show stealer was the crab soup which they are known for. Super creamy with sherry and lots of flavor, it's worth the almost $9/cup. Lovely ambience and friendly staff add to the experience. Historic broad street location. read more

Had a not so great experience dining here with my friend last night. We came in for dinner and I was really excited to bring her here as I've usually had positive experiences in the past. Yesterday was a different story. I ordered the soup of the day which was a roasted red pepper soup and my friend ordered a she crab soup. I was very clear that I have a shellfish allergy, and when our soups came out, they were both she crab. The waitress immediately corrected the mistake and brought me the correct soup. Then when our entrees came out, I noticed that my sandwich had fries with it which were cooked in the communal fryer along with seafood items. I immediately brought this to our waitress' attention and she had my food remade with a different side. At the end of the meal, my order was rang in incorrectly and I was charged for the wrong soup, which was a different price than what I ordered. The then waitress mixed up the credit cards and charged me for my friend's meal and vice versa, despite us telling her which card belong to who. It was a frustrating experience all around. read more

Today was my first time at Tarrants. The ambiance was nice. The service was nice. Unfortunately, my Crab Louis Salad was really awful. I was dining with friends, and my dinner was being paid for, so I didn't want to be "that person" and send my dish back. I really should have, though. For starters...there wasn't much seafood involved, and actually more shrimp than crab. The crab itself was runny...yes...RUNNY....small flakes that looked like they were poured onto the lettuce. The crab was so heavily doused with strong fresh horseradish, that there was zero crab taste. Ruined the salad. Terrible. The chef needs to learn what a shrimp/crab Louis salad actually tastes like. Trust me, it ain't this. There's no horseradish in ANY Louie recipe. Epilog: Now experiencing "digestive issues". Dropping the star rating to 1 star. read more
