Everytime I come into Ithaca for the last decade I've been heading here. My brother was down the block. It's convenient to pull up and head out but despite being called express they have a full dining room as well. The interior is nice simple and relaxed but they also have about 6 tables for an outdoor dining area. Always nice landscaping too. The food is great. Fresh ingredients. Good sized menu with lots of vegan, vegetarian, gluten free options etc. I slowing going through the menu but everything I had is super tasty. The commons location is great too. I ordered food through their website, received an email confirmation, and was given a delivery time. When the food was already 25 minutes late, I called for an update. The automated system told me they were closed, despite Google showing them as open. This was at 6:10 PM--hardly an unusual time for a restaurant to be operating. The worst part is that nobody contacted me, nobody explained what happened, and the food never arrived. Yet they still charged my card. If you're going to take online orders and payment, the bare minimum is actually delivering the food or notifying customers when there's a problem. Terrible experience from start to finish. With one server and one expediter everyone was greeted, sat and served so smoothly. My order came out quickly and was very good; the server even took the time to explain the spice differences between the curry and the drunken style spicy fried rice. This used to be my absolute favorite Asian cuisine restaurant in Ithaca but the last few times, I have been quite disappointed. We ordered take out last Sunday and the experience was less than positive. The wait time was excessive for an order placed at 4:30 pm on a Sunday. We rolled through the drive-thru, received our order and headed home (about a 20-minute drive). When we arrived home, we noticed the spring rolls were missing (not the first time for a missing item for take-out) so I called the restaurant. Options given to me were: come back for the spring rolls (umm, no thanks), they could put my name in the comp book or, after some pleading, refund my CC (which never happened). To not be totally negative, the food is delicious and always has been but the portion sizes, at least for take-out, were about half the size of past orders and prices were definitely more expensive. $40+ for two tiny entrees and [missing] spring rolls. I know that the price of everything (food, service, insurance) is higher, but vegetable and rice are cheap! We have tons of Asian restaurants in town, so I'll be trying others to find my new favorite. read more

Delicious Thai food in Ithaca! Their pad Thai is exceptional with layers of flavor from the noodles smothered in tamarind sauce to the peanuts to the lime. Very large portions as well. I've tried both the pork and beef, and would say the beef is better as the pork was kinda dry and tough. Their red curry is also super flavorful with the perfect amount of heat that complements the spices of the curry and coconut. The pork in the curry was not as dry and paired nicely with the vegetables (peppers, zucchini, bamboo shoots). Overall, this restaurant is one of my go-tos in Ithaca. Very solid Thai food, and I would definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu! Finally offer indoor dining! Only if you are Ok with eating from plastic containers. Ordered two soups, both the Tom Yum and Tom Kha. Both cups for individual size. The Tom Yum was very good! Loved the lemongrass spicy flavor! Both were veggies. Then ordered two curries. Green curry with beef and the Panang with chicken. Both delicious! I usually prefer green curry, which was flavorful. But this time I actually liked the Panang more! Both were good portions and had good amount of veggies. I like the food overall. But the ambiance is less than perfect. We had frequently used Taste of Thai Express to cater lunches for large groups. We again hosted a lunch for about 50 people and placed our normal order. The order arrived and the trays were only about 40% full! We ran out before quite a few people were able to get any food! We took pictures of the more than half empty trays and sent it to them, letting them know that their trays were less than half full and we had a bunch of hungry people. They did not care or have a reasonable explanation. We learned from some other departments that since the change in ownership, that they've also had similar issues. We will not be using them again. We need reliable service and need to be able to trust that the sizes we order will be full. read more

