    Chicken Bowl
    Steve S.

Needed a simple dinner while staying across the street with family. We love kabab in general so this was an easy call for local pickup. Both my wife and I loved the chicken bowl and wrap. The chicken was tender, not dry, and all the flavors blended very well. I got some extra beef and lamb to try with some pita bread. Again, nice flavors. In this case, the meat was a little on the tough side. Still good but not as tender as the chicken.

Soo delicious and authentic! Coming from Lebanese background I know good Mediterranean food! This is it! Owner is middle eastern too and such a sweet lady! Very reasonably priced and super clean. Definitely worth every penny.

I really hope my 1st experience was a bad day and not the trend. Ordered the family platter with beef, lamb and chicken. The beef was so overcooked and dry, they need to adjust. The lamb wasn't so bad but still too tough. The chicken was very tender. The saffron rice was good and fluffy. For sides I went with the roasted potatoes and falafel. The potato's were good but the falafel wasn't impressive, hard and not very flavorful. I hope to give the place another try but not take off as that might have been the issue. The order also didn't come with any sauce or tzatziki for dipping or to help with the overcooked meat.

Since hearing about Tasty Kabab, I've dropped in 3 times since 11/23/22. I can't seem to get enough of the Moroccan tagine - I've ordered it each time. Twice I had the lamb tagine; one time I tried the chicken tagine. The chicken tagine was a little dry (but still tasty), but the lamb is excellent because it's so tender and flavorful. Both dishes are served in huge portions, so order their tagine if you're hungry. The staff was friendly each time and they were eager to answer any questions I had (I didn't have many). I had a nice discussion regarding the Coke in glass bottles, which I refer to as Mexican Coke. This particular Coke is made with pure cane sugar. It is much better than the Coke in the plastic bottles (not made with pure cane sugar). The lady I spoke to mentioned that they have it available in her home country, too, hence the reason why they sell it. So basically I can't call it Mexican Coke anymore. Oh well! Tasty Kabab is also clean and looks brand new, although the building it's located in (in Janaf) has been around for a few years. I think the only issue I noticed is that their fountain machine doesn't seem to have ice. It was empty 2 of the 3 times I visited. This is a minor issue, though, unless you dine in and order a fountain soda. Tasty Kabab, from my perspective, is excellent. I love a good lamb dish and their tagine hits the spot. Service is fantastic, too, and their establishment is clean and tidy. Thank you, Tasty Kabab! JV

Falafel combo platter- I selected fries and eggplant for my sides.

Yooooooooo!!!! This spot is killing it. This a mom and pop run restaurant that is set in Janaf Shopping Center. On this particular day o was in the mood for falafel, so I thought that I would give Tasty Kabob a try. The owners are a very sweet couple who run a tight ship. The first thing I noticed when entering the restaurant was how simple the decor is. The focus is most certainly on the food. While waiting for my meal I could not help but notice how clean the restaurant is. Even the bathroom was sparkling. I ordered the falafel platter, you can add whatever toppings you prefer. The falafel platter is saffron rice topped with falafel. I added pickled beets, cucumbers, purple cabbage, lettuce, hummus, tzatziki sauce and the garlic sauce. I skipped the house sauce as it is tomato based and I'm allergic to tomatoes. The falafel was flavorful and cooked to perfection. They were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. For sides I decided on eggplant and fries. I don't normally care for eggplant but decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. The fries, WOW, the batter made these so delicious. The fries were crunchy and so good. I dipped the fries in the garlic sauce and was blown away. The owners are so sweet and even make suggestions on foods to try. The level of hospitality at Tasty Kabob is off the charts. I will most certainly return to try another dish. Thank you Tasty Kabob for a delicious meal and wonderful hospitality. You really know how to make your guests feel welcomed.

