FANTASTIC SERVICE and incredible donuts. The bread is made in house, very pillowy yet substantial. The prices are extremely affordable and the portions great. I got the coconut shrimp sandwich which was crispy but i believe very overshadowed by the bread itself. It tasted mostly of vinegar and perhaps could've benefited from more shrimp or a balance of ingredients. The donuts were phenomenal! Chewy, soft, squishy, and full of flavor from the dough. Shrimp po boy: fresh baked bread with nice crunch. All flavors worked well. Could have used more shrimp. Overall solid. Buffalo chicken: fresh baked bread. Sauce is a good classic Buffalo but shredded chicken lacking flavor and a little dry. Average. Tried multiple house made sauces and they were all excellent. My sister and I were headed to a show across the street and wanted a bite to eat before the show. The box office suggested Gorgers to get a quick bite. It's a small spot I figured go grab a sub thinking usual deli food but this place was not that. They had chicken, pork or beef subs several different ones to choose as well as sides. The staff was only 2 people. The one person was getting things together the other was waiting on people, packaging and also preparing food. They were very busy maybe could have used one or two more people any way. They ran out of bread after my order so my sister had hers put over fries. You can get everything prepared as a sandwich or a bowl which is a great option. I ordered the Stallone which was steak cheese lettuce and balsamic. I ordered double fried French fries and some donuts that were basically fried dough in cinnamon sugar. My sister ordered cheese steak over fries. She mentioned the cheese sauce was cold and not much steak. My sandwich had a good amount of steak would have liked a little more but flavor was great, bread was very good fries were crispy and delicious. Donuts were about what you'd expect. We arrived around 2-3pm in the afternoon on a weekday and the place was empty. We ordered a medium sub each, and panda wings ( eggplant). The wings were so good, and we thought very fair portion for the price - great tang on the Buffalo sauce and the eggplant was fried well and not overly greasy. The sandwiches were both great . We're both a bit of bread / sandwich snobs being from Philly and their house baked rolls met pit standards :) we were pretty full after eating half of our medium sub, and brought the other half home for dinner. After two visits in a space of days, this place quickly became a favorite of mine. A mere FIVE stars are definitely not adequate! Strolling down State Street one early morning, I noticed a guy in the window of a sub shop rolling out dough, placing it in a baguette pan, obviously in preparation for baking. Whoa! Fresh baked sub rolls. Needless to say, I made it a point to stop back for lunch. As it happened, my first day at Gorgers was also the first day for Lilly, their new cashier. Lilly and all the staff were really friendly and welcoming. I got the Blue Fire sub, which was excellent. A great balance of spiciness and blue cheese creaminess. Deputy Yelper got the Po' Boy, which she pronounced as excellent, too. Great value for the money. Only after ordering did I notice that the menu (very discretely) says that all subs can be made with eggplant or house made seitan. How cool is that? I discussed this with Bart, the owner - he wanted to know if I was satisfied with the flavor balance in the sub - which I was, and I promised I'd be back. On a return visit later in the week, Bart immediately recognized me from before, and recommended the Seitan version of the Mushroom & Swiss sub. Let me just say that my Deputy Yelper, upon tasting Seitan sub, conceded that her long-held dislike of seitan was a serious mistake. Definitely a home run! Take note all vegetarians and vegans. Not only is there the house-made seitan and house-baked rolls, they have an espresso machine. So along with a delicious sub, you can pick up a latte. It doesn't get better! read more

