The service was terrible. We kept trying to look for our server for each thing we needed. I ordered steak fajitas and forget getting them on a sizzling skillet. They were lukewarm. The rice and beans were lukewarm as well. For me it's overpriced for what we had. Then it was another task to flag down the serve to bring containers to go. Instead she came with the check and left again. Came back and instead of waiting for me to provide my card, she brought the device that runs the card and rudely stood there as I had to figure out a tip. She was extremely friendly and shared with us about her other restaurants. My husband and I tried Tatas Kitchen tonight for the first time. I had no expectations due to the reviews. But we had a very good experience. We played it safe with simple Al Pastor dinners and side order of guac/ chips. 2 margaritas that tasted good 1/2 off Tuesday. They were slightly weak but tasted good. The interior is beautiful. Our waitress Sandra was very attentive. It was a shame that only a few tables were occupied. I understand why the kitchen/bar is limited there is just not enough customers. I'm writing this hoping it will change the star status. People need to patronize thus beautiful local restaurant. We will be back and will probably bring some friends. We had been to Tatas other location on Irving Park Road years ago (before they served liquor). Decided to see how they could have two locations so close to one another. Cool interior. Saw the menu and assumed a $25 three-taco dinner was upgraded from what we had remembered- IT WASN'T. Assume it's $7 for each of the tiny tacos and $4 for a small dish of rice and beans. $8 for horchata or hibiscus. $180 for 2 adults and 2 kids is too much. Won't go back. read more

The rooftop is a pretty cool feature but they are way overpriced for the area and the quality of food. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that charges $12 for chips and salsa. I was shocked because we didn't even order them the waiter said would you like to start off with chips and salsa and we said sure. The chips were not even fresh and they were out of a bag not homemade. Also, they do not allow you to order individual tacos you have to order a taco dinner which is also unheard of. We were in this evening for the Comedy event and were absolutely blown away with the venue. The interior is clean and sleek while still being inviting. The menu was innovative and well done with several interesting options, but nothing too outlandish or overly done. We ordered about 5 things and the plating on every dish was beautiful. Each dish was better than the last and not one of us (4 women) had a bad thing to say about it. I found the crab cakes to be delightful. The texture was crisp on the outside and velvety on the inside. The mango salsa and slaw were the perfect complement to the dish. Christopher was our server, and he was just as sweet as could be. I could tell that it was very important to him that we enjoy every aspect of our visit (and we did!). We were checked on frequently and attended to as if we were the only guests in the room. We were also greeted and welcomed by both the manager (Mike) as well as one of the owners. Huge thanks to Tatas for a much needed amazing evening. We just finished our dinner here and it was very good! Wife and I had a lucky night without the kids and came to our new neighborhood spot. Service was great - even the runners had smiles on underneath their masks . We ordered the al pastor flatbread (which was the best of the bunch), guacamole and salsa (just like you get at tatas down the street) and a steak jibarito (steak was cooked perfectly). And the drinks were on point, especially the classic margarita. Excited for when the weather gets warmer and we can enjoy the rooftop deck! And to the first reviewer, it was DAY ONE. Came with a couple of friends and we were all pleasantly surprised! The tacos and service were outstanding. I had the Nola taco - blackened fish so tasty and the chili relleno taco was as well. Friends had the tux taco steak and scallop and they really liked it. Also we had the jicama slaw which was so good. What the heck is going on in this restaurant? First ofnall the staff is untrained. They literally do not know how to waitress for the life of them. But at least they try. However they have been set up for failure. Upon ordering drinks, they were our of 3 of their speciality margaritas. Soooo.... at 640 pm, on a Friday you are out of half of your signature drinks. Drinks contained so little alcohol it was absurd. How are you going to charge 13 dollars for half an ounce of alcohol..... Beer, well they use draft beer prices upstairs on their rooftop.but the glasses are not half as full as downstairs. Wine.... what a joke. I have pictures of the absurdity. They put a plastic cup of wine, inside of a plastic cup of ice and served it because they did not have chilled wine. First of all, who serves wine in a cup that's the equivelent of a solo cup? Secondly....seriously. At that point, just shake the wine with ice.... Later glasses were served with ice in the actual glass. Food was even worse than drinks. Just don't order it. I don't know what happened, their tacos from the original place are good. We got the guac and chips, which was fine and as good as most restaurants would be. Also got the pinche, nachos, bacon wrapped shrimp, fries, flatbread, and Mac and cheese. Okay pinche was fine in flavor but extremely fatty. Nachos were good but mostly chips. Shrimp were good whendippwd in sauce, otherwise not good. Fries were bland and lacking sauce. Flatbread was just not good. But the Mac and cheese.... was literally the most flavorless bland salt-less Mac and cheese I have ever had in my life. With no exaggeration at all, 1 dollar kraft blue box has 10x more flavor and Indont even like that stuff. It took at least 40 minutes to get our first round of drinks and chips and salsa. The next few rounds came very fast. Like, this place was honestly just bad. For 240 bucks.... there are places 50x better to go. I know you're remotely new.... but you already have a restaurant. We frequent Tata's Tacos, and were really excited to see them opening a restaurant in this location. The decor reminds me of one of our trips to the Caribbean. Clean and airy. I ordered a margarita and my husband ordered a local (Old Irving Brewing) beer. Service was prompt and our waiter was attentive. It's sad to say that I started writing this review while still sitting at the table with my family. That's how bad this restaurant was. The prices are expensive and you have to pay extra for everything. Usually Mexican restaurants offers chips and salsa at no extra charge, not this place. I ordered a burrito and it was horrible, had no flavor whatsoever, it was stuffed with rice, beans, lettuce and barely any al pastor meat, mind you, when you order al pastor, the meat is usually greasy, this burrito was dry, that I asked for salsa and was told that there's an extra charge for salsa. My husband ordered the "La Dama" entree, the grilled vegetables were salty, the chicken was very dry and salty as well, and the 3 corn tortillas were very very oily. My daughter ordered a jumbo quesadilla and the cheese was not fully melted, and the pico del gallo didn't have any pico or gallo. We ordered the classic churro dessert, the sticks were very staled and hard to chew. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food for the price that we paid, I will not recommend this to anyone. read more

