Service here was done from a smaller table adjacent and servers literally finish prepare and serve your entrees to a separate plate for you and give you your sides. Almost like mom serving you up and giving you access to more later. Servings are huge and many dishes come with potatoes but quietly include a fantastic rice with a slight smoky flavor and a huge vegetable stir fry (not listed in menu description). I ordered the Iberian roast pork and she got the Sea Bream special. Both under 20 Euros. We also got one salad to share. Omg it was huge-so glad we didn't each get one! Lightly dressed with olive oil on the side we didn't need. One of the best salads I've had in a long time. Wine and drink list large and good. Jose was such a professional great server as was all of the staff. Fun to watch the care they put into service. The food was fantastic and more than ample. We couldn't quite finish it all but believe me I tried! Price was very moderate for such great food and service in such a nice large classically decorated restaurant and I'd go back in a heart beat. The octopus was perfectly cooked with loads of chopped white onion and parsley atop. So simple and refreshing. I loved the prawns and had to order the bread (also great) to mop up that sauce! Looking back, these two dishes were at the top of our list during our week stay. For entrees, we ordered the roast Iberian pork neck (single portion) with chestnuts and it was rich and satisfying. As an afterthought, my fiancé ordered the Bacalhau (ok) and didn't realize it came with sides of cabbage and rice too. Way too much food, especially for just the two of us. Good thing we ordered the "single" portions! We couldn't finish either of the two entrees and could have done without the fish, but hey when in Portugal, we wanted to try everything the region is known for. Too bad he missed out on the tripe. We started the meal with some bread and Qieijo de Azeitão cheese - the cheese was a smooth, creamy texture with a hearty flavor that was really delicious. The meals were what we came to expect in Portugal - not too fancy, the flavors of the food took precedence rather than the seasonings, and we walked away just full enough to share a couple desserts and an after dinner drink. I just wish we would have left some of the bread leftover so I could sop up every drop on the dish. I know I don't need to say it, since it's Portugal, but the service was amazing. It was a beautiful evening so we walked along the river after dinner so we didn't fall into a food coma. Man, I miss Portugal.

Our eight arms and legs were hurting, so we needed to sit down, rest, and eat! A Grade has been recommended by both Rick Steves and Lonely Planet in the past for their delicious traditional dishes, so even though this family-run restaurant is hidden away from more touristy areas, reservations are generally needed. Seating is limited in this small space, and all tables had reserved signs on them upon our arrival. In desperation we asked to be squeezed in, and they graciously accommodated us. We couldn't believe our luck as we noticed a handful of parties were turned away after us. An American couple sitting next to us had been referred to A Grade by locals to sample the best octopus in the city. We had planned on ordering the seafood rice, but changed our minds after our conversation with them. We ordered the octopus fillets with rice, and after one bite it octopied our hearts! Sooo tender! It really did somewhat taste like chicken! There may have been a bit of guilt involved in eating this dish after having watched "My Octopus Teacher" last year, though not enough to stop devouring the plate. We also ordered the grilled sardines and some salt cod fritters (Pasteis de Bacalhau)--both were excellent. Our waiter was professional and possessed a spectacularly witty sense of humor, entertaining us throughout our meal. I highly recommend eating at A Grade...and I give it an A grade! If you're as lucky as us, you might even hear a Fado performance from another restaurant around the corner.