Tasty Kabab is a family owned Mediterranean style restaurant, one with some unique Moroccan influences, that opened its doors at JANAF Shopping Center in October of last year. It is tucked and hidden away among a row of stores in a newer and outermost strip section of the JANAF complex that wasn't there when it first opened back in 1959. I had a hard time finding it during my first visit. There is a Game Stop to its immediate left and an Edible Arrangements to its immediate right. A Verizon store is also nearby in sight. Their cuisine features Halal meats and fresh ingredients with a variety of Kabab platters, Shawarma dishes, Moroccan Tagine dishes, Pitas, Wraps, Falafel, and more. This is a counter service operation, where you pay for your order first at the register and wait until it is ready. I enjoyed the following dishes during three lunch time visits this month: CHICKEN SHAWARMA BOWL: Slow Roasted Marinated Chicken, Hummus, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Purple Cabbage, Fried Eggplant, Pickles, and Banana Peppers over Saffron Rice. I also ordered a slice of Pita Bread to go with it, mainly for decorating my bowl. This was the dish I ordered for my Yelp 757 Deal. The person at the register didn't seem to understand the Yelp deal at first, perhaps due to a language barrier. I did my best to put her at ease while showing her the Yelp deal on my phone and also on the display by the register. She eventually understood, and the deal went through successfully. The Saffron Rice and Chicken were placed in the bowl first. I then told the person working behind the counter which of the toppings I wanted, and she added them accordingly. I declined all of their sauces, as I have never liked the look of sauces drizzled on my food. They offer three sauces--Garlic, Tahini, and a House Made Hot Sauce that includes mayonnaise, a condiment that has never agreed with me. When it was ready, I took it to my table to enjoy. The combination of ingredients and their flavors blew me away. The Saffron Rice was divine. This was truly one of the most outstanding Shawarma bowls I have ever enjoyed. I also had enough left over to take home for a second meal: My Rating: 5 Stars. CHICKEN TAGINE: This is a traditional slow-cooked Moroccan dish, one that comes with Braised Bone-In Chicken, Onions, and Assorted Spices. The version here also came with their Saffron Rice. The Tagine also refers to a North African cone shaped clay or ceramic pot with a lid, which is used to cook their Tagine dishes. The chicken was tender and juicy, easily falling off its bones and melting in my mouth with an explosion of flavor. This one lasted me for two more meals when I took the rest home. I would have liked just a few more onions in the mix. My Rating: 4.5 Stars. I also enjoyed the following Sides with this dish: ROASTED POTATOES: They were a bit on the cool side and did not seem to hold their temperature well in the steam tray behind the counter. I only ate a few of them and took the rest home with the rest of my Chicken Tagine. Once I reheated them at home, their roasted flavor and texture came roaring back in full force with the warmth with which they were meant to be served. My Rating: 4 Stars. MOUSSAKA: This is a classic Middle Eastern Eggplant dish and one I had never tried before, providing me with a new culinary adventure. I loved its taste and texture, and there was a mildly spicy sauce underneath with a nice kick that added to my enjoyment. My Rating: 5 Stars. CHICKEN KABAB BOWL: Grilled Chicken Kababs with Cucumber, Tomato, Purple Cabbage, Red Pepper Sauce, and Banana Peppers over Saffron Rice. Large chucks of Chicken Kababs were slowly grilled behind the counter as I watched and then added to the Saffron Rice. I followed the same procedure as before with their Chicken Shawarma dish by picking out my desired toppings and turning down the sauces. The Chicken Kababs were tender and tasty, combining beautifully with the other ingredients and busting with flavor. Once again, I had enough left over to take home for a second meal. This dish also came with two sides, and I chose the same ones I did before with excellent results. My Rating: 5 Stars. BAKLAVA: I decided to order their version of this classic Middle Eastern pastry dessert to take home. It hit all the right notes and was delightfully sweet, nutty, and flaky. It wasn't quite the best version I ever had, but it was better than many of the other versions I've had. My Rating: 4.5 Stars. Tasty Kabab has been socking my senses with some awesome flavors to date. Service has been friendly and accommodating. One server even helped me seal up my bowl to take home what I didn't finish. Based on my three visits this month, my food numbers round up easily to a 5-star rating, and I am looking forward to my future visits.