One of my favorite places in Ithaca! They have such a vast variety of subs which are stuffed with fresh ingredients too. My favorites are their Buffalo Chicken and Bahn Mi subs. The Buffalo Chicken is well seasoned, moist, and tender. It's then loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions that add a series of textures and freshness. The Red Hot sauce and Blue Cheese accompany each other so well to provide that perfect heat and tanginess. Their Bahn Mi sub is definitely not your traditional báhn mì, but a really good sandwich nonetheless. The bread was perfectly warm with a crispy exterior and chewy and soft interior. The pulled pork is also tender and juicy, and I love the additions of pickled carrots and cilantro to cut the fattiness and grease of the pork. The Mushroom and Swiss sub was less flavorful in my opinion, and the shredded grilled steak was dry and didn't seem marinated. The addition of the swiss wasn't very homogenized with the steak either. The Chicken Bacon Ranch was okay, but felt very very heavy afterwards. The Po'Boy was also decent. Overall, this is a great place for subs, and I highly recommend trying it out! This turned out to be a really fun place. We're just walking through downtown Ithaca literally just trying to see what we can find to eat. We see this place from the outside and go in and have a look! It's a bit tight inside and they are thoroughly working hard behind the counter. But we were helped by a friendly lady who let us thoroughly grill her about the menu. I settled on the bonh mi Vietnamese sandwich. Was so good! Just full of flavor and ingredients and definitely worth the price. The baguette was so fresh and I thoroughly remember just how soft and tasteful it was. One of the best I've ever had! Came to Ithaca because I'm a flight attendant and had a layover here. Wasn't gonna get food but decided to check out this sandwich place anyway. Glad I did cause wow!! The people working were very nice and very welcoming. I ordered a small teriyaki chicken sandwich and let me tell you, it's NOT small!!!! I was debating getting a medium and I'm glad I didn't. Couldn't even eat the small one. Haha!! It came on the softest most delicious bread I've ever had with shredded chicken, onions and grilled pineapple pieces in a teriyaki sauce. The pineapple was a bit too sweet but still really good. I think that combo would be AMAZING in a honey bbq sauce. Still good with the teriyaki tho. The place itself was small. At first I thought it was closed cause I didn't see lights or anything but that's probably cause it was very bright outside. I came here a few days ago after not coming here for about a year, and I'm still convinced that Gorgers makes the best sandwiches in town. Even better - no one seems to know about this place and there were about three people in the entire restaurant on a Saturday evening. I got the banh mi, which was absolutely enormous despite me getting a 9 inch "medium" option. I eat a lot of Banh Mis at home, and Gorgers' take on it was quite good. It definitely has some differences - they put way more meat and carrots on the one here. Honestly, I think the sandwich might be better if they put a little less filling in the sandwich (and mixed the ingredients together so that I wasn't taking bites of only meat/carrot). They were a bit inconsistent though, some bites were dry and others had a ton of sauce. Be ready for a lot of bread. We came here after driving up from NYC area, and after stopping by the Ithaca falls for a quick lunch. And I was soo impressed with their sandwiches! I ordered the Banh Mi and the Shrimp Po' Boy. Our favorite was definitely the Banh Mi! At first I was skeptical of getting the Banh Mi because it was the only Asian sandwich on the menu. But I was so impressed with the flavoring they were able to pack into that sandwich with the perfectly tender pulled pork. To be honest, I'm usually not a fan of pulled pork. But I finished every last bit of that sandwich! The size of the sandwich was also massive. Could have easily shared between two people honestly. The Shrimp Po' Boy was a bit on the greasy side and the shrimp was a bit overcooked, but still was a decent sandwich. Definitely coming back here for the Banh Mi if we're ever up in Ithaca again though! They had a couple of tables for outside dining on the sandwich. But we just ordered to-go online. This had been a nice shop pre-pandemic where you could hole up at a wooden table and scarf dwon a bowl of chowder or a quite decent sandwich ... Unfortunately, in more recent times, the quality, especially calibre of meat; and the feeling of the service as well, just seemed to keep plummeting ... Then the last time I stepped in here the other day, still giving it a last chance; while I was waiting for my order I heard the clerk attempt to explicitly wheedle the promise of a tip in advance -- for a take-out order! -- from the customer who was up at the register ... The clerk acted as if doing so was part of taking the order , and I heard him say "And what you got for ME?" ?!?! I have to think my own days as a patron here are over ... If there's someone minding the store they should make sure they have good, working surveillance with audio, so that the culprit can hopefully be dismissed ...