Arrived at opening on a Saturday, ordered the red chicken curry. Service was fine, but there were only a couple people in the restaurant, so it was easy for them. The curry was outstanding. A bit sweeter than other curries I've had, but still excellent. The waitress/hostess told me the spice scale was, "Thai hot," but it's actually only American hot, so my meal wasn't quite as spicy as I was expecting. Still, the flavor was great! I love taste of thai! The food was great as it always is but giving express a three star because it is quite different from the restaurant on the commons. Here is why: it took forever. Wasn't very busy and I understand that busy or not doesn't always determine what's going on in the kitchen but being acknowledged goes a long way. And then we get home and they gave us the wrong soup. Completely different soup. And usually I'm the first to give excuses to anyone but this one bothered me because we called, told them the situation, and said we just want the right soup and were willing to come grab it. They initially pointed fingers at us until the woman finally looked at other orders and admitted she bagged the wrong soup. Super unnecessary coming for us without question..I'm sure people try scamming, it's a sad world we live in sometimes but dang. That was rough customer service. Saturday lunch with only two other tables in the joint (One of them were already eating)... we ordered a pot of green tea and it came out about 15 minutes later...ice cold. A waitress finally decided to take our order after about 25 minutes- she comes to the table wearing a puffy winter coat. Took our order and poof! She was gone. Food came out about 50 minutes later (Yes, I was timing it). Asked for the hot pepper condiments that they bring it to our table and the spoons that were in them were crusty and there was about a spoonful of each sauce left in the containers. Guess they don't rotate or clean those. Passed on that. Had to ask for more water. Had to hunt down my check. What a waste of two freaking hours on a sunny Saturday. Good food but the worst service for take out. The online estimate was 30-40 min. When I arrived, someone looked me in the eye and told me it would take 15 longer, then 10 min longer...In the end, it took 1:20 min. They seemed hesitant to even give us water while we waited (we had already tipped 20%). One person in our party fell asleep, another had low blood sugar. I'm wake at night and still mad about it. They said they were so busy while pointing to a table of 6 in an otherwise nearly empty restaurant. Whatever, you're poorly run. But if you can't get it together, do the honorable thing and just reject our order. Otherwise, you're pulling a bait and switch. read more

Went here and our table of four were the only people in the restaurant other than a couple who had already gotten their food. I ordered an appetizer and an entree. They brought out the Tom Kha and it genuinely tasted absolutely spoiled. I have had Tom Kha many times and it does not look or taste like that. The smell was so bad and off-putting that it was noticed by our entire table. Our food took over thirty minutes to get to us, and once again we were the only people in the restaurant who had not ordered yet and the wait staff was on their phones. Our food finally came out and the waitresses entire North Face jacket sleeve went into my food when she set it on the table. She looked rather peeved. (I would be too if I worked at such a disorganized job). And while I'm not opposed to spicy food whatsoever, I had ordered medium spice and there were crushed jalapeños in my drunken noodles as well as a massive amount of jalapeño seeds which is never an ingredient I've seen in drunken noodles before. It was an extremely high level of heat which is fine but not what i ordered. (and Im Mexican, I can handle my spice). My friend's drunken noodles came to the table already cold. All in all an incredibly poor experience as someone who greatly enjoys Thai food and has eaten at probably over 20 different Thai restaurants throughout my life. The drunken noodles (pad kee mao) take-out is not great. Chicken is tough, the flavor is entirely absent (no basil or oyster/fish flavor at all), and I had to drench it in sriracha. But there are plenty of vegetables, which is good. I ordered spicy 4 (out of 5), but it's impossible that it was anything beyond spicy 1, hence the added sriracha. Unfortunate. 2 of these stars are for the Thai Tea, which is consistently tasty. Get that and I guess nothing else until they get their food back to a consistent standard. read more

I wish I could give this place more stars, as their food has good flavor, but after this latest experience, I am not likely to return. I ordered delivery for lunch this afternoon, ordering the Massaman Curry with beef, and a side order of fried squid. The squid cane with a sweet chili sauce. An hour and fifteen minutes later, my food arrived. I knew it was going to take a bit, as it was projected to come at 1 and it did. However, when I opened my order, the sweet chili sauce had opened and saturated the squid, leaving a mushy inedible mess. The Massaman Curry was very watery, but had good flavor. There was not much beef and I thought I had ordered a lunch side, but was charged $12 for it. Like I said, the flavors are really delicious. This just seemed to be a quality issue. I ordered online and then picked up, and the process was quick and simple! You simply order online and then send the restaurant a text when you're in the parking lot, and they'll tell you that your food is ready to be picked up at the drive-through window. The person who answered my text was super kind and understanding when I said I'd be late getting my food because there was a long line for the COVID vaccine. I accidentally ordered chicken Pad Thai instead of Pad See Ew, but it was a happy mistake because the chicken was tender and the noodles perfectly flavorful. There was even enough food to last me two lunches. I guess my mistake means I'll have to order from here again to try more food! read more