Lamb and beef bowl. Very disappointed :(

Once again, Yelp has us folks informed of new businesses popping up in the area. With the 7.57 deal in play, checking them out is even better. So, Sophia and I joined up with a new friend from our social group to see if this place lived up to reviews. Well, we were in for a surprise to say the least. At first glance, the decor inside was really good. Spotless and enough tables to fill a nice little crowd. We were greeted by staff once we walked in and off to ordering we went. Unfortunately, that was when the decline started. Upon checking in, I noticed there was no deal popping up on the app. I even did the QR code scan, but nothing. Turns out the 7.57 deal is nowhere to be found on their business page compared to the rest that's advertising deals. And I even checked in 3 times on my phone, but to no avail. And the lady behind the counter looked confused when I was trying to explain what was happening. To save the argument, I went ahead and just ordered at the regular price thinking I would have leftovers to eat at home for dinner. Well, that's where the situation went more downhill. I selected the lamb and beef bowl with everything except a few items. I selected garlic sauce since they were out of tzatziki, which is no biggie. I asked the lady what was in their house hot sauce. Apparently, there was a language barrier because she just spread it on the bowl. She couldn't tell me what was in it saying, and I may've heard incorrectly, that they don't make the sauce here. Huh???? I did sort of a double take. I've never worked in the food industry, but I'm sure if folks work at any restaurant, they should know what ingredients go in meals or sauces. Some people have allergies and can't eat certain things. However, I just went with the flow and tried the food. Well, it was a thumbs down. The protein looked like big chunks instead of thinly-sliced meat and appeared to be dry. Seasoning was in the meal, but it did not work. And the person who was with Sophia and I actually picked meat out of her wrap. Not good at all. And to top things off, our new friend had to make a b-line to the bathroom right before she went home. When you read this, please don't assume I'm a Debbie Downer or one who slams a business. This here was a complete disappointment. From the deal not working to the food not tasting good to not knowing what's in a sauce, it was a total letdown. I am for small businesses and hoping they succeed in a market that has its ups and downs, especially post-pandemic. Are there bad days? Absolutely. Can they rebound? Absolutely. But this here did not live up to the hype. And also, their location isn't the best where they're hidden behind an Aldi and people can blink and miss it while driving by. I do hope they're able to fix the kinks that are present, but as a customer, I don't see myself coming back. Sorry :(

Stopped by to redeem my 7.57Deal for a pita or bowl of your choice. I opted for the bowl with lamb. The base of the bowl was rice, topped with your meat choice and topping. I added hummus, tahini, olives, pickles, and red cabbage. It was also drizzled with their house sauce and garlic sauce. My bowl was bursting with all the Mediterranean flavor that I love, and the portion was huge. The environment is very casual, and they were not busy at all. Tasty Kabob is definitely worth a visit, and I would stop by again when in janaf

We had 4 starving people in our party and we finally tried Tasty Kabab on a cool, windy May afternoon. Our party was ages 54, 50, 15, and 14. And we were famished this particular day. It took us 40 minutes to get our food, but I don't blame the restaurant or staff whatsoever for this, as it was just how things worked out this day. There was one other family of customers in there and they literally ordered the minute before I was ready to order. And that's normal, that's okay, but the problem was right after theirs and our big orders were placed, immediately a new couple came in and inquired every detail of what was in the food, what was in the sauces, could they substitute meats for cheaper prices, and honestly they argued and discussed with the owner for 30 minutes! You need to understand this greatly hindered their food production ability, as there were only 2 or 3 people, including the owner, preparing and cooking. So when our order was ready, it had been over 40 minutes we waited. The owner was very apologetic, but we weren't mad. We were amused at that overbearing couple. In fact, the only reason I share this aspect of our experience, is to illustrate how and why our hunger, which was already 10/10, got pushed to 11, Spinal Tap fans....yes, 11. The food looked and smelled so good, we could barely control ourselves from digging in like livestock to a trough. For $59.99, we were satisfied with how the portion looked. First, the fries. Probably the crispiest fries I've ever had, ever in 54 years, and they were pretty great. Wife and kids agreed. Fries were 10/10. When I got to request ketchup for the fries, the owner also gave us a few condiment cups of several of their sauces. There was a white garlicky one, and a orangish pinkish one, both were good. So how about them thar shawarmas? We all started with a chicken one, and the first bite or two was intense with the unique seasonings and veggies mix in it with the grilled chicken. Subsequent bites began to reveal it was actually very lightly seasoned and needed sauce to kick it up. Now for me, this is perfect. I like to control my saltines by various sauces and dips. I really liked it. The wife and kids thought it was bland, but good, and once they sprinkled salt all over theirs, they agreed it was very good. My score for the chicken shawarma was 9/10. Wife and kids, 8/10. On to the beef. Frankly, we all agreed the beef shawarmas were so bland, with no beef or grill flavor, that no amount of salt or sauce could redeem it. However, I liked their sauces and with heavy amounts on the beef, I found it good. 6.5/10 The wife and kids, however, gave the beef 4/10. The restaurant is very clean inside, bright, cheerful. The owner is very friendly, willing to explain things. To what extent the beef wasn't seasoned as well as the chicken was due to the "incident" they had earlier, I don't know, but we will surely try them again soon. The fries are awesome, the chicken shawarmas are very good. And I want to try a bowl next time. So we left full, very full, and still took home 3 shawarma sections. Later at home, I ate one of the leftover bland beef ones, and put some avocado ranch on it, and it easily skyrocketed to, you guessed it, an 11!