This place has gotten it together! I'm so thrilled! The venue is stunning-spacious and cool. And now the menu is what I've wanted all along- Tata's amazing food with a plethora of delicious cocktails. We order from Tara's about once a month. Our favorites are the guac, the quesadillas, the Lakeview taco, the shrimp taco, la Sucia burrito, and--you'll never believe this--but the simple grilled veggie tacos are excellent. We just carry out these days but when I picked up last Friday I was pleased to see that guests were safely spaced out. I look forward to dining in at this location soon! read more

Long story short -- Give this place a few months to work out its many kinks before trying it. Tons of potential but...yikes. We really, really wanted to like this place right off the bat -- energetic latin music and BEAUTIFUL interior -- but unfortunately after waiting 30 mins to get a menu, 1 hour to receive our first drink, no appetizer received yet after 1 hour & 40 minutes, we threw a $20 on the table and left. Burger King got our business that night. We were checked on twice in the first 1 hour. Granted we completely understood that it was opening weekend and that there would be some growing pains, the room was half full with Covid-spaced tables so I can't imagine how painful a full house would be right now. The servers and greeter were nice, but clearly were not trained long enough to be effective. Nobody looked like they knew what they were doing. The few gulps of Jalapeno Margarita and Paloma ($10/ea) that we were able to finally enjoy were good, so perhaps we'll go back and give them another try in the Summer. Good luck, Tata's! read more

Visited this weekend to check out a band that played there. The place is nice inside - roomy. But that is about the only good thing I can say about this place. Two from my group tried to order a glass of Rose. The waitress came back and said they didn't have any. Second choice was merlot. Nop3, none of that either. I ordered nachos - no protein. It was $12 for a shovel ful of tortilla chips with like 8 beans, a small hunk of cheese in the middle coated in sour cream and julienned lettuce and jalapeños. Such a disappointment for the price we paid. The cucumber lime margarita was tasty but there didn't seem to be any tequila in there at all. Another group member was drinking Jarritos soda. When they asked for another of the same flavor, instead of telling us they were out, they substituted their own choice for us. We ended up exchanging it for another flavor. Our waitress disappeared after taking drink and food orders. We ended up having to flag down another server that eventually took over. And at the end of the night we had to walk up to the bar to get the bill. Overall, this place is very pricey for mediocre food and subpar service. read more

Just read some comments on this place and I agree with one of them. Give this place a few months before you try it. Menu is limited and has more of a bar menu than a full restaurant, pretty good food though. Mashed potatoes were served cold yesterday but that's ok. They recovered nicely and in a timely manner. Tons of potential, just need to add another page on the food menu. Maybe those signature tacos from down the road. Big and nice place but menu selection is small. But I'll be checking the menu often to see if they have anything new. I'll try this again in the summer. Thanks for being part of the neighborhood . PS. Was excited to try out their rooftop. Selection on the rooftop was terrible for their drinks and food. Beware that they have different prices for the rooftop then they do on the main floor. I suggest getting your drinks from the main bar on the first floor and taking them upstairs with you. I've never heard of charging more on the roof. Pitcher of margaritas on the first floor is $40, on the roof top they charge $65. Miller lite on the first floor is $4 and on the roof too it's $8. LOL Who does this ?!?! read more

I was at Tata's during its opening. There were about 8 of us in a small party. We were seated on the second floor in a private room. The group pretty much ordered almost everything on the menu to taste amongst ourselves. When the food came to our table, we could smell the aroma wafting through the air. The presentation of each dish looked amazing. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. There were so many flavors to savor and enjoy. We had great service as was even greeted by the owners of the establishment. Overall, it was a great experience and we plan on going back soon! read more

As for the rooftop very nice and comfortable seating. Drink selection very poor, cocktails seemed to be premixed out of a carton. They were out of at least 5 of the beers on the menu. You would expect for a Friday evening and 85 degrees they would be prepared with more beer options. Only served appetizers and they were just ok. We were really looking forward to having a nice place in the neighborhood to walk to.
