I came with a friend (i.e. table for two) around noon for lunch. We were both surprised to see how busy this place was on a weekday (i.e. Tuesday). I'm pretty sure these aren't people who work nearby and having their lunch break, as this type of food isn't really a quick grab-n-go. It seemed like everyone was here like us, to socialize and catch up over a meal. The place is quite spacious. I love that there's a lot of comfortable booth seating and that the benches are made of plastic - meaning easy to wipe down and keep clean. Overall, the restaurant was kept tidy and clean. The washroom was a bit more of your typical sketchy Chinese restaurant washroom though (heh). For women's, it's a two staller, though one was out of service. It's cramped but not so small that you'll swipe a wall when turning around. Thankfully, there's paper towel to dry your hands and not hand dryers (which only spread germs in my opinion). Now back to the food. This was my first time ever having individual-sized hot pot. I opted for the "Cheesey Milk Hot Soup" which I had already had my heart set on when reviewing the menu before coming. It comes with Taiwanese cabbage, pork slices, vermicelli, mini sausage, enoki mushroom, tomato, corn, broccoli, king oyster mushroom, quail egg, cheese, bamboo shoot, soft tofu, imitation crabmeat, fish fillet, kamaboko, and cheese ball; as a preset but you can also eliminate and/or add toppings to make it to your liking. Soup base was surprisingly light yet flavorful, and ordering it at mild spice level was perfect for me. I was as curious as to how thirsty I would be after the meal, which I think says a lot, but I was actually okay. Portion-wise, I was well satisfied after the meal. Overall, it felt like a well balanced meal with a little bit of carbs, meat, and veggies. Oh, I should also mention that at each table, they lay out four complementary sauces that you can use unlimitedly. I've included a photo but there are: soybean sauce, garlic soy, satay sauce, and Sriracha hot chilli sauce. If you visit between 11 am to 3 pm, you also get a complementary green or black tea (hot or cold), or you can upgrade your drink for an additional $3 to one of their milk tea beverages. I got their cold green tea with no ice and regular sugar - this was perfect to cool down after the hot meal. Speaking of which, I'm curious as to how their little pots work because it kept the food hot the whole time while eating, and when I was done, it stopped steaming?! Timer perhaps? Service was overall okay, there's not much to it. Upon seating, they came over to help me set a place with a bowl, napkin, and utensils; but never explained that you scan the QR code on the wall to view the menu and order - we kind of just realized on our own. No compliants though, I prefer this kind of ordering system because it lets you really think through your options and eases the process, especially for an introvert such as myself. When the food is ready, it is brought over personally by one of their employees. The most service we got was when someone came over and asked if we wanted more broth added to our pots. The last of it was getting the bill and having them clean our table. The pot I chose was $18.99 and the other flavors are at a similar price point, unless you choose something like the lobster pot at $25.00 plus. I finally was able to check this joint out! This place was highly recommended by all my friends in the States as they have over 38+ locations all over North America. This place is ideal for those of you who wants convenient style hotpot as they are famous for their individual "hotpot". It's basically a big pot of soup filled with cooked ingredients with your choice of noodles on the side to accompany your soup with. I opted for the Taiwan Stinky Tofu Hot Soup while my boyfriend picked the Kimchi Hot Soup. The serving size was generous (as seen in my photos) and easily shareable between 2 people for those who didn't have a big appetite... or those who wanted to have a "round 2" meal for next day. Autumn chill is finally upon us. So what better way to stay warm than a hotpot meal. Hard to go wrong with the colourful assortment of flavours at Tasty Pot for Taiwanese-style hot soups. It's certainly better here than when I tried it in Taipei, dining facing the open door partially exposed to the cold wind! For starters, Tasty Pot has a decent interior in which we were seated in a cozy corner table. Its menu far exceeded the low bar that I set. Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hotpot contained a heaping portion of beef, noodles, mushroom, rice cake, clam, blood rice cake & much more. It was mildly spicy, as the menu indicated. The Lamb Hotpot arrived in medium size with fish cakes, lamb slices, napa, crabmeat, beef ball, vermicelli. Mix with garlic soy sauce & satay sauce, and it's perfect with a bowl of noodles. Broth was savoury, and dinner portions left us more than full. Asiatic deliciousness! This first visit made me eager to try Tasty Pot again. For an encore, I also had an opportunity to try Seafood Lobster & Japanese Miso Hotpots, which were equally savoury. Of note, minced pork rice bowls added some Taiwanese flare. So far, I've tried mild Thai Style (which is basically Tom Yum Soup), mild cheesy milk (surprisingly my favourite) and curry. I think the curry would have been better if I got mild because no spice made it taste bland/watered down. They give you four sauces: soybean paste, garlic soy, satay sauce, and chilli oil. Soybean paste mixed with the garlic sauce was amazing. I also tried the spicy stinky tofu & shaved ice with taro balls. Both were good in their own ways but I wouldn't order them again. Service was really good. The girl was really nice and attentive to our table. They also didn't rush us to leave even though