Reviewed based off of Grubhub order. I have had my eye on this restaurant for awhile and have been looking for an opportunity to try it out. I love Mediterranean/middle eastern cuisine. We ordered the mixed grilled kebab platter ($28) and a few other sides. The negative is the chicken, kofta, and lamb were very dry and overcooked. The dish did not come with any sauce on the side. The $28 platter was smaller than I expected, it was really difficult to eat the meat. I would not recommend the mixed grill platter, not worth the money or taste. The rice that came with the platter was very delicious. For the sides we ordered the falafel, moussaka, cabbage, Mediterranean salad, and beet salad. The falafel was very hard, dry, and bland. The moussaka was tasty. The Mediterranean salad seemed to not be fresh and soggy. The cabbage was good, had good flavor. The delivery by Grubhub was perfect, my order arrived ahead of schedule. They definitely missed the mark on taste for me. Can't emphasize enough how dry the meat was, very difficult to eat even when you are very hungry. We didn't come close to finishing the food from this restaurant. Maybe this was a bad day, because I've seen more positive reviews. Also I did not receive my beet salad I ordered. I did not attempt to reach out to the restaurant because it was a small item on my order.

    The Chicken Wrap
    Liberty G.

Ordered a bowl and a wrap. One chooses the meat and some sides. You can order fries on the side. All sides other than the ones included are extra. It tasted overall good. The wrap skins are prepackaged and the potatoes are frozen. The meat and veggies are fresh though. The downside was that this place was really understaffed so the order took around 30 minutes and nobody else was there. Make sure you have time if you come here! Also, there were no Mediterranean drinks available, only normal fountain drinks.

I was driving by the area and saw this place and decided to go in, the inside looked very clean and the owners were very welcoming. I got the kofta platter with saffron rice and hummus and pita side. Everything was seasoned well and flavorful. I will definitely come back to try their other dishes

For the booths, they were actually two tables put together, but that wasn't no big deal. We were for the most part the only customers inside. The location is one where people would pass on West Mercury Blvd so it's easy to miss. Come to think of it, I believe this used to be another restaurant that occupied the building. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong. After looking at the menu for a few minutes, we were both ready to order. I selected their lamb shawarma which came with French fries on the side along with white garlic sauce and ketchup. The food was cooked well, but a few things came to mind. I've had shawarmas before which had a lot of meat and were cut in strips. This one had meat, but it was cut up and plus the seasoning was barely there. It had plenty of veggies inside, but it lacked the amount of protein needed to balance the two. Sophia's plate (which was chicken shawarma) had the same thing and it looked like they lacked the number of fries that my plate contained. In my opinion, this dish isn't one of their popular items to cook from their menu. For anyone who reads this review, please don't take it as being harsh. It's just constructive. I can say Sophia and I will be back here to try another dish and give them another go.