My parents absolutely love this place but unfortunately I'm not as impressed. We've been a handful of times and I've also noticed that the quality of the food and service has declined considerably - not sure if it's a new chef or something but it tastes a little too processed, like it came in frozen and was just reheated in the kitchen. When we went this past weekend, we ordered the Tom Yum soup with shrimp, the chicken satay skewers, one of the stir fry dishes (with black fungus and beef), vegan pad thai (sans the fish sauce and egg), and the massaman curry with chicken. The Tom Yum soup was not as spicy as I remembered, and I found the shrimp to be pretty bland and mealy. It was a disappointment compared to how it was previous times we went. The chicken satay skewers were fine, but again, tasted like they may have been frozen chicken that was just reheated. As for the main dishes, I didn't like the stir fry at all. I thought it was way too oily and the beef was a little too chewy. I had gotten other stir fry dishes at Taste of Thai in the past and enjoyed them, but this one I didn't enjoy. The massaman curry was decent, and the Pad Thai was delicious (ironic, because we made some changes to it from the way that it would have been made otherwise). We actually preferred it with whatever they subbed in for the fish sauce. The service was fine in the beginning, but then our server totally disappeared. We had some massaman curry left over but no rice, so we asked for an extra side, and she just totally forgot and we couldn't find her to flag her down. There was also some awkwardness with having to wait to have silverware brought out for us after our food had already arrived. Another thing is that they usually bring out Andes mints with your check which we like a lot, and we had to ask for them this time. The one saving grace of Taste of Thai is that it's really inexpensive, and, admittedly, the food isn't bad for the price. However, between the fact that it was just mediocre and the service was pretty atrocious, I'm rounding down from 2.5 stars. read more

In a town with lots of Thai choices, TOT Express fell short for me. Although for a group dinner of five people, the service was exceptional (thank you!), the food was average. It's not bad, I just tasted my Pad See Ew to be overly salty. We ordered "fresh rolls" with shrimp to start. The waitress offered to cut the 3 fresh rolls into six pieces for us which was nice for each of us to get a bite! My veggie/tofu Pad See Ew was decent. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy, but the noodles seemed overly salted and salt was the predominant flavor. Ask for a spice rack so you can mix and match some delicious goodies, but when it's overly salted...it's hard to shake that without diluting the dish (which you can't really do!). All in all, I don't think this is a bad choice and keep in mind with this review, I'm only judging them for their one dish -- so some of the other things could be far better (i.e. I've heard their fried rice is phenomenal!). read more

Summary: Taste of Thai Express is an eat-in or take out Thai restaurant. Price: My soda, soup, and fried rice entree were about $15 I think. It was a lot of food and served nicely for leftovers, too! Taste: I've had Thai before, but don't know enough about the cuisine as a whole to judge on the authenticity of it. I can say though that my Tom Yum soup with Shrimp was very good, as was my Spicy Fried Rice with Chicken. The Lime Soda was good, but not quite as good as some of the sparkling limeades I've had in the general region. The spice in the fried rice was nice and not overwhelming (I got a 3 out of 5 spice level), and the addition of the baby corn and assorted vegetables were quite tasty. Atmosphere: We came here for a going away party with a party of 8 and they were very accommodating. The waiters and waitresses were very nice and tentative. We were actually the only ones there for a large duration of the meal, so I can't judge on how it would be with a packed house. Overall: I enjoyed it here! We chose to eat here as some of the other party members recommended it, and it was a good choice. I would come back again and try some of the other items as the menu has a lot of interesting and tasty looking options. Very few places can capture the real taste of authentic Thai food. This restaurant successfully brings a bit of Thailand to you. It appears this place has a loyal following. Families, students, and couples come to this place. I found the service fast and friendly. Many of the wait staff study at Cornell or Ithaca college. So they deserve an extra applause for their hard work at school and here. The food tastes absolutely delicious! The flavors come together to create a symphony of culinary delight. Convenient to downtown, this place offers a wonderful menu of Thai food. The prices look decent. They offer gluten free if you ask. Some of the items include: Fried calamari Pad Thai Pad see ew Assorted vegetables - which you can add chicken, shrimp or tofu to. Fried banana for dessert The decor looks simple and comfortable.