they had a lot of people waiting. The only reason why I took of one star was because I wish the noodles came with free refills. Just felt that it would justify the price a bit more. The beef hot soup has a bit of a satay flavor. On the menu in Chinese it says satay beef, but the English description only says beef hot soup. The first time I visited, we received wonderful service and servers were very attentive. We got many water refills as well as soup broth refills as well. However, if the shop is a bit busy, they seem understaffed and have a bit of tunnel-vision. Their menu offers a nice range of different soup bases for hotpot for one. These solo pots come with a flame that will keep your soup bubbling through the whole meal! You pick your soup base, level of spicy, and a carb option (rice, rice noodle, vermicelli, udon/others for an additional price). They also have lunch combos or early bird specials where the hot pot will come with a drink. My favourite soup base is the cheesy milk! It is more of a soybean milk flavour with a bit of sweetness rather than the 2% milk you can get straight up from the grocery store. Each pot comes with slightly different ingredients inside and can range from fermented tofu to fishballs to seafood items. On one of the occasions, I ordered a side order of the fermented tofu and I think it was spoiled... I felt nauseous immediately during the dinner and could not even finish my pot. I should probably start off by saying that I'm not a fan of hot pot, however, I did enjoy my lunch at Tasty Pot. The price for each pot is different but the pricing is fair. Almost everyone had their individual pot, but I think that if you have a small appetite, one larger pot can be shared between two. We shared four pots between 7 of us and still had leftover. Beef Hot Soup - Pretty standard / ordinary, I would not recommend this one nor would I order it again. Japanese Miso Hot Soup - Again, the flavour is very light. It's not my #1 choice and I wouldn't order this base again. Curry Flavour Hot Soup - It was not the curry flavour I was expecting. I thought it would be spicier but it was actually on the sweet side. It was still a nice flavour and I liked it. Thai Flavour Hot Soup - This one was the tastiest one of all of them. I liked the strong flavour of the tom yom soup base and the ingredients absorbed the taste really well. Each pot is served with all the ingredients inside already. They are pre-set which is a little different than other hot pot places where you can pick and choose. The ingredients were relatively similar and the variations were in the meat (some had seafood including shrimp and squid, other sets had pork or beef, etc.). There are also add-ons but I felt that they weren't necessarily worth the price. Each bowl is also served with either rice (on the side) or vermicelli (in the pot). I prefer the vermicelli so that it can absorb the taste of the soup base in the hot pot. We also got bubble tea (can't remember if it was included in the price or if it was an add-on). We tried 4 out of 5 on their Top 5 menu. The Half and Half Milk Tea was my favourite. I would get it again if it was included in my meal but I wouldn't pay another $5 for it with all the BBT shops across the street. read more

I had seen so many yummy looking posts on instagram and was drawn in. This is a different type of hotpot for me. I'm used to putting in my own meats, veggies, etc into the pot to cook. Here you choose the variation you'd like from the menu and it's brought out all put together. There wasn't much difference in the soup bases unless you got something very different from the others, like cheesy milk hot soup. It seemed like most had some of the same ingredients i.e., quail eggs, tofu, etc. I found that ordering 1 pot for myself was too much and ordering a larger one to share with someone else would be much better. At dinner there's the option to add a bubble tea drink for $1 which is a steal. I believe the drink is included in the price for lunch. It's also nice to have something cold and sweet to drink to offset the meal. The couple of times we had to ask about the menu or for chopsticks the servers were super polite and helpful. The presentation of the food was nice, and the servers would come around constantly to refill the soup base. I went with my family tonight to try this place, service was excellent and the foods was better than I expected. I gotta give them a 6 stars if I can, first of all, we went at around 6 and they gave us a table(7 ppl) right away no wait at all, then there was ppl started waiting at the door for tables but we didn't get rush to go. Secondly, i forgot and left my Hermes card case there, i guess they waited to see if i would go bk to pick it up but i totally forgot about it so they call the phone number that we left on the bill and told me(my hub) about it. Tasty Pot is my go to place when I want to get a quick hot pot fix. I honestly enjoy my meals here every time and leave feeling very satisfied. They serve their hotpots on a burner that keeps the pot hot for the majority of your meal. I ordered the cheesy milk broth and my boyfriend ordered the Taiwanese spicy hot pot. Both had a different set of ingredients and the quantity was generous for my appetite. If you love cheese like I do, I would suggest trying the milk broth. The melted cheese on the ingredients was a pleasant surprise and I really enjoyed the rich flavours of the soup. I just wished that they could provide a larger variety of dipping sauces as they currently only offer 4 at the table. They currently have some social distancing in the restaurant and customers are seated at every other booth/table. If you visit on the weekends I would suggest calling beforehand to make sure they have a table as it does get busy. read more
