A great part of the culture of Barcelona is the opportunity to drink local Spanish wines and try Tapas, a popular style of eating in this city. Barcelona is known for great Spanish Wines and Great Tapas. There are so many places to go in The Old City and besides getting recommendations from those who have been here, I highly recommend starting the trip in Barcelona with a Wine and Tapas tour, to get to know what to look for and what your tastes are in wines and tapas as well as what is popular tapas in the area. I researched a couple of companies and found Taste Barcelona which gave us a lot more than an education on where to go for great wine and Tapas. Paul, the owner and our tour guide also made sure we learned some of the history of Barcelona, and knowledge of Catalonia and even stopped on the way to some hidden areas to explain the history visually as we walked through the neighborhoods of The Old City to the next tapas restaurant. History was such a big part of this and we got what we paid for from the start. At our first tapas restaurant, Paul pulled out a map of Barcellona and explained the importance for first to give us an overall understanding of Barcelona and as we moved on through the night, we would get to know each other more and dig into some of the details about the Wines, the Tapas, and even discussed some things about ourselves. After several glasses of wines, we got to know a whole lot about everything. The more we moved on, the more fun and the more we learned. What better way to learn wines, tapas and history than by going to some of the best Tapas places, sitting down at a table, tasting different wines and having them paired with different tapas combinations and have Paul discuss the history of the area as well as where the wines come from and the background of where you are eating while drinking these great wines. My wife and I met him promptly at 5:00 pm in front of the University of Barcelona along with a great couple from North Carolina. So it was the 5 of us that where going to go on this 5 hour adventure. We ended up going to 3 fabulous tapas restaurants and ended up at a Cava tasting in one of his favorite wine stores in the Old City. By 10:30 we learned local wines, new tapas places, more history, and met a great couple that we ended up exchanging numbers with to get together in each other's cities and do some more wine and dine adventures together. We found we had a lot in common. After Paul left, the 4 of us just hung around until the owner closed up. The key here was that Paul knows these places and they know him. When we walked in, they knew what to serve us and the dishes kept on coming. All the wines and food are included in the price and it was extremely reasonable for what we drank, ate and learned. An amazing experience! The perfect balance between food, wine, culture, and conversation. Paul was very informative and explained what we were eating and drinking. The variety of tapas was excellent and very tasty. He also covered some history and geography and told us about the 3 different neighborhoods we ate/drank in during the 5-hour tour. We only had 6 people in our group (Paul keeps it under 8 people or so to keep the groups small for a more intimate experience). Everyone got along very well and the group, sans Paul, ended up staying at the last place where we drank Cava, and conversed over 2 more bottles. I highly recommend booking this tour if you are looking for a great introduction to tapas, Spanish wines (white, rose, red, and cava), and some Barcelona (and Spanish) history. My wife and I did this tour on our 3rd day in Barcelona so don't feel like you need to do it right when you get there. my husband and I went on this the first night we arrived in Barcelona! Paul was our tour guide and was fantastic! He was a wealth of knowledge about the history, culture, and areas of Barcelona!! We visited 4 different places, each serving wine and tappas for us to enjoy. None of the food or wine was repeated during the tour and it was all incredibly delicious! We experienced a truly lovely evening in Barcelona to start our week long vacation there. We booked our wine and tapas tour before coming and everything was organised and dealt with very professionally. We met our tour guide at the organised start and went on a wine and tapas tasting experience for just over 5 hours that was definitely a highlight to our holidays. This tour was recommended to us by a friend of ours who had been to Barcelona a month before us and had rave reviews about Paul, the tour guide. We did the tour on our trip last week and it was one of the best things we did on our entire two-week honeymoon in Europe! The format of the tours is small-- a max of 6 people plus the tour guide-- and lasts for 5 hours in the evening. He took us to four different spots, with different tapas and drinks at each (except the last stop, which was drinks only). We drank a lot of great wine and had some excellent food too. Paul was very engaging and informative, giving us a lot of background and history of Barcelona along with the background and culture relating to the food and wine we were consuming. A real must for people who truly love food and wine and want to check out some less well-traveled spots in Barcelona. Definitely take this tour! read more

Book as soon as you know your dates! This tour was AMAZING. My girlfriend and I went to Barcelona and one of our last nights there we did the walking tapas tour. ALl the places are super friendly, I think we lucked out with a good group of Americans where we chatted about Netflix and cable television the whole time, but Paul is super informative, I learned a lot and we had some AMAZING food and wine. There was plenty to go around and a variety. My friend wasn't into cheese and they still accommodated her order. If i had it to do again-I would do it at the beginning of our trip because some of the places you may want to go back to or the next day Paul sent us so many great recommendations for you to eat your way through the city. Side note--I also thought I would feel ridiculously stuffed, but I surprisingly was full--but just right amount and then it ends at the perfect time to either go back and get some sleep-or go out and party with the rest of Barcelona. I recommend this tour to any foodie looking for a great "taste" of Barcelona. We walked around to a few different locations to taste the authentic foods. The guide was very accommodating and made sure even a picky eater tried the food. If someone wasn't comfortable with a certain kind of food, there was always another option and the guide never made them feel bad about not eating it. Not only was our guide friendly with the owners of the restaurants, but our guide knew the area very well. As we walked from one location to another our guide educated us on the historic importance of the areas. When asked questions, our guide could answer anything we threw at him! He was very easily approachable and the group was small enough to have a one on one conversation. My mother, grandmother and I loved this tour and made some new friends in the group! Due to the amount of people, the tastings were somewhat intimate so this tour is perfect for anyone who's an extrovert like me. After the tour, I felt that I had a better knowledge of the typical food in Barcelona. None of the foods were repeated and we were sufficiently full by the end of the tour. The tour included some newer restaurants and some authentic restaurants that have been family owned for decades. I learned that each family owned restaurant makes their own type of vermouth and no place has the same recipe! For anyone who enjoys touring with minimal invasion or is into ethical travel, this tour is perfect since the small groups keep from interfering with the locals daily lives and gives back to small businesses. All the stops on the tour were places that a person visiting typically wouldn't see so as tourists we really got that authentic feel. I felt more culturally enriched from this one tour than I did from the popular tours of the city. More places should do tours like these to support small businesses and to keep the genuine areas from becoming "tourist hotspots". From what I heard from the other people on the tour is that they loved it just as much as I did so it's safe to say that guest satisfaction was a 10/10.
